The plastic industry is big business, so how can taking a no-plastic pledge possibly make any difference? While it is true that you can't control the production or use of many plastic products, you CAN easily refuse to use these 3 things:

1.Plastic bags
2.Plastic bottles
3.Plastic straws
These are the most common items responsible for choking the life out of our precious oceans and wildlife. And since we are interconnected, what happens to the ecosystem affects us all.

Take the no-plastic pledge and do this instead:

1.Replace plastic bags with environmentally friendly bags such as cloth or even a recycled plastic one to use repeatedly.
2.Replace plastic water bottles with reusable ones like stainless steel. Stop buying bottled water and buy a filtering system for your tap. Not only will this save the environment, it will save you money, and the water from home filtered devices has been proven to be more pure.
3.Replace plastic straws with bio-degradable or glass straws. Even better just sip instead of suck.

I reuse all of the plastic items: bags, straws, and bottles. In fact, I have to look on Freecycle for plastic bags because I don't use them for shopping.

I've been using cloth bags for years, and here's a tip: look for them at the thrift stores, especially on half price days, they are much less costly to begin with. I have also had a whole-house reverse osmosis filter for some years; it is self-cleaning. My plumber warned me it would make my water "almost too clean to drink," and I said, "Yup." I have not used any kind of straw since the last time i was in the hospital for surgery, I think that was 1990. I almost feel like I am cheating signing the pledge - but I did anyway,

These are sooooooo easy to give up!!! I see women in Sprouts with many many plastic bags in their carts. I just don't get it. I want to smack them actually. Everyone has cloth bags and most are cheap. AND buy one refillable glass and skip the bottled crap that's worse than tap anyway. AND lots of the refillables come with straws. What's the big deal??? JUST DO IT

I also HATE plastic bags. I have so many reusable bags, in both my vehicles and refuse to use plastic if for some reason I don't have enough. I tell them paper!!! I have pledged and will continue
