Republicans have said many absurd things about Obamacare over the last few years, but Ted Cruz has taken "Obama Derangement Syndrome" to a new level with this one. According to Cruz, funding Obamacare is like appeasing Hitler:
"Look, we saw in Britain, Neville Chamberlain, who told the British people, 'Accept the Nazis,' " said Cruz. " 'Yes, they'll dominate the continent of Europe, but that's not our problem. Let's appease them. Why? Because it can't be done. We can't possibly stand against them.' And in America there were voices that listened to that. I expect those same pundits who say [defunding Obamacare] can't be done, had it been in the 1940s, we would have listened to them."
Really? So in Ted Cruz's mind, if Obamacare is funded, then President Obama will... invade Poland? Attack France? Uh, okay.
It's one thing for political rhetoric to get heated, but it's another thing for it to be taken to such an absurd, outrageous level.
Maybe Cruz simply doesn't know his history, so we'll make it easy for him:
•Obamacare = a policy that will allow tens millions to gain health care coverage
•Appeasing Hitler = a policy that led to a war that killed tens of millions
It seems simple, but maybe Ted Cruz needs some help.
Send him a message, and let him know how you feel about his Obamacare/Hitler comparison.
It's not even that it is outrageous. It is simply historically incorrect. A guy from Princeton and Harvard should at least know his history. He used Chamberlain in the 1940's, well Chamberlain was out in the spring of 1940 and Churchill was the Prime Minister. WWII was fought from 1938 to 1945. Chamberlain did try appeasement that was in 1932-33 right after Hitler took the Chancellery in Germany. I don't really mind people attempting to make an historical connection, when there is one and when it is real. People that must make their arguments with Hitler have lost before the word leaves their mouths. I grant that Cruz attended two of the finest schools in the US, not that he is educated.

If Carol still wants her champion of choice (cruz) to govern (rule) her so be it, but this keep this dufus douchebag away from the rest of sane individuals. Let sanity prevail!

Yes, President Obama has a track record of usurping powers which are not his as President. Congress is to declare war, yet he circumvented them and destroyed Libya. Obamacare would be funded by capital which is either borrowed (increasing the U.S. debt and stealing from future generations of Americans) or stolen through taxation (involuntary "contributions.") Neither is honorable.
The program is socialist since you cannot opt out of participating and supporting it. The United States is supposed to be a republic, not a socialist/communist state featuring lots of state-run programs "for the good of all." If you want to talk history, look at the Soviet Union, East Germany, and other stellar examples of what happens when you go socialist or further to the left. A Swedish couple, Annie and Christer Johansson, have been separated from their son Dominic for over two years because they didn't want to send him to public school. Socialism is violent and therefore wrong, thus the comparison to Hitler and his National Socialism - Nationalsozialismus.

It should be noted that Ted Cruz doesn't have to worry about healthcare insurance as he gets the very best thanks to his position. Health care reform and the Nazis is one of the standard Conservative calls shows a gross ignorance about World War II in Europe and Hitler, even in his speech he missed completely that Chamberlain brought Britain time to re-arm and fight the Germans and the moral of Green eggs and ham. Cruz’s filibuster was pure pantomime for the gawking delight of the radical tea party base, and yet another example of why the GOP would do well to amputate that festering wing of the party with extreme prejudice.
The Affordable Care Act is an act of democratic redress. Passed, signed, enacted and upheld. Ted Cruz and the Tea Party are resorting to tyrannical means in trying to overthrow democratically enacted law. What does that make them? I think the analogies of a certain German political party of the 1930's comes to mind, but then I don't want to end up with Godwin's laws.

This is a plan for healthcare for all Americans, I hope.
I do not understand why it is not possible. Canada has national health and many countries in Europe.
It is not going to come about in the same way in the States, but I do hope it will be achieved, and opponents that are served to undermine efforts to achieve this, will be overcome.
I don't want to see anyone suffer, or lose employees, or face premiums they can't afford, or lose business.
Nor do I want vast corporate interests and drug industries dominating the need for essential health care.
I don't see why people should profit and fill their coffers at the expense of many.
The plan to ensure coverage for all is an uphill battle and will take some time to "refine".
I don't know how it was done in Canada, but it's obvious why it hasn't happened here.
Call it Obamacare, call it what you want, people need healthcare. Idon't know what the details are at present, and I don't expect everyone to be enthusiastic. It's probably messy because of all the obstruction.
On the other hand, if government -fed - would finance this through the nation's taxes, and help citizens, who cannot afford private insurance, we could move along with full coverage.
If states, private sector, and politicians keep thinking of themselves and causing deadlock, shame on them.

Plea to Canada. Please take this "dough faced" turkey back. You Must miss him.I for one really would, and please take the new 3d Reich back along as a bonus.
To those who do not want health care. are you aware that your hero!!. Cruz has universal Government funded health care. I did not hear a word from him regarding his benefits.
What an hypocrit!.

"Ted Cruz and the Tea Party are resorting to tyrannical means in trying to overthrow democratically enacted law."
The problem with this statement is that laws were not to be democratically created. In this republic, the laws were intended to be very basic - common law - do no harm to others. Violating another's rights is a crime. If there is a victim, there is a crime. If there is no victim, there is no crime. This simple system has been so corrupted that laws now in effect violate our natural rights, the constitution, and even contradict each other - requiring lots of "interpretation." It wasn't meant to be this complicated. Complicating it has led to loopholes and legalized wrongdoing for those who write the "laws."

"Call it Obamacare, call it what you want, people need healthcare."
We all need to eat - should we call upon the government? Why not - they could fill us with those GMOs they support so unendingly from both sides of the aisle. Thanks, Obama.
What is really at issue here is the high cost of health care and insurance. If we could pay something reasonable for each, no one would want "help" so desperately. The "health" care sector has been so messed with that the costs of care in the U.S. far exceeds those in other countries. If you can have surgeries done for lots less in Thailand and Mexico, that means that the issue is the location you are having the surgery in (and its regulations/policies) rather than the cost of the surgery itself. Let's undo the wrongs done to our system rather than perpetrate more wrongs on top of them.

Sara V. Is Christ too much of a hippie socialist for you too? Feeding the masses, healing the ill with no pay...The right claims to be a Christian party...that would be a Socialist party. Not Capitalistic Jesus. There are all kinds of socialism, good and bad, just as there are all kinds of capitalism, good and bad. The U.S. was never meant to be a Christian nation either until it's convenient for the GOP to appeal to their base with a warped version of Christianity. Charlatans they are.

Exploiting ill health for profit as a commodity on Wall Street is a sick system. Can we at least have a health system as good as Cuba's? People should not have to worry about going bankrupt if they become ill.
