For too long, reproductive rights in this country have been chipped away by extremist politicians who think nothing of putting political ideology above women's health, rights, and safety. Since 2011, state legislatures have passed nearly 200 restrictions that interfere with a woman's personal decisions about her health and future.

It's time to reverse the trend.

Under the Women's Health Protection Act, states could no longer impose oppressive and medically unnecessary requirements on reproductive health care providers. They could not pass laws that restrict medication abortion or force women to undergo an invasive vaginal ultrasounds.

Today, Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin), and Barbara Boxer (D-California), and Representatives Judy Chu (D-California), Lois Frankel (D-Florida), and Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) announced that they will be introducing the Women's Health Protection Act of 2013--a bill that will enforce and protect the constitutional right to safe and legal abortion, no matter what state a woman lives in.

Mr. Smith, Do I really have to tell you how angry I am at your constant attacks on my rights as a woman? My female forebears fought long and hard so that we, their daughters, could have these rights. I will not give them up without another long, hard fight.
