Even though the necessary revenues could be raised through a miniscule tax increase, powerful anti-tax groups in the area were organized against it. Sound familiar. Watched what worked on this one issue we all need to think outside the box.

I love the tactics they used to save this library, I think this same thing could apply to other issues. Say with the cutting out the Food Stamps, go around saying Starve the Children a play off of Feed the Children. See if people want to vote for that one or the people who promote cutting the Food Stamps.

Awesome video and strategy in voting for a minuscule tax increase to save the library in
Troy, Michigan.

Our town in Snonoma, CA voted for a 1/2 cent tax increase for various services which needed
money by 66% last week. Love this old town...

PS: our small library recently got an update, facelift in increasing the size of the library, more computers,
a little more space and a nice brightness to it. Lovely. It took over 3/4 of a year for the update and a church
gave us the use of it for a temporary library during the remodeling. Very Thankful...

If any of you out there in other areas that are facing a small tax increase for services in your town, vote for it.
After all, our tax dollars are at work. I believe it is called, gasp, "socialism"...

Ty, Dandelion.

Isn't that a great video Tanya and Christeen? I hope you learned a good tactic to be able to save the animals and the planet. We all need to learn how to work within the system to make things work best for us, this was a helpful way and was also thinking outside the box.

Thank you for posting one of the winners. We will see too many of the losers in the up coming elections. It's great to hear about people using the media to fight back against the Repugnant Party.

From the age of 6 to 14 years old, while living in Moss Beach, CA, I benefitted from the library system. During the mid- and late-1960s, many library systems across the United States had just launched their own book mobiles. Back then, California had many small communities with residents that commuted to and from San Francisco or other cities for their occupations. Most of the communities only had a corner grocery store, a post office, a restaurant, and a gas station and nothing else. Larger communities like Half Moon Bay had salons, hospitals, lawyers, real estate agents, the movie theater, the junior high, the high school, and THE library for a section of the Highway 1 area. Back in the 1960s, many parents did not drive their children around like they do today! I spent my entire summer in Moss Beach practically without any access to a library. Every week, on a specific day and time, only a half block from Highway 1, the book mobile stopped in Moss Beach. Christ, I would be there nearly an hour before it was scheduled to arrive with last week’s already read checked out book selection! I always feared that I might miss the book mobile, especially since I was ready for some fresh, unread books for reading and pleasure for the upcoming week.

Today, people still use the library a lot. Nowadays, they take computer classes and check out manuals for studying for specific exams ranging from a postal worker’s position to certified auto mechanic’s position to even an electrician’s position. Some libraries read to young children while others play movies on specific days and times for the indigent. And, many of the indigent are veterans. So, most of the movies are targeted for the male veteran population.

Many libraries carry a lengthy listing of resource services for helping and guiding individuals to specific agencies and organizations for aid or advice. Many people of every race depend of the library for guidance for finding beneficial resource information, for example, where to get food stamps or EBT cards or where to find low-income housing or where to find the legal aid office. (Some people do not have the patience or even know how to search today’s phone books for the addresses and telephone numbers of local organizations and agencies.) Even today, although not as often, one can still call the reference department of a library and ask a specific question, and a reference clerk will take the time to find the answer.

Even though, I was truly upset to learn that the Clark County Library District did not partake in World Book Night. I still must admit that our local libraries perform quite a service for our local communities. We tend to take them for granted!!!

Thank you Portland, I wish I had another star to give you but I'm afraid you got the weekly quota already. Yes, the libaries do a wonderful service for a lot of people in many various ways. I know my granddaughter and I will enjoy once more this summer the weekly children's movies they offer for free. It is very hot in Florida this time of year, so keeping cool is important.

These Wed. movies offer us a cool place to have an indoor picnic as the event is called. Children can bring their blankets and spread them on the floor, bring our own lunch to eat as we watch the movie. The library also supplies the popcorn for free and once in awhile even drink for all. After we get our new books to read for the week and return them the next Wed. when we watch the show. Speaking for myself, I've always been very grateful to have a good library in my life. The one time I didn't have one closeby, when I had moved for 4 years to Maine I really missed it.
