It is a wonderful time to be alive to see things like "A Billion Strong" rise up and sing out what is true and righteous and wholesome across the planet....! This is one of the gifts of our be able to connect with so many in just moments of time. As hard as these times are there is so much more space (technology has provided us that) for the peacemakers and agents for positive change to be heard and make a difference on a much larger scale. Thanks for sharing all of this good news Dandelion....!

Thanks, Sheryl. I haven't seen anything about this on the network news programs, guess women are not important enough to them.

So glad to see that this cause is getting so much well-deserved attention. Their website is a thing of beauty, with tons of information that is very nicely presented. I wish them much success in this endeavor! It would be helpful if they had a mechanism in place for making donations directly through their website, rather than having to go through "Canada Helps" (thank you, Angelika, for pointing that out) and having to figure out which organization to choose.

Thanks, Dandelion, for sharing this information!

Susanne, I did not mean to point out anything, had just copied what it said after completing my donation, "Canada Helps" is processing donations for "Have a Heart Day " and I guess for the other 2 causes as well. My donation was via PayPal. All one has to do is pick one or more causes on the left, go to their websites and click donate link-a rather lenghty process follows.

It cannot be done technically for the Idle No More website to provide an online donation option for 3 different organisations/causes, you would always have to visit the respective site/s of your choice to donate.

Reported Bill P Spammer...

Stars for all of those I could, a special big thank you for Angelika!

Edith you are so correct, is why it is important we pass the word around however we can. Most Network news is basically patriarchal; so the women's important stories are on their backburner. I always appreciate the wonderful comments from many of the men on C2 concerning womens issues. Those are the men who understand that when a woman's life is doing better so does their own.

Thanks Ben, just had an opportunity to read what you left.

Excerpts from the article:

While a great many injustices were inflicted upon the indigenous peoples in the name of colonization, indigenous peoples were never “conquered.”

The creation of Canada was only possible through the negotiation of treaties between the Crown and indigenous nations. While the wording of the treaties varies from the peace and friendship treaties in the east to the numbered treaties in the west, most are based on the core treaty promise that we would all live together peacefully and share the wealth of this land.

The problem is that only one treaty partner has seen any prosperity.

The failure of Canada to share the lands and resources as promised in the treaties has placed First Nations at the bottom of all socio-economic indicators — health, lifespan, education levels and employment opportunities.

While indigenous lands and resources are used to subsidize the wealth and prosperity of Canada as a state and the high-quality programs and services enjoyed by Canadians, First Nations have been subjected to purposeful, chronic underfunding of all their basic human services like water, sanitation, housing, and education.

Part of the problem is that federal “Indian” policy still has, as its main objective, to get rid of the “Indian problem.”

For more on the article please read. This is also true of the American Indian and how the Federal Govt. and States treat the indigeneous within the borders of the usa.

I first heard of the group a few weeks ago at the Governor's State of the State address where we were petitioning the governor to ban fracking - there were representatives of several Canadian indiginous people whose lands are being violated for fracking (Tar Sands XL) - this group was represented and they are indeed being heard! A wonderful group!
Thanks for the post Sheryl
