These places are ripe for abuse because the inhabitants can't advocate for themselves effectively

This is a frightening story. I think it must happen quite often. Because the economic conditions are causing more greed and more people are loving power. Will the power of love ever overcome this?????

One thing I have to say is do not get old in the United States. Drop dead when you young.

Thanks everyone. So many facilities are substandard, and worse in this country. As Betsy says, the power of love could overcome this. However, it seems so many people love money more than anything. As long as the system allows, even requires, that some people profit from the illness and inability of some people to care for themselves, this evil will go on.

Outrageous. My Mom is getting each day morphine in order to take care of her pain. The doctor ordered to change it to a skin patch and left for her holiday. Because my Mom got an allergic reaction, the care takers just stopped giving my Mom anything.
She ended up with terrible pain, and morphine withdrawals. The finally had mercy with her, and send her to the hospital. A 89 year old lady should not have to endure such an unnecessary plight only because of staff members who have never heard of morphine withdrawals. I am still steaming. :-(

Oh, Birgit. I'm so sorry to hear that your Mom went through that. So many helpless people are suffering because of inadequate care, and it's a disgrace. I would be furious too!

Frightening, being charged 4-,6,000/month for what? Abuse, neglect and greed of others. Such places need to be monitored constantly to ensure that a quality level of care is ensured and that abuse of seniors within its walls doesn't take place. Abandonment is abuse.
