"Scenes such as this are especially disturbing for Germany, given its own history of the Holocaust, and its more recent troubles with neo-Nazi organisations"
My mother always said "Given the right circumstances, history could repeat itself in Germany" Scary thought. Thanks for the article, Beatrice!

Thanks for posting this important article Beatrice. The same human scum who are doing this lose all legitimzcy in their outrage over the horrible events in Gaza and Israel. Extremists always occupy the moral low ground when the duplicate the acts and hatred they protest in the behavior of others.

#1 - Anti-Semitism does not mean anti-Jewish (Palestinians are also Semitic)
#2 - Being anti-Israeli state activity also is not being anti-Jewish

We must all protest those who do wrong, identifying the perpetrators and standing up for the victims. Think of apartheid South Africa, the Native American experience in the U.S., Australian Aboriginal suffering, anytime outsiders oppressed those who were peacefully living in a land.

It doesn't take much to bring them out of the woodwork.
I haven't noticed any anti-Syrian protests after 200000 deaths, many of them innocent civilians.

muslims are the ones that should be locked away from the rest of the world. lock them away and wipe any that escape off the earth and to their heaven. they hide behind women and children then fire rockets and expect to be allowed to get away with it. they can't even obey a cease fire so their own people can get food and water. yet it's the jews that take the heat. screw hamas wipe them out along with all the others.

anti-israel and anti-jewish behaviours slide all too comfortably into violence - which erupts from the minds of people all too ready to leap to false conclusions, and to expect jewish people to roll over and die.

Glad to see some rational voices drawing attention to the fact that political Zionism & Israeli government policies & strategies should not be considered interchangeable with Judaism and with Jewish ethnicity. Although those who would like to cleanse the lands between the Med and the Jordan River would rather that one considered Zionism, Israeli & Jewish as totally interchangeable terms - because this "justifies" their hate, their intolerance - and allows them to stir up fear & guilt.

The last thing they would want one to realise is - there are many Jews in these demonstrations, and these Jews clearly distinguish between the terms, reject extremism & intolerance in the guise of "defence" ....

For such people, honest Jews (Israeli or not) who have deep integrity, and dare to criticise both the government and the extremists, are traitors, are mis-guided ... merit punishment.

Sadly for those with the narrow vision, growing numbers of true Jews challenge their stance as betraying Judaism - and seek better understanding, mutual respect and an end to the lies that support hatred.

Very well said, Evelyn and others. There is no justification for violence against Jewish people because of what's happening in Gaza. That is a political situation, I think more about a grab for land and resources by the Israeli govt., than it is about religion. Yes, some ignorant people will use any excuse to embrace their hatred and feel justified in expressing it.
