HIJACKING CATASTROPHE - Fear And The Selling of the American Empire

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: American Empire, Hijacking Catastrophe, 9-11, Wolfowitz's PNAC philosophy, Project for the New American Century, Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld, Jeb Bush, Dan Quayle )

The film maintains that fear of terrorism from 9-11 onward was manipulated to support goals of the Project for the New American Century. To reassert American dominance on the world stage as a warning to potential adversaries.

Thank you very much for your mail Dandelion. Oil is everything. In reality inventions are there to have a different way of driving must it is undermined by the big corporations because they would not earn any money on us.
I am going to watch the video as soon as I can.

I'm afraid we are watching Rome burn and too many are watching Dance With the Stars or whatever else is the most amusing to them. Thanks Patrick, I'm doing what I can from my humble place to open more eyes, being the optimist I don't give up easy.

Thank you Birgit, your comment wasn't there when I responded to Patrick. Actually this goes even beyond oil but that certainly has a big part to play into the matter, for it is the black gold that allows these people to do all the rest of what they want upon us all.

Thanks, I appreciate everyone who will watch. As I said in the message I sent to some who may come across this story, it may be old news to some, a refresher for others, and new information still to others, or might even offer something one wasn't aware of within much of what they knew. We need all hands on ship if we want to do better in many directions.

Thanks Sheryl for this valuable post. Whether the news are new or refreshing, they are certainly shocking > I am sure Americans who love their country are wondering if it worth all this ? All these billions spent could change the lives of millions of Americans. America as a nation didn't benefit but corporations and contractors certainly did.

Whoa, girl!

You did a a wonderful quick catch-up for beginners . . . VERY WORTHY! I hope the time you've invested is taken to heart. (It's necessary for our survival.)

Yes, we MUST get used to reading mainstream headlines with a note of caution and always "follow the money." (Then read alternative news to get the real skivvy.)

Thank you, dear Sheryl.

Many of us watch Dancing with The Stars or The Voice ... because we can no longer take what this country has become. We can no longer take that our democracy is collapsing ... that our entire lives have been a lie ... that our sons and/or daughters are fighting for a lying, menacing machine that will chew them up and spit them out without a thought. After years of activism and fighting on the ground against all that is now happening ... some of us can no longer be involved in the fight because we are collapsing in on ourselves from the weight of the truth. Some of us had to take a rest. I thank you for being so astute as to what people should see ... you always find good ones, Sheryl. I have watched this one. ALL should do so. People need to quit believing this government and become thinking, compassionate, caring human beings again. This world can emotionally kill us ... just by knowing what the truth is. But we need to know the truth. Ignoring it will kill us all.

A shower of stars to you, Dandelion, for your posts.... I get so disgusted with those companies who betray this country and then I get more disgusted with the people who appear not to care and do nothing about it. The companies get away with all they do because we allow them to .... if everyone was a force the way you are, we'd all be better off. Many thanks for this and for all you do....

If you are aware of Dick Cheneys true desire to be the ruling force in oil producing countries, especially Iraq and Iran (the motherlode), it raises questions about 911, and how convenient it was to the bush reelection, and hopes for oil control through fear mongering...No one really distinguished wmd posession by Sadam from Osama bin Laden's so called attack which demolition experts still call questionable as to exactly what caused the towers to fall.
Off topic, but it applies

Not off topic Tasunka, this is covered in the film I left. There is a lot we can do Terry, first of all to not feel helpless but to start sharing information so that it reaches everyone. If we expect the mainstream media to do so we wait forever. Sure a bit is covered here or there but it should be pounding it out. I watch MSNBC and each show does a repeat, maybe a little change here or there, but there is so much not even discussed. Wasn't discussed today, nor yesterday, most likely not tomorrow.

So what can you do?????????

Become educated yourself if you are not to what is going on politically in your Country and then offer out information. Talk to each other. Join any groups in your area or start one. Are you part of the Legion, the Rotary Club, PTA, a Senior Group, Peace groups, I don't know, groups, organizations.

