Biodiesel palm oil plantations are LEADING TO THE EXTERMINATION OF WILD ELEPHANTS in Asia. Now that big sections of rain forest have been cleared, elephants wind up foraging in the plantations and are shot illegally.

Judy, I agree. We know rain forests are being destroyed to grow corn for fuel.

What can we do? We can supply 84% of the energy for America's vehicles just by electric - if Americans drove electric vehicles, we could charge 84% of them at night when there is low power consumption...without building any power plants!

Only non-thinking people will and have jumped on the biofuel bandwagon. How can using edible food for fuel while millions of poor people starve to death be a good idea? Who thought up this idiocy anyway? I don't think electric is the way to go either. Burning natural gas in order to make electricity is also dumb. Our governments need to come up with entirely new ideas for transportation. There are TOO MANY vehicles on the roads! More goods need to be transported by trains. Barges need to be made use of for moving goods along rivers and then by semi trucks for a shorter distance. People should be charged tax or insurance on the weight of their vehicles. The heavier the vehicle, the more fuel it uses. Down with America's obsession with trucks and SUVs! People could have tax breaks if they live close to where they work, for how few kilometers they drive a year, or for not owning a vehicle. In European countries, you can get almost anywhere by train. Yes, they pollute, but not anywhere the amount that all those people in their own cars would. There are lots of ideas out there, people with open minds just need to sit down together and hash out an intelligent and workable plan.
