Last week, millions of us watched — proud, inspired and fired up — into the wee hours of the morning, as Texas Senator Wendy Davis performed an epic 13-hour filibuster to block a bill that could shut down nearly every abortion clinic in the state.

Politicians playing doctor have been pushing sweeping anti-abortion legislation all across the country for months, but Wendy's heroic filibuster turned the national spotlight on women's health, and blocked the bill from passing. But almost immediately after, Texas Governor Rick Perry called a special legislative session to push the bill through. Today, thousands of people are rallying at the Capitol in Austin to stand up for women everywhere. So while the country's attention is turned to Texas, we need to let lawmakers know that we're standing with Texas families against these attacks on women's health.

Sign the statement now and a champion for women's health will read it while legislators are debating the bill — to make sure Texas lawmakers hear us loud and clear:

“To the Texas Legislature: The legislation attempting to virtually ban abortion in Texas is an outrageous interference between women and their doctors. We won't stand for this attack on women's health – be it Texas or anywhere else.”

9,641 people support this campaign. Help us get to 10,000!

An estimated 5,000 protesters in Austin, TX today. Make no mistake the republicans do have the votes for this, and it will probably be passed in the next few days, but it has brought things out in the open.
Signed and shared

Already signed.

Here is what I wrote on another petition blasting Perry:

Dear Gov. Perry,

I stand with Sen. Wendy Davis and am pissed that you would call another special session, after she successfully filibustered.

Your blatant disregard for women's reproductive rights is disgusting. We won't stand for this.

Gov. Perry: You act like a "Führer".

Don't even think about running for President. USA voters have already rejected you. Please step down/retire as Governor Teaxass.

Thank you,
_____

The 20-week limit is just the camel's nose in the tent. Next, anti-choice activists will call for the ban to start at an earlier stage, or put more restrictions on clinics, until abortion is effectively banned. Then women will have to sneak out of Texas, or find an unregulated underground clinic. Remember Dr. Gosnell?

Dear Texans.
Please let this be a lesson. It took a very brave determined woman to call out the "MALE" legislators.and your nit wit governor.( He hardly covered himself in glory during the 2012 race.)May I ask . who ,on the face of the earth voted for this. turkey. I feel like saying that you got what you deserved ,but I guess that we can all get fooled once.,but you know what is said when it happens again!?Keep up the fight ladies, and your male supporters and show this twit and cohorts the door next time. Women are NOT second class citizens and should demand that thelegislators get the message. Good Luck to you all. and NEVER GIVE UP>
