Arkansas Gay Marriage Ban Struck Down

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: Arkansas Gay Marriage Ban Struck Down )

- 1506 days ago -
Arkansas gay marriage ban was struck down. The judge did not issue a stay. This means gay couples can IMMEDIATELY start getting married down there. The Governor is going to try to appeal. The South's gay marriage bans are falling like dominoes. ^_^

Far from over.

The judge did not issue a stay, meaning same-sex marriages could begin as soon as county clerks next open their doors. However, Arkansas Atty. Gen. Dustin McDaniel plans to ask for a stay and immediately appeal to the Arkansas Supreme Court, which has initial jurisdiction on all county circuit appeals.

If it isn't the Courts, it's the Legislatures. If it isn't the Courts and/or the Legislatures, it's the Voters themselves, turning "Liberal" on LGBT Rights which are Human Rights.
The stupid, "panicked" laws passed 10 YEARS AGO, the Constitutional Amendments, are indeed "falling like Dominoes". This in SPITE of all the admonitions of the Roman Catholic Church Hierarchy and various Fundamentalist Preachers. Their Congregations just DON'T SEEM TO BE LISTENING TO THE "TEACHINGS" of "Mother Church"!!!

There is NO opposition to Gay Marriage, that is NOT from Religions. There is NO scientific or sociological reason - it is ALL RELIGIOUS SUPERSTITION AND DOGMA, and nothing else! Even tho the formerly-powerful Sects and Cults DO get craven politicians to carry out their bidding...
It is delightful that Churches of all Denominations, Catholic and Protestant, are LOSING members because of this - especially among the Young People! Who woulda thought, decades ago, that the Gay Issue would be MUCH STRONGER THAN THE CHURCHES and break them up! When the Churches have had their tyrannical hold over people's minds for so LONG...!

BMutiny, I find parts of your comment insulting. I'm same sex attracted and Catholic and our pope has voiced his support for the GLBTI community. As he said, "Who am I to judge"? He has also said he has no issues with gay priests. I don't like bigotry- especially when certain truths are omitted to suit personal agenda.

It just seems strange to me that it was not the Arkansas Supreme Court that made the decision, which is why it will probably be overturned.

"That landmark ruling has led to a spate of lawsuits in about a dozen states seeking to topple bans on same-sex marriage."

Further, he's right, the exclusion of a minority for no rational reason is a dangerous precedent and has proved to be so throughout recorded history. I have heard "rumblings" that the republican party is considering abandoning their opposition because they have recognized that this is an issue they are on the wrong side of and that it will not help in the 2014 nor 2016 elections. Apparently that message hasn't "trickled down" to the state party's yet. Which, despite the obvious issues, is not necessarily a bad thing because it will just make them easier to beat in the next two elections - which I view as among the most important in our history for a number of reasons. My greatest hope is that Ted Cruz is the 2016 nominee though if most of the 2010 governors fail to win another term, the republican party might just wake to the fact that this IS the 21st century and I don't want to see that happen, just yet. There are issues that must be addressed in the next few years that will not be if the republican party keeps the House, they'll not take the Senate, but we need the House and the Presidency to prevent or mitigate the coming cataclysm of climate change.

So, they need to keep doing what they are doing, blind to public opinion. Or that's my plan anyway. And, my plan won't delay rights being granted minorities nor issues like this one because the courts are aware and on board, for the most part. That's a good thing. So is the republican party staying the course on their regressionist policies.

Noted ! I Agree 100% with this Judge ! Discrimination Needs to END !! I Hope and Pray that one day We as a Country will be able to Accept EVERY One as EQUAL ,as We are All HUMANS ! I don't care who You are or how You live Your life,it's how You Treat others that matters to me ! Who You LOVE and want to be with shouldn't be a issue ! Everyone just needs to Focus on their Own Families and Stop worrying what others do !! We as Humans and Americans should be able to have the Freedom to Love and Live how we want without anyone Judgeing US ! All I know is if someone is Happy with their Life ,then leave them alone ! Live and Let Live !!

The only time it's appropriate to complain about gay marriage is when the state forces you into one. Otherwise it's not your place to involve yourself, whether for religious ot personal reasons.

Good news in Arkansas! But as Jim says, it is far from over. May equal rights for all prevail.

Having said that, there is an article in Huffington Post about a man who wants to marry his laptop. He is trying to prove a point that allowing gay marriage opens up all sorts of things. Man Tried To Marry His MacBook In Apparent Effort To Discredit Same-Sex Marriage Proponents I think this guy is a nut case. He fails to understand, among other things, that marriage in the US is a consensual act. I wonder when his laptop said "I do!."?

Natalie T: If you are same-sex attracted and Catholic, perhaps you know of the organization Dignity, which is an organization of Gay Catholics. It has existed for many years.
It is not Pope Francis that is the issue here.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the USCCB, is one of the most reactionary organizations on the Planet - and it does NOT reflect even the views of the majority of U.S. Catholics! U.S. Catholics support Gay Marriage even to a degree MORE, than the U.S. population at large. [Both are clear majorities now.]
The USCCB is DEFINITELY behind the financing of ANTI-GAY-MARRIAGE LEGISLATION. Sorry, but that is a KNOWN FACT. Yes, this does NOT reflect what the majority of Catholics want.
The Catholic Church is "not a democracy", and the top hierarchy DO WHAT THEY WANT, regardless of people's wishes!
It is NOT THE POPE who sets these policies - and I never said it was! The Pope's job seems to be, to try and keep both the more Liberal, and the more Reactionary, wings of the Catholic Church happy - a thankless, and probably impossible job. He is hampered by PRECEDENT, which includes the Dogma of the "Infallibility of the Pope" when speaking on "Faith and Morals" - and that includes ALL PREVIOUS POPES.

It is FACT, that the USCCB, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, works TIRELESSLY to promote Medieval Catholic Dogma, about both Women and LGBT people, in the POLITICAL ARENA. Look it up if you don't believe me!!! See where the money behind these legislative efforts is coming from.... a lot of it is also from Protestant Evangelicals, too, of course. But a lot of this legislation has been PROPOSED by the USCCB and Catholic Lawyers they use....
Just giving the FACTS, sorry if they are offensive, this is not saying anything bad about Catholics themselves. But the Church Hierarchy..... They spend the money they get from parishioners ANY WAY THEY WANT TO, and the ones who give the money have NO SAY WHATSOEVER...
