Just how similar to the Father of our National Parks are you?

The Path of Earth Service

The 10 Commandments of Mother Earth

I have met Muir's grand, or great grand, son, John Muir III. He founded an organization in Brooklyn, called the Prospect Park Environmental Council. It was on my first birding tour of anywhere, in this case Prospect park, sponsored by PPEC, that I met him, in 1982.
I've been birding ever since.
John Muir said "The more I look around, the more I see that everything is hitched to everything else," one of my favorite quotes. We are all one. We are all "congealed energy," Einstein said.
We are the UNIVERSE looking back at itself.

How Muir are you..... one of the qualities is 'have a beard' - well, that's 50% of the population out for that one! Mind you it is an interesting article nonetheless and thought provoking. Trying to send Mitchell D a star.

Can't say I'm anything at all like him, but I thoroughly enjoyed the article--thanks Nancy.

Hello,

John left a comment on the following article:

Who Speaks for the Trees?

The Silent Witness
By John B. Lowe

Rooted to Mother Earth
Connecting ground to sky
In a cycle of rebirth
Where all must live and die
Stands the Silent Witness

Growing straight and tall
Against wind and rain
Surviving manís fickle law
And the loggers chain
Stands the Silent Witness

Season after season
Towering high above
Reaching for the sun
Home to the nesting dove
Stands the Silent Witness

A millennium old
With a thousand rings
Stretching proud and bold
Its many branches sing
Stands the Silent Witness

Like a steepleís spire
Over earthen pews
Its majesty inspires
The poetís muse
Stands the Silent Witness

Fulfilling its mission
Of natureís midwife
From Godís perfect vision
Home to all wildlife
Stands the Silent Witness

Observer of history
Of manís flawed course
There is the mystery
Without remorse
For the Silent Witness

Who among us will speak
In the treeís defense
Who among us will seek
Justice to dispense
For the Silent Witness

It is time to awake
To stand and be heard
Before it is too late
To utter the fateful words
To save the Silent Witness

Whatever befalls the trees
Will befall us all
So interconnected are we
To the natural law
Of the Silent Witness

Wherever you go there once were forests.
Plant & protect Danny's trees for life.
Trees are the lungs of the earth.

I guess I'm only like Muir in core values. He must have led a well healed life to be able to do all the things he accomplished without working. There are many environmental heros out there who balanced the real world with their accomplishments for the good of us all.

Noted and Shared on 'Ballater' on Facebook! Looking forward to results of the Quiz coming in from friends and neighbours here in the Scottish Highlands - several named Muir as well! :)
