The GMA could decide to fight labeling efforts like Washington State's 522 ballot initiative, which will be voted on this November. Or these top food companies could decide to listen to the majority of the public, the majority of their customers, which...

Important decisions are being made this month about your right to know what you eat and feed your family by the Grocery Manufacturers Association, a trade group representing big food companies from Kraft to General Mills to Nestle.

They are meeting to talk about genetically engineered foods and what their position will be on them.

They need to know that we, as consumers, want transparency so we can have the freedom to make our own decisions about what we buy at the store.

Friends of the Earth is working with the Yes on 522 Campaign in Washington State to pressure the GMA to support labeling of genetically engineered food.

Will you join us by taking action today?

We already have a right to know other important information about the food we eat and feed our families: we know about sugar and sodium levels; whether flavors are natural or artificial; whether our salmon is wild or farm-raised.

We should also know if our food is genetically engineered or not.

The GMA could decide to fight labeling efforts like Washington Stateís 522 ballot initiative, which will be voted on this November. Or these top food companies could decide to listen to the majority of the public, the majority of their customers, which polls show want labeling of genetically engineered foods.

Signing this petition will tell them you want to be able to choose whether or not you buy genetically engineered foods. Click now and ask them to adopt a national labeling standard of genetically engineered food.

For years, Friends of the Earth has fought for your right to know what youíre feeding your family, and you deserve to know if the food you buy is genetically engineered. Itís as simple as that.

We think we have a good chance of this passing. The biggest obstacle is that it's an off year election, fewer people vote then. We had an overwhelming number of folks sign the petition to get it to the legislature.
I wish the best of luck to other states!