Find some time to sit down and come together to share and discuss information, as one would find time to offer a Bingo night or the Bean Supper night. Do not allow one group or member or to hijack the meeting, you are not a Tea Party group or a Left Wing group but each person has the right to offer information and others will respectfully listen and then take turns to question it.

Be sure to bring factual information with you to these groups. I left a story about OccuCards that offered the information is a clear way. You can download them for free or order some. Click on each card and it will bring larger the information. A quick tool to learn from. Link below:
OccuCards

Occupy had a good system for this, people listened then with their hands raised them up to agree with what was being said or not. Google their hand signs or create your own, that prevents shouting. In native circles we use the Talking Feather, the one with the feather is the one talking others listen. The feather goes around so each can have a turn, one can ask questions of another who already spoke or counter something someone else said.

This has gone on before, but unfortunately is is happening NOW for us.....even Plato wrote the following.

As a just and healthy person is governed by knowledge and reason, a just society must be under the control of society’s most cultivated and best informed minds, its “lovers of wisdom.” Just societies cannot be run by big money or armed forces with their too narrow agendas. Limitless desire for wealth and blind ambition must be watched and contained as potential public dangers. The most informed minds must determine objectively, with due consideration of all points of view, what the most healthy and practical goals for the commonwealth are.

Please also do not think that people are not allowed to watch Dance With The Stars or whatever else may be relaxing and enjoyable to them. But far too many do ONLY that, and spend 0 time doing something that should be a civic duty. Keeping an eye on their Country and partaking in it more than just going to vote once every 2 or 4 years.

They should be much more informed then they are on who is running for office and where they stand on a variety of policies. Don't let them dance around the questions......tell them a yes or no.....the dances are no longer acceptable. If they won't commit, tell them you won't commit your vote. These are also things one can do.

Make your signs stand out on November 5th in front of your local banks that have been involved in the banks who have done damage to the system and caused so many to loose their homes. Or stand out in front of the town or city hall with the topic that most concerns you. Stop Wars Support Education instead. Where are the Living Wage Jobs? Leave our Social Security alone. NO TPP. The list are endless, or look onto the OccuCards there are many topics they address.

Write, call, your Representatives besides signing Petitions. A handwritten letter offers far more weight than a petition. For every one letter it is figured 100 feel the same way but will not take the time to write. Be creative, come on Americans were always creative. We started the major Labor Movement that other Countries picked up and ran with themselves. The worlds people copied our Occupy Movement, we have more power than we give ourselves credit for to make the needed changes we want to see in our lives.......but we EACH HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!

Thanks, Dandelion. I didn't set aside enough time today, so will watch tomorrow. I will say that I agree with everything you've mentioned, though. Prior to 9/11, I wasn't really aware of any more than I watched occasionally on TV news. That all changed for me on 9/11, and I immersed myself in learning all I could....about everything I could on a worldwide basis. So, I understand where Deb E. (above) is coming from.
Those of us who have been signing petitions, sending letters, making phone calls, attending protests.....do reach a point of sheer exhaustion...sometimes depression. We need a "time out" occasionally....to refresh. Sometimes it's "information overload." I try to set a "daily quitting time" when possible. But, sometimes, things are so fluid, we have to continue to pay attention....like when Congress was in session until 5 a.m. working on the Financial Reform bill. (I used to watch much of msnbc, but have now switched to the various C-SPAN's, and switch over when Rachel's on).

There are so many crucial issues right now: TPP, gov't surveillance, Gitmo (still!), KXL, GMO's, fracking, Fukushima....and fighting for a Robin Hood Tax and other taxes on the wealthiest & corps. Let's not forget those subsidies, too, to dirty energy. And, yet we are divided by a corporate media that's now even more constrained by threats of surveillance on them. The media also loves to vilify whistleblowers. Throw in Citizens United, and we have a recipe for catastrophe.
So, I see this as some dying gasps of the American Empire, trying to regain its strength. And, while it seems the two parties are millions of miles apart, there are actually "heroes" that come from both parties, as well as villains. Identifying each issue, and noting how party members vote is key is targeting them. For example, Rep. Justin Amash (R) is a member of the Tea Party, but he co-sponsored a bill with Dems. to rein in the NSA. And, these DEM Senators support Soc. Sec. cuts: Feinstein, Baucus, Manchin, Coons, Carper, Bennett, Durbin, Murray. So, all of us must definitely learn to look beyond party identity.

