DeIndustrialization of America

America is rapidly becoming the first post-industrial nation on the globe. Failed tax subsidies to the Corporations have lined their pockets at the expense of us all. While austerity is asked of the average American & poor why does this remain for them?

Whirlpool isn't the only Company that has gained in these tax breaks and subsidies many Corporations are getting this and deliver little back in return. This video just happens to focus on this one Company, but repeat this all over and one has the same scenario playing out, islands of extreme poverty where once was a thriving community. The impact is being felt all over the USA, as people move to look for other jobs, limited jobs to be had, lower wages, so on and so forth.

A short video but tells a lot in it.

Shame on Whirlpool! What used to be an American Company, is now akin to being a traitor. They have left their homeland workforce and public that made them what they are, for cheap labor while watching the community that built them suffer and languish in poverty. This REALLY should be illegal!!!

I could see the writing on the wall when I heard that companies where transferring jobs to countries were people worked for less than a living wage. At first the products made were nearly as good as what they'd always been but slowly the quality deteriorated to cr@p. This means that the few at the top are getting stinking rich and the rest of the world is left treading water.

Sorry to hear that Whirlpool workers are loosing their jobs. Greed is very destructive, and when we care more about maximizing profit than caring about the people we work with this kind of thing is bound to happen.

Bill Clinton told you this was going to happen and to get prepared back in 1996. Bill Clinton is very good friends with all the right people in the IMF/WCB/CFR and the Trilateral Commission. He thinks the Friedmanization of America is a good thing. Do you?

Well I don't know about Bill Clinton telling us but if you have the link to the conversation or the speech please add it onto the thread. I know Bill Clinton was the one who signed in NAFTA and Ross Perot had his famous line of the hearing the jobs being sucked out of this Country. It did, the jobs are still leaving.

Shameful on all these companies that are shipping jobs to other countries so they can make more profits, Our Government should tax them very heavy for doing this and then not allow any of their products imported to this country, Whirlpool also close a plant in Indiana a few years ago.

There will be a lot more companies who are going to transfer jobs to other countries and it is because Obama wants to tax them more and more and more and he will and they will pull out..we have no one to blame but ourselves! Then we will also have less jobs to create more taxes that who knows who is going to end up paying!? :-( It's just a tax the crap out of the big companies and they are gonna leave!

Carol did you not watch the video? The Corporations took the jobs out of this Country when they were GIVEN tax breaks. Many Corporations are not paying any taxes at all; such as Whirlpool which was explained in this video.

So if they do not keep the jobs in this Country for getting tax breaks; why on earth do we keep giving them more of the tax breaks?

I am not always in agreement with Obama on many things, but on this point it makes great sense to me to have Companies that are not investing in this Country for jobs to not get the tax breaks anymore. In fact this is the fraud I'd like to go after, those Companies that promised to create jobs here for those tax breaks while they did just the opposite. I'd like our moving money back in tax breaks we gave them.

These people who run these Companies who suck up all the life blood of people and towns across America are the vampires, the hungry ghosts that have now grown to godzilla proportions and their unquenchable hunger for power and control, and burning thirst for more..and more.. and more is threatening to devour Nature and all who wish to live freely here on mother earth..........
We have to keep the songs of Truth and Freedom going... And stand up for what is right...
Thank you for posting this Dandelion......

Great comments Dandelion & Devon - It has been SINCE these Corporations & Super wealthy that run them have been given these huge tax breaks, over the past couple decades, that the decline in working wages & the outsourcing of jobs, and the inequality in tax revenue has destroyed the economy, caused massive unemployment and left some cities in poverty and crime - not to mention the lust for more money, massive profits and the war machine that continues to drain the budget!

The "American Made" pride is seldom heard any more, and "Look for the Union Label" has been replaced with "Bust the Unions". Not only do we have Big Corporations outsourcing work, but we have Politicians that have given them unrestrained access to sub-standard wages and tax-free Corporate Earnings, while the Politicians gather gifts, trips, donations, and other forms of bribery to line their own pockets while turning their backs on "majority" that elected them!

