NZ dairy giant Fonterra's industrial dairying approach is driving production beyond the limits. NZ cows can no longer be fed on grass alone and Fonterra's dairy herds are fed palm kernel grown on land in South East Asia where rainforests once stood

Sorry for the typo in "must".

Anyway, NZ dairy giant Fonterra's industrial dairying approach is driving production beyond the limits. NZ cows can no longer be fed on grass alone and Fonterra's dairy herds are fed palm kernel grown on land in South East Asia where rainforests once stood... Forests and peatland that are home to the critically endangered orangutan, support entire communities and are critical in the fight against climate change.

NZ imports up to 25 per cent of the world's trade in palm kernel feed.

There is no need for NZ dairy to be produced at the expense of tropical rainforests, the climate, endangered orangutans and New Zealand's clean green reputation.

Oh yes, there is a "good reason"! ....so consumers can have cheaper food, allowing them more $ to spend on "trinkets of the day" and thus impressing their friends!! Think about it - why do people buy Aunt Jemima or store brand pancake syrup when they could buy Pure Maple syrup (without the chemicals) ...........you most likely figured it out already - because it's cheaper.

Consumers get what they vote $ for - vote $ wisely!

Thank you for that. Until I found this site four months I knew nothing of palm oil production and the accompanying rainforest destruction.

People are being paid to murder orangutans as they are considered a "nuisance" to the palm oil industry! How sad is this? We will all be so very beyond sorry when we have murdered every living creature, because then the end of the human race will be at hand. And we will have noone to blame but our stupid, cruel, arrogant selves. Noted thanks.

I don't think we get that brand in England; I have never heard of it, but I posted it to FB anyway. Noted with thanks Jim.

Powerful video. Of course, the way the dairy industry is run there's a lot more than that in that glass of milk. Death and suffering abound in all aspects of that business. From the areas where the food is produced to the cow herself and all of her dead children. Milk SHOULD be life-giving, not life-taking!

Only in numbers can people protest against industrial farming - and by boycotting their products. For as long as people buy what is offered - they will not change - because they make money.
