Good luck to J. Assange. More power to the ordinary people whose voices are trampled on by Govts and multinationals.

Thanks for sharing this... it's amazing how much the powers-that-be will go to any lengths to stop and suppress Assange and his Wikileaks organization, including fabricated charges... and also a sad indictment of how a little disinformation, circulated into the public arena can be distorted by way of press//media, provoking a sleeping public into believing any old thing.

Good. Hope they/he wins. Let the UK squirm on holding an Elected Official of Australia hostage on their land.

Thanks for sharing this Judy. That was a refreshingly more detailed article than I am used to finding.

As a professional librarian in my day job, I support open access to information--and Mr. Assange is doing exactly the same thing! So to him I would say two things: 1) Bravo, and 2) Be careful!

Thanks for all your comments. I do hope Assange wins, too! He is very courageous, in the face of powerful and ruthless enemies.

I don't how that could happen. He is wanted by a country for investigations regarding a crime he allegedly committed. Until he faces these charges and is found not guilty I don't believe he can become an elected member of parliament.
While he may have supporters in the younger citizens, many of them aren't registering to vote even though it is compulsory in Australia. I'll put it there now, I don't think he stands a chance.
He is certainly not held up as a freedom fighter here in Australia. In fact many people think he is not worthy of the attention he gets.

Didn't even know there was a Wikileaks party - and I'm in Oz! But I never vote for one issue parties,

Thanks for the info, Judy. I've long been in admiration of Assange and WikiLeaks and hope he's successful in winning. He'd definitely get my vote if I lived there.
