The bill requires all owners to surrender their "pit bulls" within 90 days of the effective date of the proposed law. The bill is unequivocal that the dog warden "shall" euthanize all pit bulls within 10 days of their surrender. Take Action

No, mandatory spay/neuter is too expensive and difficult to enfocrce.

2% (2 votes)
No, mandatory spay/neuter just means people will dump their animals or stop getting licenses.

11% (14 votes)
Yes, but only if the spay/neuter is free or low cost.

28% (35 votes)
Yes, it may take time and education, but eventually these laws do reduce overpopulation and shelter intake and euthanasia rates

44% (54 votes)
Yes, these laws work.

15% (18 votes)

Voted - this is something I feel really strongly about - spay/neuter is so obviously the most effective and simple solution. It should be more affordable - in the long run surely the cost would be offset by the money saved in animal control measures.
As for forcing people to surrender their animals - regardless of their complete innocence of wrongdoing - and euthanasing simply on the grounds of breed - that is simply horrifying!

This makes me sick.

How is it that this is deemed constitutional, lawful, etc.? WHY are law-abiding citizens who are RESPONSIBLE pet parents with INNOCENT dogs paying the price for criminals, etc., who choose to treat these dogs bad?!?!?

Here's my favorite part: If an officer has probable cause to believe that a dog is a pit bull, the officer may apply for a search warrant. After obtaining a search warrant, an officer shall seize the dog and transfer the dog to the dog warden, who shall euthanize the dog within 10 days.

Now, most people can't properly identify a TRUE American Pit Bull Terrier. I've been around tons of pits and I'm involved in pit rescue - and I STILL have problems sometimes. Ugh! And what if you have, say a black lab, and the officer just don't like your stupid black lab. Will they claim it's a "pit bull type dog", take it and euthanize it?

Yes, this law for one is completely absurd because anyone with an ounce of brains realizes breed specific legislation makes things no safer than before and also the way they're wanting to state the law, it gives the officers way too much latitude in what they're allowed to do legally and you basically have zero rights in the matter as well as the poor dog who's being put down because of human stupidity.

Ohio State Representative Tyrone Yates ought to surrender himself to be euthanized for proposing this law. This is pure discrimination against a particular breed of dog.

TY, Cristina.

I am so tired of these morons taking these animals from loving homes and euthanizing them just because a couple of stupid people have made them look like mean evil dogs!!! this has got to be stopped, we live in America and we should be allowed to own any type of dog we want to as long as we take of them and are responsible owners

But let him try to step over it and see if I don't trun it on him yes buddy I sure would. And I don't see why they can tell you what type of dog you can have anyway. Sounds more like commounest every day!! do as they say or What? This is BULL!!! and it needs to stop now stupid Idiots!!! Thanks Cristina

Yorkie is too yappy, cocker is too stupid, Water Spniel chews on rocks, Rottie looks mean, Lab wagged his tail too hard, happy dogs jump too high! Oh! I know! The Mixed Breed has Bad Breath and Licks Too Much!!! Come on people!

This just proves that people are ignorant. I had the most awesome fawn pitty (died of parvo). She was the sweetest dog! She slept with me with her muzzle next to my ear every night. Roxanne (and yes I would call her like the song!) was attacked by a lab one day when I was walking her. Rox was so afraid that she peed all over herself! The owner had the audacity to try to blame the fight on my dog (just because she was a pit) until the neighbor came over and told her that it was her dog that attacked and that Rox did not even fight back!

I live in Ohio... some pretty ignorant people we have here! I have never had a pit, but the ones I've been around have been loving family dogs. I cannot imagine the grief owners would go through having their pets taken away to be killed!!! BSL is BS!!

I also live in Ohio, and can't believe I live in such a cruel state where peoples' family member(s) could be murdered because of their breed. I don't own a pit bull but I know how I would feel if they were going to kill my dog. I would move out of Ohio, because I would let no one kill my dog. This is a complete outrage and I hope this bill gets run into the ground quickly.

BAN THE MAN NOT THE DOG. YOU CAN NOT JUST TAKE PEOPLES PETS AWAY WHEN THEY HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING THATS LIKE TAKING ONE OF THEIR CHILDREN IT IS NOT FAIR OR RIGHT. SOME ONE COME AND TRY TO TAKE MY DOGS JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT WHAT THEY WANT THEM TO BE WE WILL BE FIGHTING.I HOPE PEOPLE STICK UP FOR THEIR RIGHTS

PEACE BE TO YOU (143)

Oh No! It's the stupid people that should be banned, not the breed!