I just finished reading something that gives a bit of hope. "Netroots Goes Global" written by David Karpf in the 11/4/13 issue of The Nation: "A new wave of online organizations are replicating MoveOn's efforts across the world." It discusses and explains the Online Progressive Engagement Networks (OPEN).
Hope I didn't go off topic too much, but I feel strongly about many issues, and already see how they're inter-connected.....but look forward to watching the video to fill in the gaps for better eduction and understanding.

Outstanding documentary and I hope millions more watch this because it is time to become a democracy for the people, by the people. We have to undo the damage that the Bush Administration started and that is being carried on to this day. America has lost most of her friends and allies and we are on our own. Wake up America, you have been sold out. Until each and every American citizen accepts the truth, nothing will change. Until each and every American citizen stops voting for the lesser of 2 evils and votes for real progressives, nothing will change. Until each and every American actually acts instead of sitting on their hands, nothing will change. People ask, "What can we do?" We can educate ourselves first as to what the truth really is and accept that what we have been fed is purely propaganda to further the war machine and the far right extremists' REAL plan for this Country. And then, do the hard things, such as slowly scale back on little things that make you more tied to the grid then you need to be, like alternative sources of energy or use public transportation if possible. I don't have the answers, I am just tossing out suggestions. I realize that saying it and doing it are two different things. I think the main thing is educating yourself to what the real story is and not falling into the traps that the government tries to set for us so that we will support their warmongering and their absolute insistence that we continue to depend on fossil fuels. Share what you learn with others and perhaps not be silent when the opportunity presents itself to speak up instead. Just sayin. Thank you so much for this documentary Ms. D. I was definitely not surprised by any of it, but I was even more angry and nauseated than I was before. I am also more committed to doing whatever little things I can whenever possible.

Like millions of others I fell for all the scripted garbage after 9/11...it took many years and alot of soul searching to come to the conclusion I wa duped - Big Time. Now, It's so hard for me to believe so much of what come from the network news and am still trying to find my way to various places that still tell the truth. We live in very scary times. Think I finally undrstand some of how Putin came into power in Russia. The Cold War is now on and America is no longer top dog...China is emerging on top and that must drive these warmongers crazy. Obama seems to be leaning too far to the right as far as war goes - or he'd really bring our people home...and stop the drones. The Extremists are fooling themselves if they think we control any part of Iraq or Afghanistan. Those bases could be overrun by the Isalm Extremists anytime...So, besides getting our people killed and maimed, destroying our reputation with th world, clearing out the middle class, exactly what have these Idiots gained...money and the power it can buy??

And they all sit congratulating themselves on a job well done...

Good grief - stars all over the place! I knew the beginning - anyone who has ever studied history knows that any insecure leader immediately identifies a national threat and unites the country saying that they are under attack - it has been done for thousands of years... it also means they can then take over and become a tyrant...

I've just watched this vídeo and though US imperialism has been steadily increasing since WWII,this vídeo just show a narrow window of what happenend on Bush's watch after 9/11.Not a pretty picture but nothing new for us that have access to a free and impartial press, yes Bush should be tried for warcrimes and more with him.
I always think that you get further with honey than you do with vinagre and for all the trillions the US spend on military defense and and propping up dubies regimes around the world I believe more could have been achieved with diplomacy.
Now the latest scandal that shows us that the US is also spying on their "friends" will definitly not help you in the future.
All Empires fall, the question is when will the USA fall??
Thanks for putting the spotlight on this Sheryl but with only around 35% of Us citizens having a passport and the US being without a free press I fear it will take a long time before you hear the "fat lady" warming up.

Thank you all for some wonderful comments and it gives me great hope that the information is spreading and that the public is awakening bit by bit. I mean no disrespect to those who watch Dance With the Stars or whatever it is that they relax to for programs or video games so on so forth. I should be more clear next time and say, for those who ONLY watch.....a balance needs to be done.

