Michael, with Obama raising over $1 billion in campaign donations and Mitt Romney as well, I absolutely 100% agree with you that something needs to be done about this. This should be backed by both parties to level the playing more George Soros and no more Koch Brothers....poof....gone....and then we will have an honest, decent, fair race between two people who are running for office simply because they are good and decent people.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is what we must do in a sincere and very serious bipartisan effort to bring the election process back to the people....people like us who care about our country. We need to shut the money machines down and let them know that they have no place in our election process.

Dear Diane,

Humans are a rather cruel and fearful species - this makes them cruel, this blind rage arising from fear.
When a culture fails to promote real courage, the courage to live knowing of ultimate death, of the preciousness and beauty of ephemeral life, every participant is impoverished, starved beyond all other loss.

No amount of food or wealth can satisfy any human who suffers this failure, this chronic succumbing to what is meant only as a healthy momentary impulse to fight or flight. All other animals, when able to live as their particular way is shaped, live in an alert paradise when not actualy in danger, EXCEPT when held unnaturally captive and dependent, abused, by only one species - the one that desperately fails to see the abundance of life, together in an ever-changing moment.

Since social psychology shows clearly that self-described happy humans are actually happier, even when their blood shows high levels of stress hormones, we see a possibility of interpreting life differently than in a political, fear-of-loss fashion.

Please note that the WH has recently RAISED the threshold for petitions TO 100000! Although this petition has already reached-and passed-the formerly required 25000, the org. is still asking us to continue signing and preferably, hopefully reach 100000..
I just tried to post this and C2 led me to your post, Michael, instead of letting me submit my post.

Let me perhaps add this from my own post about this petition:
We have two great pieces of news to share with you this week.

First: Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA) has just introduced two bills to amend the U.S. Constitution to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision:

H.J.Res. 20 will enable us to get the big money out of politics, by restoring Congress’ and the states’ authority to limit campaign spending;

H.J.Res. 21 will make it clear that corporations don’t have constitutional rights, like free speech, as if they were people, because they aren’t.

Now is the moment to build support for these important bills. Can you please call your Representative, and urge her or him to co-sponsor them both?
If you have time, please also call your Senators and urge them to support similar bills in the Senate.

The introduction of these bills is really a big step forward for our movement

Second: We hit a big milestone last week: our White House petition urging President Obama to include a call for a constitutional amendment in his upcoming State of the Union address (scheduled for Feb. 12th) reached the threshold of 25,000 signatures required for an official response from the White House. We couldn’t have done this without your help, and the support of our friends at Avaaz, People For The American Way, and Demos.

But we’re not stopping there. Yesterday, Common Cause engaged its full national membership to support this White House petition, which will add an additional boost, and we're working on getting other groups on board too.

The White House raised the bar for an official response from 25,000 to 100,000 just after we launched our petition. Even though we’re “grandfathered” -- the lower threshold still applies to our petition, since we launched it before they made this change -- we’re still aiming for more signatures. It would be really cool if we could clear the 100,000 mark.

So ask your friends to sign on if they haven’t already!:

As you can see, our campaign has tremendous momentum now. Thanks for all you’re doing to help.

I signed early last month, but when I returned to the site, I noticed that the signature goal had not only been met, but had been surpassed by approximately 14,000 votes! Kudos to: Michael, for posting this; Nancy, for forwarding it; and to all concerned citizens who lent their signatures to it!
