Horsemeat in the food chain could have been passed off as beef for three years, the country's food safety watchdog has said. He admitted he had "lost some sleep" after one burger was found to contain 29% horsemeat.

actually, the er excitement --and of many a meat-eater, too-- about some (esp. someone else's elsewhere) meat-eating-habits or this or that special kind of meat seems kind of er "funny" and pathetic, to me, for one.

And that capitalFascistic industrial production excels only in production of abominations (and of course finds larger opportunities to do so with meat than with plants) isn't the newest news either.

I'm glad that I don't eat meat. These stories are becoming very common.

In Belgium horsemeat is consumed like beef, it is served in hospitals, too. It is said to be healthy.

I do not understand why horse meat is considered any worse than consuming any other animal including cow, pig, chicken, dog, cat, fish, etc.

124,000 land animals are killed each and every second for consumption. More of sea life. 20,000 chickens are killed for every one dog.

It is precisely because I could not eat my cat that I stopped eating chickens (and others).

Then there are all the other reasons to not consume animal products including health, environment, human abuse (in CAFOs, slaughterhouses, processing companies), politics, etc.

But does it really matter what is in the food if one doesn't even know? Seems it's time to get a little more involved in what goes on the plate so as to be sure what goes in the mouth.

What else are they slipping onto the fork?

Just need to add too, it is precisely because wild horse compete for the government rangeland for beef that wild horses are rounded up (and most of them sent to slaughter).

And then the predators such as wolves and cougars are taken out too.
