The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act (S. 541 and H.R. 1094) will prohibit the slaughter of horses for human consumption in the U.S. and ban their export abroad for that purpose.

Thanks so much for posting this, Ruth! It’s so important!!! Previously sent and posted, but from the comments here, it looks like I did not share/send to everyone(?), so will do so again.

Today we are awaiting the decision by the federal judge in NM whether or not she will lift the restraining order against meat plants in NM, MO and IA halting their plans to slaughter equines as well as cattle for their meat. We are praying this will not happen again here in the US and that the legislators in DC will pass the S.A.F.E Act.

Please everyone…keep the pressure on. Write, call, email your representatives and ask them to cosponsor this important piece of legislation so it can reach the House and Senate for a vote.

Here’s the process (via govtrack):
This bill was assigned to a congressional committee on March 12, 2013, which will consider it before possibly sending it on to the House or Senate as a whole.

Introduced Mar 12, 2013
Referred to Committee Mar 12, 2013
Reported by Committee ...
Passed House ...
Passed Senate ...
Signed by the President

Currently there are 157 cosponsors. For a list of them, visit https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/113/hr1094

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES!!! Here are some sites with letters to your reps asking them to support the S.A.F.E. Act. Please check to see if you have missed any one of them. If you have, PLEASE, PLEASE send today!!

Noted and signed....it's a senseless slaughter of these magnificent animals who deserve to live peacefully on this earth...we know it and you (Congress) knows it. So, please, do the right thing....defend them....honor them Thanks for sharing Ruth.

I have signed petitions against this and called Mary Fallin's office but unfortunately and typically they do what they want to do. I'm sure there's a silver lining for her and her Republican buddies somewhere. Anything that is bad they're going to do their best to push it through and because Oklahoma is a hell-bent Republican state there is no chance of shaking Ms. Fallin out of office.