Another thing I would like to point out, though not directly connected to THIS specific story - As is becoming more and more frequent.... The mass shootings in schools, shopping centers, businesses & even family homes is an indicator of the past 20 years of decline. A decline of jobs, health care, homes, Union jobs and the ability to keep up with the rising costs of food and necessities and most of all HOPE. All those conditions result in violence, anger and 'taking sides' between the haves and have not's. Shouldn't everyone have what they need to live? Maybe we should start paying our teachers HAZARDOUS DUTY pay! If you want a country like Syria, let the Elite rule. Like Iran? Let Religion rule. How about Military rule? All that happens when you have those kinds of conditions and the masses are poor. People need to pull their heads out of the sand (or wherever they have them)

Noted w/much thanks, Dandelion. These subsidies and tax breaks need to end, and these corporations need to be taxed retroactively.

Thanks for posting this Sheryl. Whirlpool is one of many companies doing the same thing. When I read the list of the huge corporations who paid NO taxes, but still were given these huge tax breaks while making millions, I saw stars. GE was one of them. The oil companies also profit from tax breaks while making billions of dollars in profits. Congress gives to those who donate to their campaigns and give them jobs as lobbyists after their constituents finally vote them out of office.

Obama's Debate Claims On Tax Writeoffs For Offshoring Hold Up: Fact Checkers

The Huffington Post | By Dave Jamieson Posted: 10/09/2012

In a testy exchange during last week's presidential debate, Mitt Romney suggested that a certain tax break criticized by President Barack Obama didn't even exist.

Obama said he wanted to "close those loopholes that are giving incentives for companies that are shipping jobs overseas. I want to provide tax breaks for companies that are investing here in the United States." ...

... Some Democrats, led by Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), have argued that such deductions need to be eliminated for companies that are moving jobs offshore. The Bring Jobs Home Act, a so-called insourcing bill sponsored by Stabenow earlier this year, would have eliminated such deductions while providing other tax breaks for companies bringing jobs back to the U.S. The bill failed to overcome a GOP filibuster.

As PolitiFact notes, the deductions that companies receive for moving costs are "trivial" when compared to other tax breaks enjoyed after moving operations overseas.

WHY can't the GOP Congress be charged as traitors to America and Americans?

Good question Dorothy, it seems all of those who are suppose to be protecting us from such take overs and thugs don't seem to be anywhere these days. Our courts are bought out as much as Washington in many cases, we are in dire straits in many ways. Too many of us took for granted that the system was fail proof; it obviously isn't, but it wasn't done over night, there has been a strategic well thought out plan for 40 some years, this is the result and it isn't pretty for most of us.

Indeed Edith and they do it the other way around too, they are in Big Business, they "leave" and I say that with tongue in cheek, for it's a planned leave. This Corporation pays good money for the person to run for a political seat to then make the needed changes in some area that benefits the Corporation(s). This is how the Gas for Fracking obtained the "Hailburton Loophole" to disregard the EPA on our Safe Water Act got in; we can thank Dick Cheney for that one. That man should be held accountable for many things; but he lives a life of freedom while having lots of blood on his hands.

There should be some legislation passed ensuring that federal grant or state monies are used and spent for the specific purposes they were intended for and for the people they were meant to benefit. Michigan was and still is in the top five states with extremely high unemployment rates. Do you think they would throw away their hard earned revenues from their taxpaying residents so that they can provide jobs for people in Taiwan or Mexico?

Thanks for this article Dandelion.

This deIndustrialization started back in the 1980s, maybe before. Where I grew up there are few jobs left that pay more than minimum wage. It is very sad. We used to have the best workforce in the world and could again, if not for corporate greed getting in the way.

Get rid of corporate loopholes and create a system where they have to bring jobs back. Until we address jobs, we will NOT fix this economy or the federal budget.

Thanks for posting this Sheryl. It seems as though no matter what we do we just keep sliding backwards. There needs to be better incentives to keep large corporations from outsourcing and strict penalties for those companies that do send jobs overseas. One can only dream right!
