Canada is becoming more and more like its southern neighbor when it comes to human rights and corporate greed. What I love about the indigenous people is that their major concern is protecting their land and resources for future generations, while Stephen Harper's conservative crew would rape the land of anything and everything of value to benefit the wealthy companies that would displace the land's inhabitants and sell whatever they can extract from it. The indigenous people are about love of the earth, love of their families, and love of their culture. The corporate vultures don't understand such values because they love only money.

Thank you for sharing this with us, Dandelion. I hope the event is a great success!

Thank you Sheryl so much for this share. The indigenous people always understood the meaning of living their lives respectful of the land & all it had to offer, since the beginning. They set fine excellent examples for others to follow, but sadly, many did not. Gladly Signed up & Shared, so very needed at this time, dear friend~

The waters in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas by the Outer Continental Shelf are being drill through for oil. These waters are very rough and extremely icy a times—or maybe all the time. I still cannot understand why the U.S. government even approved exploratory drilling from 1212 to 1217 in the Arctic. I bet, during the first few years of drilling with Shell’s leases, we will witness a Royal Dutch Shell oil disaster that will shame us before everyone globally!

Meanwhile, there are at least two tribes of Indians that own or possess the lands by these seas. Despite their efforts to stop Shell’s drilling, their VOICES have been totally ignored by the president, the representatives for the Bureau of Land Management, the representatives for the Bureau of Natural Resources and Energy (I think this is what the agency is called), as well as other federal representatives and their own state representatives.

To not have a political voice or control over your own community’s land is a powerless, violating experience. To witness the permanent destruction of the most fragile and pristine biome on the planet is like watching a very close, virginal family member being brutally assaulted before your own eyes and being totally powerless to stop the offense.

The people in Africa; for example, the Nigerians, suffered from the corporate powers and abuses of Shell and Exxon.

I still do not understand why our government permitted access to this priceless region, which sustains the existence of thousands of species, for one lifeless natural resource.

Well, this situation is an example of one violation against the Rights of Indigenous Peoples!

Signed up earlier, watched the vids. The Washeeshu never learn apparently.....maybe this time they will. I am so sick of history repeating itself. I will always stand with any and all indigenous peoples everywhere for what is just and right and against what is wrong and immoral. Greed is, was and always will be, WRONG.

You are welcome Ewoud and I thank those like Terrie who stand in Solidarity with the people who understand what matters in life......Susanne R captured that nicely in her comment. I fully agree Dan, more need to get into an action mode, apathy will only lead to our demise.....there are dire and serious environmental issues going on and that also impacts our economic conditions too.

Have they learned nothing from history?
Or, do they care?

Unfortunately, the Canadian Government and the USA both walked to the beat of a similar drummer when it came to how North America was invaded and taken over, then the subsequent treatment of it's first people who lived here.

Canada was making some more progressive headway with it's First Nations until the $$$ started to be seen by the Multi-National Corporations that set sight on raping the lands for all of it's resources, cutting out the First Nations people from having a say so on how this was going to be done if done at all and certainly how much if anything they'd be compensated for. Another robbery, another rape and pillage.

The Harper Government is joining in with the USA and others in selling its people and the environment down the drain for short term monetary gain. With the magnitude of the Tar Sands and other projects moving full steam ahead the First Nations people are realizing this is do or die. Harpers Government has tried to slip in a lot of policies that would strip away the rights of the First Nations and their sovereignty, this is becoming very clear to them, their very survival depends on their standing up to this.

I couldn't be more proud to "Join you in my Love and Join you in my Solidarity" (Vantana Shiva) on November 7th. Dandelion. Obviously I have watched the videos and have joined... "Thank you for being Idle No More". I used my personal email for joining, which only 7 people have. I desperately wanted to be present and unfortunately this is impossible as S.F. is the closest even being over 300 miles north. I would host an event myself but don't know a soul who to invite or how to try. I am ashamed I haven't knowledge enough to even try. From my core Dandelion, THANK YOU! My Heart will be with you and your peoples, as they are every day of my life.

For those who are not sure what to do, I had suggested in my message to call the Canadian Government or to write expressing your support or your Solidarity with the Idle No More Action on October 7th.

Here is that information:

Email Address

Mailing Address
The Right Honourable Stephen Harper
Prime Minister of Canada
Office of the Prime Minister
80 Wellington Street
Ottawa, ON
K1A 0A2

Phone Number
(613) 992-4211

I sent this to everyone as they are asking for Global Support. We have C2 members who do live in Canada and I realize not all can travel long distance nor have a physical action in their Country outside of Canada. But we all have a computer, there is an email address. For those who wouldn't mind sending a letter, they say a actual snail mail letter has more impact, and for those who prefer to call the number is above. We can all do a little bit of something to help the First Nations people.

The issues that are at stake here are huge and affect everyone. Upholding ones word and protecting the Earth and all it's inhabitants makes for a true leader...and these qualities are sorely in the U.S and sadly most everywhere. The hypnotic trance state of materialism has lulled way too many into states of stupified indifference.....very very scary...!!! I am thankful for "Idle No More" for raising the voices of truth and freedom. I hope their voices continue to ring out loud and clear everyday. They are in the right. All over this earth indigenous people are being ripped off of land for the resources and it needs to stop before the corporations like hungry ghosts gobble up everything that lives...
Thank you again Dandelion for keeping us fueled for freedom