I know after a hard day of work, errands and meals to get, the last thing people want to do is roll up their sleeves and take on difficult tasks. Dance with the Stars or whatever one watches is a good release, but in there should also be civic responsibility. Set aside one night a week, or a morning on the weekend, but we can't sit back and think that just because we went to the polls that all is over with for our responsibility as citizens.

Yes, burnout does happen and breaks are needed to recharge batteries, is why it's so important that before you do any activist work that a bit of preparation is done. Meditation, commune with your Higher Power, or just get centered, however that is done for you. I great the morning sun and ask for clarity and direction in my day, the sunshine after a good night rest has recharged my battery. I don't hold onto any negatives from stories but do what I can and let it go. Yes, I remember, so I can use the information later in whatever way I need to but I do not internalize it. It comes in and I let go of the negatives. I pull in the positives, which come from various places, music, my granddaughters smile for I say what will be here for her, and I pull in inspiration from many of you. I retain the positive and let go the negatives. It keeps one charged better and doesn't allow that draining to take place.

Is an honor having met many of you and all each of us can do is the best we can on educating ourselves and others. As Ggma Sheila said, she along with millions of others fell into the propaganda, it is easy to do, and we were raised to think that our Leaders would have our Countries best interest in mind along with ourselves. As we know, not everyone that ends up in the Leadership necessarily does, or their idea of "best interest" is not in keeping what others may feel is "best interest."

You comment wasn't there when I posted Arild. One can only hope that the internet will help with the 35% figure. The USA is a big Country and unlike Europe where one can travel short distance and go through many countries a lot of people just explore what is here or up into Canada which also did not require one to have a passport until a very recent time.

As to the press, that is a big problem. I use to order the magazine Mother Jones from the day it was founded, so that kept my mind alert to issues and what was going on that wasn't covered by the mainstream news. After Viet Nam the Leadership and Oligarchy certainly noticed that people paid attention to what came across their screens. Now we don't even see the flag draped caskets coming off the planes let alone the wounded in the field of battle.

I don't have the magic wand in this, I just believe that I can't sit back and remain silent or do nothing. We each in our own humble ways must search our hearts, look at the children in our life and our grandchildren and do the best we can. Ultimately they will live the longest in this and I'd like to think I had a hand in the beginning of the turning to a better way. It is deplorable that even our friends are mistreated and I'm glad other Countries are up to saying so. Sometimes it takes such a thing by other Countries standing up to get things changed and thanks to the whistleblowers that then must run for their lives. If we did have a real democracy, they wouldn't have to as we'd want to have them speak out so we could nip the deceit in the butt. This Country claims it wants to be Walking in the Best way......well......whistleblowers help in that. But when they must seek refuge in Russia it is a statement within itself.

The Chicken Hawk Neocons are the masters behind the ignorant Tea Party and are orchestrating the destruction of our free society. They should be tried for treason, sedition and crimes against humanity.

Thanks for the refresher, Sheryl!

Yes, we are New Rome and yes, we are beginning to burn. We humans, in the majority, have learned absolutely nothing down through the ages. All Empires rise only to fall, we are but one of them. It is the aftermath to come that gives me pause. I for one, have been more than ready to defend and protect that which is attached to me or is mine. I will defend, to the death. Hopefully, there will be enough decent, compassionate people left to start over and build a better America and finally learn their history and NEVER let this crap happen again on American soil.

