From a theoretical viewpoint we expected the formation of stars to be accompanied by the formation of planets. It is good to see that the observations are confirming the basic theory. But the sort of planets we found are nothing like we expected!

We must expand our species to other star systems and set up colonies on other planets ifwe are to survive. Perhaps by the time we have the technology for interstellar flight (with or without warp drive or whatever) we will have learned how to be better planetary caretakers.

I don't believe the expansion of the human race to every other inhabitable planet is a good idea (look how well we treated the first planet) but its certainly exciting to think that another similar planet could be out there. It would be amazing to learn what kind of life developed on the planet, if its history is at all similar to ours, or if life evolved completely differently. It would be such a great scientific discovery!
