To the surprise of other Republicans, Walsh took the floor and spoke frankly and passionately on her personal feelings of marriage and gay rights. Walsh's words were honest, genuine, and insistent of the importance of not depriving the opportunity for all

I'm pleased she addressed the most vital issue, humans are naturally social creatures and need companionship. For a few that need is satisfied by a pet, but pets are not able to conserve with us, they do not share our sense of humor, the long talks or walks enjoyed by couples and of course sex. I have really tried to understand this so called "debate" and still find the only answer being a tangle between politics and religion. These are not decisions for the state, they are issues that belong only to the two people involved. All marriages are first registered with the state the action of a marriage in a church or religious nuptials are a matter of choice and not needed, only wanted by some.

I've watched her speech at least a couple times, and she was AMAZING. She spoke with such honesty, LOVE and emotion, there was no doubt of her support. This really was a Valentine for all.
Washington is one of the Leaders of Equality for LGBT

Love is not gender-related. It's human-related.

she's a brave woman to go against her Party. You can bet she won't get any money from the Big Money guys in her re-election campaign.

Kudos to Maureen Walsh for showing the way to honoring one's oath of office and providing a good example to those who helplessly repeat partisan talking points at odds with factual evidence.

Any time any elected official show signs of being able to think an issue through for themselves instead of repeating a party line I am thrilled! Kudos, Maureen.

What a beautiful, honest and heartfelt speech! You could feel the love and pride Maureen Walsh has for her daughter in every word she spoke. We all need to concentrate on living our own lives and let others live theirs the way they see fit. Instead of passing judgment, we need to accept.

Thanks, Dandelion!

Thank you for sharing, Dandelion. This voice is really important. You are right, Ewoud, it isn't the gender right, this is the human rights' matter

The Tea Party Republican GOP, is fighting a losing battle, fostered by the conservative right-wing nut cases.

Oh my, does Maureen Walsh know she's a RepubliCON? Will she be expelled from the GOP? Seriously..they are a spiteful bunch and she's no Dick Cheney..;)

Although I was in the dance world for more than half of my life, I learned the most about couples from my sister who's been with her love for 28 years! What more can I say! Breaking ranks for any Republican must take courage and conviction. In this case it also takes heart.