An interesting piece Sheryl.
I was drawn to the statement "the process ... of revolutionary change is likely to be a long one ... absent some catastrophic and catalysing event ... like a new Pearl Harbour"
And that started me thinking about 9/11. I believe 9/11 was a catalyzing event, but for me the question is “Was it engineered by the neocons?” in order to manipulate the people. In 1992, the Wolfowitz Doctrine, Wolfowitz being a neocon of the 33rd order, called for the willingness of the US to take pre-emptive, and sometimes unilateral military action as needed, and called for a dramatic increase in defence spending. It also sought to prevent the rise of a new rival; and take access to vital raw materials (take what you want, when you want it, from whomever has it and screw anyone that doesn't want to comply). But it didn’t go anywhere because the Republicanus lost the ‘92 election.
In 2000, Wolfowitz’s Doctrine was repackaged by the Project for a New American Century in 2000 with the advent of a new Republicanus administration under Baby Bush. In addition to the original, it sought to make space the exclusive territory of the US, and it expanded even further the military budget to $100 billion. The core of the Bush policy was to manipulate the fear that America felt after 9/11, and looking back, the neocons accomplished this. As an example just think about how much anti Muslim hatred there is in the US 12 years later. The neocons, a branch of the Republicanus, have manipulated the American people through the politics of fear, into sheep ready to follow blindly . . . no thinking required, let alone critical thinking. This was so successful that some don’t want critical thinking skills taught in schools.
Now normally, I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I have to admit that this all makes sense. And look how far back it goes.
Another part of this that I notice can be summed up with the words ‘manifest destiny’. I have long observed that there is an attitude of ‘take what we want, when we want it, from whomever has it and screw anyone that doesn't want to comply or agree’. I have seen it many times through the years with American friends --- we do it this way and it works --- not as a suggestion but almost as an order without regard to local sensibilities.
Americans need to see the world in different contexts. Be a part of the world but don’t try to own the world. Don’t be xenophobic, but don’t try to be a master. We are all part of this blue planet. We need to be thinking critically and involved lest by watching from the sidelines, we become enwrapped in fear and open to being lead by others, like the neocons.

*The question is why are we there or still there? If one looks at the map of the big American bases created for the war, one is struck by the fact that they are completely identical to the route of the oil pipeline to the Indian Ocean, called the Trans Afghan Pipeline.
No surprise to me. Cheney's role in the deceit leading up to the invasion of Iraq was classic Macheavellian manipulation, and the knee-jerk jerks, who think of themselves as "Patriots" played their parts perfectly:sheep.
Wars have been fought for "resources," which translate to having more power to rule, more than anything, and in the last hundred, or so years, that resource has most often been oil.
One might even say that American imperialism has been based on nothing but easy access to oil. And the American oil companies simply carved up Iraq.

9/11 was absolutely a power grab by the corporate elite who are also in bed with the military industrial complex. Before 9/11 I was kind of naive about who was running things.
The years since 9/11 have only reinforced my distrust and disgust of the looting that has been going on right in front of us.
This is nothing less than the Stasi (NSA) controlling the media, money, and a very few with all of the resources controlling billions of slaves.
This time the Nazis are the Corporations and that is who the Stazi (NSA, same difference) are working for.

We are living in very sad and grave times and most of the people are not even aware, but I assume that was the same in other Countries until it finally reached a horrific crescendo.

To begin Dandelion, I want to thank you particularly for your post dated Tuesday October 29, 2013, 3:11 pm.
I have literately spent hours trying to re-watch this TRUTH of EVIL but have to stop as my Heart feels as if it's going to explode. I remember the second this occurred and the first thing I did was phone my dad. Being a pacifist my fear came out with the comment, "Turn on MSNBC-IMMEDIATELY dad because all my RANTING about imminent WAR because "W" was our President was occurring on the tele". I admit I had been burnt out on politics and while in my coma followed the news, but did nothing to join a group of like minded people.
The faces of "Dick" "W" "Rummy" paint the picture of the most psychopathic calculated EVIL for Power Dominance and Control...not to forget ARROGANCE and SUPERIORITY makes me crazy when I see how these neo-cons are so widespread they are or already have DESTROYED this country.
Before I go back to try and get through this horror (video) of reality I have to say I always felt that 9-11 gave the Neo-Cons the opportunity to put into play " the plans they were 'considering' since the first Bush administration". Nobel Peace Prize Laurate 1997 paraphrased. I want to say horribly disrespectful words, but choose not to. I assume you know the verbiage I would use if we were sitting around the table!
One thing that I am fascinated by (as I was ignorant of this) was what Mitchel D said. Thursday October 31, 2013, 7:10 pm
*If one looks at the map of the big American bases created for the war, one is struck by the fact that they are completely identical to the route of the oil pipeline to the Indian Ocean, called the Trans Afghan Pipeline.

