How can Coca-Cola, a company that heavily markets to and profits from Black people, fund a platform for a presidential nominee that is being bolstered into office by former Grand Wizard David Duke, the KKK, and other white supremacists?

Thanks for that updated info, Angie! (relevant paras quoted below)

Coca-Cola has declined to match the $660,000 it gave for the 2012 Republican convention, donating only $75,000 for this year and indicating that it does not plan to provide more.

Kent Landers, a Coca-Cola spokesman, declined to explain the reduction in support. But officials at the company are trying to quietly defuse a campaign organized by the civil rights advocacy group Color of Change, which says it has collected more than 100,000 signatures on a petition demanding that Coca-Cola and other companies decline to sponsor the convention. Donating to the event, the petition states, is akin to endorsing Mr. Trump’s “hateful and racist rhetoric.”

“These companies have a choice right now, a history-making choice,” said Rashad Robinson, the executive director of Color of Change. “Do they want riots brought to us by Coca-Cola?”

The situation is especially delicate for Coca-Cola, which is based in Atlanta and has devoted significant resources for decades to appeal to minority groups.

In the company’s Washington office, executives have been locked in conversations about how to handle the convention, according to two people directly involved in the discussions. In addition to donating cash, the beverage giant usually provides in-kind contributions, including sodas and other drinks.

In a statement, Mr. Landers, the Coca-Cola spokesman, said the company had also provided $75,000 to the 2016 Democratic convention, adding, “The Coca-Cola Company is a nonpartisan business and does not endorse presidential candidates or nominees, nor do we endorse any specific party.”

It looks as though our signatures aren't needed so urgently for Coke - they've already given $75,000 but it looks like they're not planning to add more .... And other companies also are cutting back support! (Will Trump need to put his hand in his pocket for the Convention expenses???)

Thanks, Wendy - I signed anyway!

Oh, PLEASE! Coca-Cola. Do SOMETHING responsible and stop this funding fiasco right now. The man has just publicly stated that he wants to punish women for having abortions - but NOT men! Pleeeease! Do yourselves a favour and put your money into something else - like funding alternatives to animal research. Now, THAT would be REALLY good! thank you for your time.

Donald Trump is merely a symptom of a far more insidious disease, the incivility, intolerance and ignorance of our society. I quote Isaac Asimov “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

What is ironic is that Trump is actually doing better than all of the candidates with all of the super-pacs behind them. This should tell us something about the weakness of all the other candidates except maybe for Bernie. I also think that all of the other candidates reflect what Abraham Lincoln foresaw except for Bernie!

“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.”

—U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864

Although I have not been able to sign because I'm not an American citizen, I allow myself to express an opinion on the support that I think it's disgusting, in fact the same opinion I have about the candidate itself. The world trembles with the possibility of this mediocre and fool presenter and just more a millionaire to become president of the United States. Please think carefully before giving their votes.

Stop sponsoring Donald Trump

How can Coca-Cola, a company that heavily markets to and profits from Black people, fund a platform for a presidential nominee that is being bolstered into office by former Grand Wizard David Duke, the KKK, and other white supremacists?

These companies are stuck pretending that their sponsorship won't provide a platform for Trump’s dehumanizing hate speech. But when corporate dollars are used to fund a platform for a demagogue who promotes a violently anti-Black message that company is just as culpable as the person shouting.

Will you call on Coca-Cola and other sponsoring companies to end their sponsorships of a Trump-led convention?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tell the CEOs, Chief Marketing Officers, and Senior Vice Presidents of Public Affairs at Coca-Cola, Google, Xerox, AT&T, Adobe Systems, and Cisco:
Immediately cancel your sponsorship of a Donald Trump-led Republican National Convention. This includes any monetary and in-kind contributions to the Host Committee for the Republican National Convention as well as any in-kind contributions to the Republican National Committee in exchange for promotional consideration. Any sponsorship of a Trump-led convention will be an endorsement of his hate-filled and racist rhetoric and runs counter to the values of your company.
Trump’s hateful rhetoric and racist pandering has been widely heralded by white supremacist leaders like former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke and has even resulted in the white nationalist American National Super PAC funding robo-calls in Iowa in support of his campaign. From this emboldening of white supremacists and Trump’s unchecked rhetoric he has made it clear that under his presidency Black people, Latinos, immigrants, women, and Muslims will be either second class citizens or entirely unwelcome in this country. As a company that prides itself on championing diversity, we believe it is a great sign of corporate responsibility and decency for your company to ensure its dollars and brand are not used to provide a platform for pushing this violent and racist rhetoric.
This is not about politics. It’s not about Democrats and Republicans, or the political left and right. Trump is encouraging violence towards Latinos and immigrants, Black people, women, and Muslims in an effort to pander to some voters’ most base instincts. Trump’s stereotypical and violent rhetoric brings real life consequences for people and as long as companies like yours keep financing platforms for Trump to push his race-baiting message, the number of violent attacks against minority groups and women will continue to grow.
As a major leader in the business community, a commitment on the part of your company to refrain from sponsoring a Donald Trump-led Republican National Convention would send a strong message to the public, the RNC, and other companies that Trump’s demagoguery and intolerance is not acceptable.
