Independence Day marked temporary liberation for some scared pets that wound up in captivity. The Larimer Humane Society took in 19 animals on the Fourth of July. On Thursday, 16 people showed up to reclaim pets, an unusually high number, said Cary Rentol

Thank you Casey for this post. I wish everyone would put their pets in a safe place if there are going to be fireworks close by or try and condition them to not be so afraid of loud noises. It is sad that more people do not realise just how terrifying the tremendously loud noises of humans are to animals who have nothing to comparethis to in a natural environment.Nature, where loud noises are usually natural disasters and something to fear very much.PLEASE consider your pets.Thank you.

The two worst days of the year for pets are July 4th & Halloween. During the 80's, I always had anywhere from 4 to 7 cats at a time. They weren't allowed in the house (it wasn't my home), so they lived in the garage which had been converted into a den. During that decade I lost 2 cats on 2 July 4ths & two cats on 2 Halloweens. Ever since then, my cats have ALWAYS been indoors. I've got one cat now, Bibbs, and she's solid black. On Halloween, I don't even let her get CLOSE to a door! People really should consider their pets as children, and take the same precautionary measures as they would for a child. On July 4th and Halloween, protect your pets and see that they are safe! Save their lives and yourself alot of heartache. Great post, Casey! Thank you!
