Nestlé Makes Sweeping Animal Welfare Policy Change Following MFA Investigation

Animals  (tags: Nestle, cows, pigs, chickens, petitions, new policy, Mercy For Animals )

- 1272 days ago -
Nestlé's new industry-leading policy will reduce the suffering of millions of animals each year and hopefully inspire other food providers to implement and enforce similar animal welfare requirements. TWO PETITIONS are within the story, clearly seen.

I realize this isn't perfect and doesn't help in all places, but for the animals that it will help this is a good step in the correct direction. Nestle still has a long way to go in my book before I will feel good about that name, but it's very important to know that this step has been taken.

I could not find the McDonald petition. I signed the Walmart petition and would have done so without the horrid, disgusting cruelty shown in the video. I do not watch such things because it is so disturbing. I have no need of seeing those dear creatures suffer and think it is disgusting to show such atrocities. Words of cruelty are enough to convince me to sign petitions for the safety of animals. I wish there was some warning before showing such a video. If our ancestors ate animals to survive, I don't think there is anything wrong with eating meat. Using cruel measures to kill them is another story. It is not an easy question... intellectually, I don't believe it is wrong to eat meat, but causing suffering of animals is emotionally draining for many of us.

Sheryl G (364)
Monday August 25, 2014, 7:54 am
The petition for the MacDonald's one had an additional step or two. Had to click onto the box that said Take Action had the photo of the chickens in it, then the page that came up had links one going to Change dot org. To make it easier for others to find here is the direct link to the McDonald's petition.
Urge McDonalds To Stop Torturing Hens For Egg McMuffins

I agree with some of you on this thread that I too can't watch the torture and mistreatment of animals but as I did not make the site nor the links to the, what I felt were good petitions, I sent it around this time. Normally I do not choose such petitions with gruesome photos or videos. I thought that at least one had an option to watch or not to watch the video's if they so choose.

Caitlin M (104)
Monday August 25, 2014, 8:21 am
I went to the McDonalds petition and signed from your direct route, Dandelion. Thanks. I had taken a couple of the steps but once I saw another cruel video start (which I had been blindsided into watching for a while--before the Walmart one was shown) I left the site. As I said before, being blindsided by cruel pictures is not my cup of tea. Of course I signed out of it once I found that to be happening. No excuses for not telling people of the cruelty coming up is there? From now on, I hope you'll just let us know... or give the option of direct route to the petitions. I'm not trying to single you out, Dandelion, I'm hoping all with consider not exposing everyone to the cruelty. If they want to show these things, let people know it's about to happen so that a choice can be made. Thanks, Dandelion.

You are welcome Penny....Yes, I suppose I could of warned Caitlin, as I said I don't normally post with graphic video or photos so the thought really didn't cross my mind as I didn't even watch the video's and posted it for the story about Nestle, but mentioned the petitions as they were attached to the article. I only quickly went onto the links and signed, not bothering to watch. I didn't realize they were so violent until people started to mention it. My apologies again for anyone being grossed out. Perhaps that is why I stick mostly to the political stories.....and sign mostly the animals others post.

Signed both. Of course this cruelty has long been known and ignored by Nestle and other companies, so i don't believe they were all of a sudden made aware by this particular video and then decided to act like a human. But i'm certainly not saying the campaign and latest video by Mercy for Animals didn't make a difference and it is great to hear of this step in the right direction.

I too don't like seeing these horrific images, but at the same time think these types of videos should be played often, ideally in the MSM, in order to get through the wall of indifference and ignorance in our society. I'll never understand why there's such hoopla made over something like Michael Vick's actions, but this much greater cruelty on a massive scale goes on 24/7 without hardly a mention in the media.

I guess it comes down to people having the attitude that if an animal is "my" pet then it must be treated well, but if an animal is "my" sandwich then a lifetime of suffering is acceptable.

Thanks Bryan for your seems to be as you say, outrage depending upon if it's eaten or not. As I do often remind people, we are what we eat. So if we eat an animal that was tortured, in pain and suffering then all that negative energy goes into the animal, and when we eat that animal, that negative energy goes into us. People wonder why they don't feel good and why so many people act out in violence.....I don't, look at what they eat.
