If you don't have time for the whole thing, which I hope you will take the time as a lot of important territory is covered at least listen to the Cornel West speech at 20 minute mark. But truly, the whole symposium is well worth the time. Your on here Care2 because you care, this is one of those places to sit back and listen.

Who could not agree with Cornel West? I think there was also a post here on C2NN (if I'm not mistaken by "Greg" (=David Buchan) demanding for presidents to stop swearing on the bible.

I do remember Roseann DeMoro's petition for a Robin Hood tax being circulated around her- did it help any? NO.

Memorial Service for Aaron seems a bit delayed, so I keep coming back here while waiting.
Ohio Rep.Fudge raised a very good point there, echoing what Obama himself said in his victory speech:
"MAKE ME DO IT"- so you should!

It's not just the bible as Cornel West stated, but it's that the Martin Luther Kings bible was used, which negates all of what Martin Luther King Jr. stood up and struggled so passionately for, even gave his life for. That this particular bible be used as prop, a ploy, a tool for some symbolism that doesn't do justice to what Martin stood for, people like Cornell West and others are taking issue with by using "that" particular bible. For President Obama is not even reaching close to what MLK stood for in the three keys areas that Cornell mentions.

One in particular I fully agree with, Don't use MLK's bible, a man that stood for peace and non violence by a man who is the only winner of the Peace Prize that has a "kill list".

Give the woman applause at the 1 hour 40 minute place......bravo bravo bravo! I can't repeat enough, how good this video is....now a Live Feed, but it will start at the beginning anytime one pulls it up. Gets me excited this Live Feed like I was listening to Bernie Sanders.

A quote mentioned by one of the speakers.

Suze Orman "There is a highway into poverty, there is not even a sidewalk anymore to get out."

Hope you feel better soon Arthur. Well worth the time when you feel better. In fact, there is no real watching, one will gain everything if they sit back and listen. I like to see who is doing the speaking, I make note of those people.

The Robin Hood tax is still trying to be push here and UK is a hold out I hear. It isn't the only solution, it's one of many. The Plutocrats have so much tied up in legislation that can't be undone for awhile that we have to look for a bit of relief where it can be found to fund programs that are going down the drain for our children, Elders, and poor.

I have understood all that well, sheryl-and particularly regarding that kill list it makes NO DIFFERENCE WHICH bible he swears on-it is a disgrace and disregarding BOTH!:

the long break I took for that memorial threw me back in time, catching up now...all I can say so far:
STANDING OVATIONS for just about all of them, what a brilliant high profile set of individuals! Need more of such symposiums! And, yes, Rep. Fudge is really speaking out, bravo!

Have bookmarked it in favorites so I can go back to it over and over. Love me some Cornell!

I agree with you on many levels, Sheryl. He has sold out to the dark side on many things and no, her shouldn't be using THAT particular Bible. But, I still hope against hope that in his 2nd term, not having to run for anyting in future, he will do some good for the rest of us and give the Thug Party a giant flying finger. I can still hope.......and prepare for ....other things.

Dr. West is a revolutionary and a visionary; we need more leaders such as him to wake up the American people to the truly sorry state of their nation and to motivate all of us to take direct action to achieve real change that we can actually see, not merely submit to believing. Resistance to the corporate agenda is never futile.

Noted w/thanks, Dandelion. My admiration for Cornell West runs deep. My hope for change in the 2nd term isn't very high because of what happened during Clinton's 2nd term. With threats from the GOP of impeachment now, they've turned the tide of conversation drastically. From what I've seen, read and heard from the GOP, they intend to weaken Obama by continually attacking him on every issue. I really hope he can neutralize them and be successful with a more progressive and "Green" agenda.

Please do try to watch this video as there were a lot of great speakers on here besides Cornel West. I was very impressed.

Same petition Angelika that you signed on the other thread for a New Vision for America, he is just repeating it on this Live Feed for those who hadn't seen their site.

Ok, Sheryl, but that still does not make it visible on that site, am I blind?
And I tend to agree with Lois, I don't think there will be any change, unless YOU ALL make it. Even if Newt Gingrich tried to look good, he won't get far or anywhere. West is 200% right!

Amen to that Sheryl!! I agree 100%!! I also heard he was suppose to be using either Washington's or Lincoln's Bible..can't remember which one for sure! What a disgrace to them!!

"We must all learn to live together as brothers or we will all perish together as fools. For some strange reason I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. And you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be."

This is a dream I hope will come true. Thanks Sheryl.

No not blind Angelika, he only verbally mentions the petition link, it's not shown. If that still doesn't help then I think I'm missing the boat of what you are seeking or asking about.

RIP Aaron Swartz, your life driven to the edge from a society gone mad.

Thank you Angelika for feeling such compassion for this young man. I'm still trying to deal with the anger of it all, a brilliant young man torn to pieces by the overzealous who do nothing to have protected this young man or others of us in this Country who are being chewed to threads and spit out. I will give it to Spirit in time, I need to hold this for awhile so I don't forget why I do what I do, why I speak out the way I do. I so needed this symposium on the heels of his death.

For Aaron......

We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.

We shall overcome because Carlyle is rightó"No lie can live forever."

We shall overcome because William Cullen Bryant is rightó"Truth, crushed to earth, will rise again."

Words used by Martin Luther King Jr. in his speech Remaining Awake Through A Great Revolution
Remaining Awake Through A Great Revolution

Sorry if I keep bugging with this Sheryl. Sure, I had already signed but my point was that Tavis clearly said multiple times "go to our website(FWOP= A future without poverty dot com),you'll find a petition/letter to Obama on there and sign it" and I have not found it yet on THAT site. He did NOT say go to "Vision for a new America/ A future without poverty", so I guess I donated to the "wrong" "Future without Poverty" since the other site doesn't even have a donation button.. But they certainly can use it just the same and sent me a long thank you e-mail
I just wonder if others who were not presented with that other website you posted for us have even found that petition. by just following Tavis (wrong) instructions...his site has a totally different URL.

As for Aaron, yes, I ,too am still dealing with that. It was a very emotional Saturday night for me, watching both that memorial and this symposium, partly by switching from one to another as the memorial started off some 20 mins later than planned. After those 2 hrs then directly following up with the breathtaking symposium-what a night!

Letter to The President on the A New Vision for America

This is the best I can offer my dear and I'm glad they sent you a nice thank you letter; and I thank you as well. I'd have to watch the video again, and I will not be able to do so tonight, I'm way behind on addressing a lot of emails and I'll be away from the computer all day tomorrow.
