Petition - Angela Merkel: Artenvielfalt Erforschen, Artensterben Stoppen! ~ Research Biodiversity, Stop Species Extinction!

Animals  (tags: research, biodiversity wildlife, insects, Endangered Species, extinction crisis, prevention from dying out, Environmental destruction, Wildlife conservation, Habitat preservation, stronger protection laws )

- 214 days ago - change.org

Research biodiversity, stop species extinction!

Whale life, insect killing, bird dying: wild animals, big and small, are becoming rarer and eventually die out.

Everywhere the biodiversity is massively threatened, one speaks already of the 6th mass extinction event of the earth history. WE destroy habitats such as species-rich rainforests and coral reefs. WE operate industrial and reckless agriculture, forestry and fishing industries and WE pollute and pollute the environment (pesticides, plastic in the sea, etc.). In addition, there are climate change, ocean acidification and many more, rapidly increasing global threats. The loss of species is the worst crossed and unfortunately also the only irreversible 'planetary border'. When extinction applies: 'Futsch is gone', with incalculable consequences for all of us.

We therefore demand: Stop species extinction! Protective measures for animals, habitats, environment and climate must finally get the necessary priority!

How many and which species are there on Earth? We do not even know it: is there a total of 3 or 10 or 100 million species? And how many of them are just dying? It is estimated that 20,000 to 50,000 species disappear each year. Every few minutes one, and rising! How many and which species will remain until the year 2050, how many until 2100? Will our biologically impoverished soils, forests and seas still work? Supply us enough food, medicines, rest, clean water and oxygen? And what exactly do we lose with the dwindling genetic and ecological-functional diversity? NOBODY knows it even close!

We therefore demand: explore biodiversity while it still exists!

We urgently need data, what types are there and what they do there. As long as they still exist. Because it is clear: You only protect what you value, and you only appreciate what you know. So species need an identity! They, like us humans, need names, faces and stories to be perceived in their existence and accepted in their right to exist! We humans must become aware of the abundance of species, of life, of services in nature we are responsible for.

Our goal is therefore the global capture of animal species, as a basis for effective protection and effective control of conservation efforts.

We need a lot more basic taxonomic research and call for 100 additional permanent positions for taxonomists at German museums and universities as the first immediate measure!

We also start our petition worldwide, in English and Spanish, and address our appeal for an international, cooperative and efficient species inventory to the United Nations General Assembly.

Thank you for your support!Whale life, insect killing, bird dying: wild animals, big and small, are becoming rarer and eventually die out.