9/11 was absolutely a power grab by the corporate elite, Nazi, 4th reich, bush/rove et al traitors...They caused chaos in the world to distract us.

Yes, Susanne one must be careful of choice of words but you still conveyed the passion. I had placed various sentences on the message that I sent this link around, so those who had read those message had the additional information. I didn't want to place it upon the threads as I wanted others to offer their own insights. However as the story has been on here for 3 days I'm going to place some of the handy time references on this thread. Will enter it in next comment.

Minutes 24 - 28:40 sec. explains the Big Lie and outcome.

30 Minutes - It's about control.

Shock and Awe (Heartbreaking a must watch part of the film)

at 33:35 seconds - 35:15

Shock and Awe; not a catchy CNN war coverage phrase but written by the National Defense University.

Shock and Awe....Policy being done in every American's name.

"to affect the will, perception, and understanding of the adversary to fight or respond to our strategic policy ends through imposing a regime of Shock and Awe."

"impose this overwhelming level of Shock and Awe against an adversary on an immediate or sufficiently timely basis to paralyze its will to carry on . . .

to seize control of the environment and paralyze or so overload an adversary's perceptions and understanding of events that the enemy would be incapable of resistance at the tactical and strategic levels."

*Enemy is a term that could refer to anyone; such as regular or the common citizens just sitting down to a cup of tea having no idea that they and their children have suddenly become enemy.

If you stay with the film beyond the 35:15 it tells how the American people's rights were simutaneously taken away via the Patriot Act without any public debate.

(How we too have become the enemy and most of us, if we are honest, have noticed the changes whether we understand why or not is another issue)

Medea Benjamin Co-Founder of Global Exchange "All of these things should be of the gravest concern for Americans and yet it's being done all under the disguise of fear."

At 37 minutes.....

Scott Ritter Marine Corps (ret.), Former Chief UN Weapons Inspector

The more that the public is afraid the more that is being asked to give, such as the Patriot Act II enhancements to the Patriot Act, then the budget is being drained by billions (Bush asks for an increase in the defense budget, he even states on the film...."the largest increase in a generation"......

Chalmers Johnson Author, Sorrows of Empire

"Prepetual wars, loss of liberties, lack of trust in Government because they don't tell the truth, terrible as these are, they don't spell the end of the United States, financial bankrupcy does."

"The rigged American economy can't go on forever."

38 minutes shows charts.....

Max Wolff Department of Economics University of Massachusetts

"That money must be paid back, and that means somewhere down the road Americans will pay taxes and get nothing."

39:45 minutes......

Speaks of our dollar.....Immanuel Wallerstein Department of Sociology, Yale University

"And the bases of US economic strength today is the fact that the dollar is the reserve currency all over the world and that is a political phenomenon.

If tomorrow, and I think it will be tomorrow or the next day, that these other Countries decide that it makes no economical sense to them, as it never made political sense, then the USA goes down the drain. It goes down the drain in our real standard of living."

(Due to the Government Shutdown as well as putting the rest of the world on edge with the Debt Ceiling debates and near happening the other Countries are most definity moving in this direction.)

40:15 minutes.....

Greg Speter Executive Director of National Priorities Project

Predicted accuately what is happening.....

Once ago, thank you. I have to write down notes as my memory is failing terribly so I appreciate the "cliff notes" that you provide very very much. I have a notebook filled with my own but am having the slowest C2 day I've EVER had. I cannot open the video since it crashed right about 37 minutes:) Besides, it's time for me to listen rather than rant. CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE~ Tuesday November 05th!

A friend of mine sent me this not long ago. And I am still amazed at the horror of it all. It hurts my heart so much, I could not watch it again. When will they ever learn? I am so afraid that we will never get our country back. :( But I keep praying that things will get better. I still keep praying.

I had put this on 22 days ago, but glad to learn that someone else is also forwarding this film. Matters not how you saw it, but that you did. I think it is a very valuable piece, and even though it might make the heart hurt, we must know what we are dealing with. These chains could be broken quickly if everyone achieved an awareness, for I think for many they are still living in this illusion....and in the illusion they do not see the train heading right at them. Coming too allows one to step off the track.
