Erin Brockovich Leads Campaign Against 'Unsafe' Popular Birth Control

Health & Wellness  (tags: Essure, birth control device, Erin Brokovich campaign, cheaper than tubal ligation, fallopian tube implants, bendable metal coils, complications, severe medical problems, extreme pain, hysterectomy, Bayer )

Essure is a form of permanent birth control that is marketed as a cheaper, easier alternative to having your tubes tied. Many say the device has caused them severe medical problems."The pain...felt like cramps in child delivery for days and days..."

I hadn't even heard of this device. I think Brokovitch will help get this information out, and hopefully get this thing off the market. Thanks, Rose and Carol.

I had tubal ligation with hemp clips and I am having a lot of issues.I know there is problems with it from research, but hard to get drs to listen and believe it is the tubal ligation. They always say it does nothing to the best and nothing changes.Well I beg to differ.Anyone out there have issues with this? And is there a way to get this researched further.Maybe even stop drs.doing this procedure on woman.Unless it is medically necessary a woman can not have children or if there is other reasons. Please someone help.

After my two children were born, I had a vasectomy. No problems. Maybe, more men should be the one to have the birth control.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

Melissa, I've never heard of the problem you have, but I hope you get help with it. It makes me furious when some doctors don't respect that we know our bodies. A good doctor will listen. Just because they haven't heard of a problem before, doesn't mean it doesn't exist! I believe the body and mind are one thing. It isn't possible for pain to be "only" in a person's head.

I really appreciate the links, Dandelion. I signed the petitions, and Tweeted them.

Hartson, thank you, and I only wish there were more men like you!!!

I had an IUD put in back in the 70's. Well, let's just put it this way, it went terribly wrong and I came within 24 hours of dying.
Good for Erin Brockovich for going after this company. One woman having major problems is one too many.

Kudos to your husband, Joanne.

Sorry to hear of you ordeal, Ann. I'm glad you survived it. My sister was almost killed back in the 70's by the notorious Dalkon Shield, when it perforated her uterus.

Thank you Judy for posting this. I have a feeling there are far more people who have not heard of this than those who have. This is serious information that needs to be shared widely. Erin Brockovich is a trailblazer for women and I for one, am hopeful that there will be a positive outcome from this with her at the helm. Thanks Ms. Dandelion for forwarding and for the hotlinks. All signed, twittered, fb and google shared.

Before I quit smoking my dr took me off the pill..he suggested mirena..that weird looking thingy. I said Um HELL NO!! My luck it would poke thru my uterus or whatever.
This newest idea is also scary and ridiculous
besides why trust bayer and their 'studies'..they contributed to the holocaust and as usual only care about $

Melissa, PLEASE see another dr!! or go over your drs head and see a specialist if possible!

Go Erin!!

I certainly can sympathize with the victims. I had a Dalkon Shield intrauterine device back in 1972 and never suffered so much pain and bleeding in my life! I actually became anemic. I was told that I would get used to it, but that didn't happen, so I had it removed after trying to live with it for several months. The makers of the Dalkon Shield eventually took the product off the market and declared bankruptcy after a class action lawsuit was filed by women who had been injured, became infertile, suffered miscarriages, or gave birth to deformed children.

Petitions signed and noted. Thanks, Sheryl!

I'm so sorry that so many women are made to suffer this way. Within the medical establishment it is also known but unspoken that they think women just "complain" to much or it's "all in their head." I do believe it takes by this thinking whether conscious or not, the onus off them....which allows these conditions to prevail generation upon generation.
