Shoplifting three belts. Siphoning gas from an 18-wheeler. Selling a single crack rock. These are just some of the offenses that can get you sentenced to spend your entire life in prison, until the day you die, with no chance of ever getting out.

Please sign the Petition at the Visit Site.......

This is a subject that too few are aware of or addressing. Many just assume those who are behind bars deserve everything they get. But with the War on Drugs, the Get Tough on Crime, policies in the past 30 to 40 years have not given us justice but instead have broken families up forever over non violent crimes.

Mandatory sentences are not working in case after case that has been reviewed the sentencing judge said on the record that he or she opposed the mandatory sentence as too severe but their hands were tied.

No doubt that our justice system needs some reform - we have more people in prison than most any other country and what good has that done? Many thanks...

S & N - pedophiles, rapist and gangsta/bankstas are WAY under represented in jail, especially if they are WASP's. Senator Ravel of Florida, an alcoholic and cocaine druggie gets rehab, jail time NONE, Jamie dimond and company are fined 13 billion which only helps them and their cronie/crooks, jail time NONE! Mitt moneyr/Romney not paying his right percent of taxes and am sure he is one of the Swiss bank hide the money con man runs for president, same goes for John McCain and his Lincoln savings and loan ripoff of thousands and 34 people committed suicide. Again, no criminal charges and he run for president as well. Oh the list goes on and on but am sure you get the picture. The only justice left is that which your money can buy your way out of. Justice is not only blind but deaf and mute as well.

Well, lets try it in small portions Lol! :
In Wisconsin they are making Whacky Laws and this new one just blows your mind! They are fast tracking one that any mining tools or equipment in the woods, if you go 600 yards near it, you not only can be fined you also get arrested! This equipment can be a rain gauge, fishing net, simple movable road sign, you see where this goes? you walk into the woods in Wisconsin and The Mining Co. can and Will get you arrested! With the NDAA laws, you can be held without bond hearing because you are considered a "terrorist"

Indefinite Detention, ugh this is dreadful. one of the reasons B and I made the Group. And I will make a thread in there with this as a new starting point in it. Understand my friend Will Potter, well, he is one of many of my friends. But he wrote a book, I have posted it on care2. I think, let me look, anyhow. About us activists being targeted and arrested and how many of us are being held under non-violent NDAA and indefinite detention laws. All this started with the Patriot Act signed in with Pres. Bush. They have gotten MUCH WORSE. Poor Will, he gotten so famous now lol. Good and Bad thing, we worked so hard on the ag-gag bills and now he is all over the world and actually out there with the Sea Sheperds right now. Pretty cool, but oh so famous hahaha. One day, I said to him "Will, omg i am such a fan of yours" and HE Said he wss honored! hahahah! he is a total geek, But the point is, there is tens of thousands of people being held in jails and prisons right now.

you see dand1, its annoying. but hilarious. we all deal with this every day. pathetic fools, think monitoring and following and bullying people are going to force people into compliance, all it does is gets people angry and makes them want to work harder at getting the people in power out of office and strip them of their "power"

Thanks Dandelion...signed with pleasure...unfortunately Australia is going the same way: Zero Tolerance..Three Strikes and you're out...the same old BS..some one gets sentenced and they scream to lenient..we need more Justice than that..

Dandelion G. (401)

I'm sorry to learn that Australia is going down the same road. People will not like it when their family member does something stupid and they never get to see them again. These 3 strikes laws people think will be used solely for a murder or rape, it isn't, it's been used for someone being mentally ill or having an addiction and steal a pizza, one strike, broke into a store and stole a TV, second strike, then stole a jacket to stay warm, 3rd strike you are gone for life. Certainly they need to take some responsibility for their actions, but one gives them rehabilitation first, get them a skill so they can find employment, monitor them to make sure everything is going well. Pay a fine, serve a short sentence but life never ever to be released. No that isn't justice that is insane.

Is this judge or law insane? I do not blame those who steal because they are hungry, but I shall not forgive for those who have lots and still take more and more with greeds and those corrupt.

This is an effrontery to justice! People who commit such minor and nonviolent offenses shouldn't be given life sentences without parole! It seems like there are two different justice systems in our Country- that system which disproportionately gives to harsh a sentence (even life!) for those who are either minorities or are poor (and to poor to hire a private attorney) and those that are affluent or have connections with the right people and can hire the most expensive lawyers and literally get away with murder and not even get sentenced! Signed and shared this petition on Facebook! Thanks Dandelion for shining the light on such injustice!

In the 1980's and 1990's some sociologists viewed the tough on crime policies which transformed victimless nonviolent crimes previously viewed as minor misdemeanors into felonies, required mandatory minimum sentences so no room for uniquely appropriate justice, crack cocaine as worse than powder cocaine, and three strikes as a retaliatory wave against affirmative action policies and other efforts for economic justice and/or a subtle form of genocide intended to lock away as many persons of color during primary years of progeneration to reduce/slow the related birthrates to prolong the years of white majorities.

So many individual stories of injustice....

Yes Dandelion, it certainly is a sad state of affairs..once the noises start..it's so hard to stop..a real treat for the Politicians..give the people what they want..attitude prevails..so they tighten laws..give the police more powers..what better way to control the masses and better still....they asked for it..my motto is "Politicians..don't encourage them - it goes to their head"

Signed. Outrageous and unjust. Especially when rapists get off by dragging the victim's reputation and life thru the mud, or judges think the victim was too sexy, or boys will be boys or when the rich and famous get off with warnings or have a friendly judge with a get out of jail ruling.
