It's painfully obvious that women's rights in Egypt have been eroded by the growing influence of the Muslim Brotherhood.
This brave woman is going to take them on and deserves our support. I wish her well.

Make no mistake girls- this ideology is all for the boys.

When you have a society shaped by an archaic sexually repressive ideology the officially sanctioned distortions manifest themselves in a multitude of different ways to say nothing of the ones not sanctioned. This is just one of the officially sanctioned ways Egypt provides entertainment for sexually repressed and inadequate males.

"the verdict stained the honour of egypt" ...? i fear that honour has a different meaning in egypt and in muslim countries where killing a female family member who has been raped is treated as an act of honour. not quite sure who is honoured, but there you have it.

What exactly does the virginity test prove, speaking of political rights?

The revered Islamic scholar, al-Ghazali, who has been called 'the greatest Muslim after Muhammad,' writes that the role of a Muslim woman is to "stay at home and get on with her sewing. She should not go out often, she must not be well-informed...she should take care of her husband... and seek to satisfy him in everything... Her sole worry should be her virtue... She should be clean and ready to satisfy her husband's sexual needs at any moment." Really. That's it.

Allah created women solely to serve and service men sexually - they are promised nothing here or in the hereafter. Even in Allah's Great Brothel in the Sky women are promised nothing but being brought up from Hell (where Mohammed says 99% of all women go) to be one of 72 perpetual virgins to serve and service Muslim (only) men for all eternity, along with beautiful young boys 'like pearls'. Of course to keep up this non-stop eternal shagging the men are promised perpetual erections.

What a spiritual uplift Islam is, isn't it? And Islam claims Islam treats women with respect, that's why they are shrouded and imprisoned in their homes - all out of respect and for their own good.

This terrible abuse mentioned in this article goes very well with an article Care2 actually put on its Daily Causes Newsletter, against all previous efforts by Care2 to never print anything that might reflect badly on Islam, which is just about everything:

I know those of us here who have studied Islam and read the Qur'an, hadith and/or sira could make a very long list of Islamic verses of hate, demeaning to women.

Between the year 2002 and 2003, The Association of Legal Aid for Women, (CWELA) began compiling and analyzing press coverage of 20 daily newspapers and weekly magazines that dealt with domestic violence in Egypt.

CEWLA’s report also showed that the perpetrators of violence were males in 75 percent of the cases and women represented 25 percent. The perpetrators were the husbands (52 percent), the fathers (10 percent), brothers (10 percent), the mothers (four percent) the rest were the sons, relatives of the husband or of the wife, the step father or the step mother. The types of violence were murder (76 percent), attempt to murder (5 percent), battering (18 percent), kidnapping 2.5 percent and the rest were different types such as burning property, forcing women to sign checks and become guarantors of men, accusation of insanity, etc.
The report indicated that causes of violence were honor crimes (42 percent), leaving the house without the husband’s approval (7.5 percent), wives asking for divorce (3 percent).(Manar Ammar - Two honor killings hit Egypt’s Alexandria - Bikya Masr, February 26, 2012)

More on the sexual abuse of girls in Islam in the Middle East:

'As girls in the Middle East are considered worth less than boys, it may be that their incestuous use during childhood is even more prevalent. One report found that four out of five Middle Eastern women recalled having been forced into fellatio between the ages of 3 and 6 by older brothers and other relatives.(↑ Allen Edwardes and R.E.L. Masters - Cradle of Erotica (p. 300) - Bantam Paperback; New Ed edition (1977), ISBN 0553103016 )

A female Arab physician who recently conducted an extensive study of childhood seduction reported that "most female children are exposed to … incidents of sexual assault" during their early years by "the brother, the cousin, the paternal uncle, the maternal uncle, the grandfather or even the father. If not a family member, he may be the guardian or porter of the house, the teacher, the neighbor's son, or any other man." (↑ Nawal El Saadawi - The Hidden Face of Eve: Women in the Arab World (p. 14) - Boston: Beacon Press, 1980)

The molestation, she says, begins with masturbation or fellatio and then proceeds to intercourse. "In most cases the girl surrenders and is afraid to complain to anyone, since, if there is any punishment to be meted out, it will always end up by being inflicted on her. It is she alone who loses her honor and virginity. The man never loses anything … " The incidents are termed "frequent, but remain hidden, stored up in the secret recesses of the female child's self, since she dare not tell anyone of what has happened to her … "(↑ Lloyd DeMause - The Universality Of Incest - The Journal of Psychohistory, Fall 1991, Vol. 19, No. 2)

"...It is she alone who loses her honor and virginity. The man never loses anything … " Then she is killed for dishonoring her perverted family.

This is all recorded in an extensive list of statistics in the Muslim world at this excellent site:

I can not claim to know what influences other than long standing cultural ideas, has caused this to continue. It is indeed an outrage. As American women will not even stand up for their own rights, I can not see them standing by their sisters in Egypt.

Just wondering, how does this virginity test cover oral, or it does not change the girl's status of a virgin?

Kit..."I can not claim to know what influences other than long standing cultural ideas, has caused this to continue."

++++++++++++ How about an Abrahamic religion which continues to insist women are second-class, ignorant and worth less then men? How about a religion which allows murder of women who "shame" men in their family? How about a religion which allows men to beat women and actually proscribes how it should be done?

Pam, this is actually exactly what destroys the fabric of a society and the tolerance: subduing female character to male, peace to militancy, common sense to fanaticism.

When adult male take proud in their emblem of camel and a gun (Hesbola) you know what to expect. A camel and a gun. Simple and effective. As for intelligence, claims about inventing algebra a bit more than thousand years ago do the job.

But all that is OK for the men as long as they beat up the physically weak girls into obedience, because that makes them bosses.

Egypt says it has stopped these attrocities against women - but I for one do not believe this is being done. They do not respect the rights of women enough to call for cessation of this sexual assault. These rapists enjoy their work too much.

"They said they had been forced by the Egyptian army, while in detention, to submit to a five-minute-long so-called virginity test by a male doctor.".

Now, a Muslim patient whose wife was giving birth in a Canadian hospital went into rage and beat up the male doctor who came to inspect his wife. Therefore, by Islamic law the doctor has to be accused in un-Islamic behavior and get some lashes.

The only virgins that these self-righteous, controlling, undisciplined Muslim men should ever encounter in the afterlife should be Nuns With Guns!

Glamour, 72 Nuns with Guns will take a good care of some Jihadi boy who hoped to get eternal Paradise by killing innocent people. The sterner and stricter Nuns are - the merrier.
