Getting something for nothing? Yes, the rich are. Tax expenditures, which are deductions and exemptions that primarily benefit the highest-earning individuals, cost about 8% of the GDP, the same percentage that goes to Social Security and Medicare.

This is a good article with a very bad title. Capitalism in not the problem. Greed and corruption is the problem. Owning stock with a company or being a CEO is fine. Using lobbyists to let a company mess up the earth and wildlife or rip off poor people off is not good. Balance and common sense should be the norm.

Gloria, corporations are in fact legally bound to provide "profit maximization" at any cost to the shareholders, any one of which can sue them if they do anything that jeopardizes maximum return for those holding the stocks.

So that means all the other factors come into play including lobbyists, ripping off poor people (and far more including child slavery in Chocolate, that Nestle is a piece of work...) and so much more.

There is no such thing as "balance & common sense" when it comes to the corporate model.

When the US was formed it was part of the basis that corporations had to be desolved on a regular basis and in fact often as soon as they had completed a task (for instance, building a bridge) because the Founding Fathers knew they are dangerous.

Here is some further reading for you to get a better understanding:

This is part of what is called "Neo-Liberalism" and it's infecting the world being just part of the problems in the US and the European Crisis.

And it is Capitalism that drives the greed.

Getting something for nothing? Yes, the rich are.

But to hear them boo hoo and whine you'd not know that. They are quick to point the finger at Granny living high on the hog with her meager Social Security check and poor children getting a bit of Food Stamps due to no fault of their own.

In the article it read:

Too many Americans are unaware of the extreme disparities that have been caused by the unregulated profit incentive of capitalism. Our winner-take-all system is flailing away at once-healthy parts of society, leaving them like withered limbs on a trembling body, even as the relative few who benefit promote the illusion of opportunity and prosperity for all.

My reply:

We can thank the likes of Paul Buchheit and the many other investigative journalist, the "thinkers" the ones who are intelligent AND compassionate, and the Judy's in the world that find these offerings to wake up the Americans and others around the world.

And yes, I hope they get good and mad soon for we certainly need change and not the Obama change which hasn't been any change at all. Most in Washington are nothing more than Corporate Puppets and his pockets were lined with a lot of money for his campaign too. Those who pull the strings make sure BOTH sides of the bread is buttered for them.

Capitalism isn't the problem, socialism intrusion is.

The facts in this article absolutely infuriate me. I believe that ultimately, only a violent uprising can change things. We are disenfranchised and bled dry by our government, which is run by corporate and private interests. The more we vote, the more we are ignored. When will it end?!!!

Thanks for posting, Judy. The facts get under my skin, too. The 1% have not only gone too far, they are continuing to fund "think tanks" around the country to figure out how to steal even more from those who can least afford to lose it. Citizens United only served the wealthiest to dump cash on organizations like the Heritage Foundation, State Policy Network, ALEC, Americans For Prosperity, the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, Donors Trust....and numerous others. This has now become a David v. Goliath scenario.
Another excellent article is in The Nation: "The Right Leans In" by Lee Fang, Apr. 15, 2013.

Get a grip on yourself, USA. DEMOCRACY is not an American invention, but was embraced to the fullest. The rich get richer and virtually pay no taxes. They pay to control the government; the middle class and the poor pay the taxes, but they also pay with their lives in any conflicts the rich choose to enter the US (or any other nation) into conflicts to fill their huge pockets.
Now, does this sound like democracy. This is CORPORATE DEMOCRACY, I do agree, an American invention ! They are just as misguided as Communists, Fascists and Dictatorships. All forms of governments have one thing in common, they fleece the people!

A reminder what democracy was supposed to be:

Government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.

Do I see a government on our planet that listens to THE PEOPLE? NO, they listen to their masters to feed their hip pockets! Wealth is only for a CHOSEN few, we all pay for those worms.
