In this article for the New Statesman, John Pilger shows how the modern mainstream media acts like an Orwellian "Ministry of Truth", indoctrinating us by manipulating the truth with language, and by consigning embarassing truths down the "Memory Hole".

A free press is supposed to be one of the cornerstones of democracy, a watchdog alerting the public to abuses of power by the government. Some watchdog. They've become the government's lapdog instead.

"The press is so powerful in its image-making role, it can make a criminal look like he's the victim and make the victim look like he's the criminal. This is the press, an irresponsible press." . . . . "If you aren't careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." "At the Audubon, December 13, 1964." In Malcolm X Speaks: Selected Speeches and Statements, ed. George Breitman, 96-114. New York: Ballantine Books, 1964, 101

He who owns the press rules the world.
So I forget, is it Rupert "partisan" Murdoch who owns and rules over the Canadian Broadcasting Ministry of Propaganda Corporation, now?
Or is it still Sir Conrad I-didn't-do-any-of-it Black?
Tax serfs like us tend to lose track of the olygarchy and the changing of the guard, not to mention the who's who of media moguls, ..............as the boundaries of sovereign nations/countries dissolve in the relentless face of the oncoming train called the SPP (Bush/Harper/Calderone sel the deal on August 19th, at Montebello, Quebec).

I give thanks to a sociology professor I had in college that opened my mind to the class war in this country and the propaganda that fuels it .

The irony is that it is a two~way street.

Shifting emphasis, using loaded words, and manipulating the image produced.

Noone ever pretended that the image that I used above was "the truth". However, the corporate media DOES claim to give us "the truth", "fair and balanced journalism" and so on.

In the above article, John Pilger exposes the deceptions in the corporate media. You an check the facts for yourself.

Indeed, Noam Chomsky exposes the deceptions in the corporate media in most of his writings. And he gives plenty of evidence for it - citing references from many respectable sources, such as UN sources, Amnesty International, and so on - and citing references from corporate media itself, to show how the headlines and main line of newspapers often contradict other facts given in the mainstream media.

If you want to check the facts for yourself, you can. I have often seen how corporate news about political actions that I have been involved in, and other facts that I have checked (e.g. immigration policies and Green Party policies, as well as what is mainstream Islam) has been rightwing lies and deception.
