Interesting, I too had always believed they were the product of Supernovae.

'Cosmic ray' high energy space radiation probably comes from multiple sources. I hope they can be analysed to find out what those sources are.

As far as extended manned missions, we need to develop Skyrails so we can cut the expenses of putting the materials needed to shield our spacecraft in orbit.
