If we do not do something to fix the glaring inequities in this economy, the pitchforks are going to come for us. No society can sustain this kind of rising inequality.

Don't forget the tar and feathers! I wonder why the other 1%ers haven't figured this out yet?

Good evening and thank you for this article - which I read and noted- WOW Even though he is one of the ultra rich- he realized if this continues -the revolution is growing- and the inmates are ready take over the institution- so the funds can be equally divided and the poor and middle class are not sentenced to death by the lacking health coverage for all of the citizens of AMERICA - sincerely KAY M.

We are all in the same boat. If the poor sink the rich go down with them. When are they going to realize this?

I couldn't find a date, though internal evidence indicates the article is at least six months old. Since then, he has become the figurehead for a new grass-roots organization which probably deserves our attention. Shamingly, I can't remember what it is called, but of course Google remembers everything.

You have to admire Mr. Hanauer. This man is not only ultra successful, but highly intelligence. The problem is most of the 0.01% won't read this article much less understand it.

I think Don he is speaking directly to them, these articles are more for us, to let us know he is doing what he can to help.

Thanks for an interesting read Dandelion.....How very noble of Mr Amazon especially if he does practise what he preaches: https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Amazon.com/salaries this link must be out of date because I can not see a minimum of $15.00 per hour for any employee........and just the fact that he is talking per hour is a concern to me......that implies "Casual" employees to me.......which still means the risk of uncertain employment.

The other statement that he made that made me laugh is this phrase "Smaller Governments" how the less informed really fall for this.......most think it is actually cutting the number of Politicians we have to contend with but "smaller government" actually means getting rid of more Public Servants.....which he did state...... those that process......mediaide, food stamps......etc.......

Mr Amazon is coming to Australia soon.......looks like he is also chasing "rich clients" as well:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-05-31/minimum-wage-how-does-australia-compare/7461794

But he will have to pay his employees much more than our American counterparts....much more for logistics and have a smaller "comsumer base" and I wish him well on his new endevour.......

As for me......I wont be buying from him.......I start at a local level (Small Business Owners that employ more people than these Multis combined).....and work up from there......it's called..

TRICKLE UP ECONOMICS.......and it serves me well......

Hanauer's letter dates from 2014, and instead of pitchforks we witnessed the rise of the Trump dynasty. That doesn't make anything Hanauer says less true, only more urgent, because Trump and the sock-puppets of the 1%, the GOP, is fully committed to making a pitchfork uprising, or any uprising however peaceful, impossible.

There will always be some who see the truth,if the income inequality is allowed to go on for much longer both rich and poor will suffer.

I also shop in local stores, I use the internet shopping only as a last resort if I really must have it and can't find it in a local store or even a store in some of the larger communities not far from me.

Mr Hanauer has done various pieces from Ted Talks as well as other articles. I thought that it was at least worthy to explore his thoughts and as this article had no date that I could find I wasn't sure if this was one of his older pieces or a more current one. But as Lona points out, it is still relevant.
