Reebok: Drop Rick Ross ACTION

Business  (tags: corporate, money, consumers, Rick Ross, Reebok, rap music )

By holding Rick Ross up as something to aspire to, Reebok is sending the message that raping a woman is cool--and that's a dangerous message to send the boys and young men that Reebok markets to. This is what rape culture is.

Thanks Nancy I wrote to them when I got the email about this petition, and asked that they broaden the scope of their excellent petitions to allow people who are not US citizens to sign as well.

After all, this issue affects all of us, not just those in the US.

I'd threaten to boycott this ***hole, but given that I hate rap passionately and adamantly refuse to buy it anyway, a "threat" like that would be a lie. I don't wear Reeboks, either. But I CAN--and have--signed this petition.

What a pig! (Oops, no insult to pigs intended.) How is it that we are still having a discussion about rape?

Rape is rape, no is no and I don't care what she is wearing, what she is drinking, no consent means rape.

Thank you for telling Reebok to drop Rick Ross! - and tweeted

I am appalled that you would want someone like this to represent your company. Where and what are your values? You are sending a very bad message to impressionable kids and those who purchase your products. Rape is never cool or ok!

Signed and noted. You know, I honestly don't think that companies like Reebok would even THINK of the wrong they are doing by giving out this horrible message! I am so glad that we have a chance to enlighten them that they HAVE to do something about it!! Maybe it is hard for a man to realise that rape is one of the most digusting things that you could do to a woman.. It is a violation of you whole self! As most young men seem to be fed a diet of disgustingly warped sexual messages on the media, I don't think they have ANY idea of what it is doing to women. They don't know what to is like to be DOMINATED against your will, as with their different phsycial make-up it is hard for THEM to be raped and to knowwhat it is like to be totally under the dominance of someone that is disgusting you and taking away the only thing that is YOURS! I The meidi and large companies like this that are so 'in the face' of young men at an impreshionable age, should be made to realise the infulence they can have over young men and that it is their responsibilty to promote a good image of masculinity as they have the potenital to effect young people's thinking and how they should act to be A MAN!!! Men should be like the best or our Care 2 men!!!! They are REAL Men!!!

How anyone can hold this vitriolic misogynist up as a role model is beyond me. Then of course there's Kanye West. This is the problem that has plagued us as people for many generations. We teach and practice that the pursuit of wealth and material things are the epitome of success; often at the point of some form of violence. For most of us we aren't that far removed from our distant cousins the chimps and bonobos. I would surmise based on modern behavior that we aren't evolving but devolving and I include religious violence also.
In the atomic/sub-atomic world that forms the basis of our existence 80% of who and what we are is empty space. It's just that the molecules in this dimension are so tightly packed into a crystal lattice paradigm that they have little room for movement and thereby form a solid appearance. The truth is that it is an illusion that in many ways are sustained by our collective thoughts. When the resonance deteriorates over time entropic decay sets in; death follows and releases us into a reality that is far different from what we believed. All our possessions are collected; used and enjoyed by someone else and yes there is such a thing as bill for your actions in life.

Green star to Nicky Melville, with one minor point of disagreement--the statement, "As most young men seem to be fed a diet of disgustingly warped sexual messages on the media . . . " This message is not only for men, it's aimed at women as well. Turn on the TV, and what do you get on your screen? Scantily clad women with the camera focused squarely on their cleavage--or their barely-covered butts--and couples practically having sex on camera. And we’re not talking about the movies—these are the commercials! Even beyond the body wash and underwear ads, it’s fast food and tires—because “sex sells”!

And speaking of underwear--Victoria’s Secret is launching a line of underwear and bras aimed at middle school aged children. The line will be called “Bright Young Things” and will feature ” lace black cheeksters with the word “Wild” emblazoned on them, green and white polka-dot hipsters screen printed with “Feeling Lucky?” and a lace trim thong with the words, “Call me” on the front.” So, yes, let’s teach teens and pre-teens that to look good and feel good about yourself, you have to sell yourself as a sex object.

I found out about this last one when my sister posted this link on her Facebook page: http://evandolive.com/2013/03/22/a-letter-to-victorias-secret-from-a-father/

Rape is not primarily caused by the sex drive but by anger and hate. This has been proven to be true.

It's a hate crime against women.

It's a sex crime against self also.

And it's a CAPITAL CRIME near murder. How many ladies have been either killed by their
rapist or by consequential suicide!!!

As a man - I apologize for being a member of a sex that would so disrespect the "fairer: (pun intended) sex! To think that this is a man who is a mentor and role model for so many young men - is a perversity - that Reebok would utilize his vitriol to sell there goods is a shame for that company (fortunately I don't buy their line) - but if I thought to - forget it!
Thanks Nancy - of course I signed
