Domestic violence and abuse are inexcusable. And so was the House of Representatives' failure to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act last year.

This is from the Age of Women - a message for men and women:
"Slowly, over the past century in particular, women have been arising, representing the ascendancy of women in many cultures—not all cultures but many cultures. This is a natural evolution, as we have said. It must happen. And the human race will be far better for it. To hold women back and assign them domestic duties alone is a great mistake. It will deny the human family far greater resources that would be available otherwise.

The confusion about male and female roles, the masculine and the feminine, has led to a great retardation in human development and great abuse of people throughout the ages in many cultures. To limit women to child raising and domestic duties and minimal employment opportunities is a great mistake, and wherever that exists in any culture, that culture will suffer as a result. Until recently, in most societies in the world, women were considered to be simply the possession of men—a valuable possession, but a possession, something you could buy or sell or trade or destroy—and that is one of the reasons that human civilization has progressed so very slowly.

Why has it taken humanity so long to really make advancements? It is not simply energy and technology, the limits there, that have held you back. It is the restraint upon the roles of men and women. It is the weight of history and tradition. It is the expectations of children. So for a woman who is destined to become a provider within religion and spirituality, how will her talents ever be recognized in a culture that does not allow her to assume any roles within this context? And will she not suffer as a result of being unable to meet her culture’s expectations and demands?

Thanks Nancy, signed and noted. I thought Mary's comment was so apt.
I always TRY to see things from another's point of view and I do reaslise that men are often a little scared of letting go of control and stick rigidly to their old ideas of being the dominant animal, which makes them put the I tneed to change the laws governing women, way back onto the back burner! Another factor why many polticians are so painfully SLOW at changeing laws to protect women is that I honestly don't think that they have the ability to actually THINK about subjects that are not to do with their own positions of power and things that are very important to THEM, like fame and money and keeping their position in the government. Their brains are just simply on auto pilot! Women being abused is just a little minor unimportant side issue to them! Women can be seen by men as a threat to their dominance as women always prove themselves to be so very capable whenever they get access into the male's territory! That is why we HAVE to push and make ourselves heard and don't give up until we ARE protected by the law and until we have equal rights. I only wish that men realised we want to walk equally beside them and not DOMINATE them!

Don't pass it just to pass it. Settle the differences to everyone's approval first. It isn't the overall bill that's the problem, it's certain parts that need to be negotiated. Best to do it right, even if that means it fails a few times.

More women have to be voted to serve in government as our male politicians think that women are here to be subservient to them and their opinions and rulings.

@jo M --- There is NO negotiating on this. ALL women, regardless of emotional orientation, ethnicity, race, marital status etc deserve . . . no, MUST be included. That is not negotiable!

For those who dion't know, this also protects men from being treated violently by overbearing women. It's just that we men tend to be the agressor most of the time.
