1 out of every 100 Americans is behind bars. The U.S. spends $80 billion a year on incarceration. The passage of major legislation now would start the process of transforming the system and millions of lives.

Done, thanks Dandelion. How about putting some REAL criminals...those (politicians, corporations...who are who the rights of personhood) who have committed and continue to commit crimes against humanity and Earth.?!

I could write a thick book about how our justice system is anything but. This country has so many problems, I fear that only extremely drastic measures will have any chances of fixing them - and I don't want to think about that--

When I sent this to Dandelion, I wrote the following: In case you didn't get this and you are as sick of the American system of incarceration for profit as I am, here's a petition to get some prison reform done. Please distribute if you agree.

I hope more people will get this distributed, too. Those outside America probably know better than many Americans how primitive we are being by incarcerating so many people...often for minor infractions of stupid laws. I also believe incarceration has become the "lynching tree" that was once commonly used by whites to get rid of blacks. Of course I signed the petition. I am so angry at how arrogant and intolerant of difference the USA has shown itself to be. I denounce and renounce the USA -- Out damned spot!

THE MINUTE THE USA PRIVATIZED PRISONS PUTTING PERSONS IN PRISON MADE THEM PART OF THEIR PROFIT MARGIN. IT IS CRIMINAL AND IT IS WRONG. Add in solitary confinement for years and it is inhumane. Signed and Noted TY Dandelion

Thank you all, there are a few things that should not be privatized and that is education, health care, and prisons.

Thanks Caitlin for your comment and as for the petition I too had received it in my private email and also from you so was something I most certainly was going to place onto C2. The situation around race and prisons, education, and the health careless system are high on my priorities list. All 3 have a major impact on our lives and who we are as a people.

But in order to do better in those three areas we need to funnel our tax monies into supporting those which it is then therefore crucial that we stop spending so much in the Military Industrial Complex. For every dollar that is feeding the war machine it is not going into the health, education, and well being of this Country. Keeping many of our men, and now women, locked away or fighting in the war machine, and fewer that can receive a higher level of education is a sick society.

We must acknowledge this for what it is........

The prison system is a cash cow and money talks, might as well call it " guilty until proven innocent ".
