The leftists at Newsweek have done an abrupt about-face, running a cover story that is sure to cause quite a buzz this week. Under the picture of our Dear Leader are the words, “Hit the Road, Barack: Why We Need a New President.” (h/t: Newsbusters)

In the cover story, Niall Ferguson — a British historian and economist — gives many reasons why Obama should be a one-term president:

In his inaugural address, Obama promised “not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth.” He promised to “build the roads and bridges, the electric grids, and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together.” He promised to “restore science to its rightful place and wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its cost.” And he promised to “transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age.” Unfortunately the president’s scorecard on every single one of those bold pledges is pitiful.

In an unguarded moment earlier this year, the president commented that the private sector of the economy was “doing fine.” Certainly, the stock market is well up (by 74 percent) relative to the close on Inauguration Day 2009. But the total number of private-sector jobs is still 4.3 million below the January 2008 peak. Meanwhile, since 2008, a staggering 3.6 million Americans have been added to Social Security’s disability insurance program. This is one of many ways unemployment is being concealed.

Furguson then goes on to make a detailed case for why the Obama presidency has been such a colossal bust, citing everything from the failed stimulus, persistent unemployment and our exploding entitlement system, to Obama’s myopic focus on socialized medicine and his systematic foreign policy mistakes. (Furguson’s full article is available at The Daily Beast.)

[T]he total number of private-sector jobs is still 4.3 million below the January 2008 peak. Meanwhile, since 2008, a staggering 3.6 million Americans have been added to Social Security’s disability insurance program. This is one of many ways unemployment is being concealed.

In his fiscal year 2010 budget—the first he presented—the president envisaged growth of 3.2 percent in 2010, 4.0 percent in 2011, 4.6 percent in 2012. The actual numbers were 2.4 percent in 2010 and 1.8 percent in 2011; few forecasters now expect it to be much above 2.3 percent this year.

Unemployment was supposed to be 6 percent by now. It has averaged 8.2 percent this year so far. Meanwhile real median annual household income has dropped more than 5 percent since June 2009. Nearly 110 million individuals received a welfare benefit in 2011, mostly Medicaid or food stamps.

Welcome to Obama’s America: nearly half the population is not represented on a taxable return—almost exactly the same proportion that lives in a household where at least one member receives some type of government benefit. We are becoming the 50–50 nation—half of us paying the taxes, the other half receiving the benefits.

And all this despite a far bigger hike in the federal debt than we were promised. According to the 2010 budget, the debt in public hands was supposed to fall in relation to GDP from 67 percent in 2010 to less than 66 percent this year. If only. By the end of this year, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), it will reach 70 percent of GDP. These figures significantly understate the debt problem, however. The ratio that matters is debt to revenue. That number has leapt upward from 165 percent in 2008 to 262 percent this year, according to figures from the International Monetary Fund. Among developed economies, only Ireland and Spain have seen a bigger deterioration.

He then gives his reasons why the Romney ticket — and Paul Ryan in particular — could be the right team to defeat Obama and steer our nation in a more prosperous direction.

He is one of only a handful of politicians in Washington who is truly sincere about addressing this country’s fiscal crisis….But one thing is clear. Ryan psychs Obama out. This has been apparent ever since the White House went on the offensive against Ryan in the spring of last year. And the reason he psychs him out is that, unlike Obama, Ryan has a plan—as opposed to a narrative—for this country. [...]

The voters now face a stark choice. They can let Barack Obama’s rambling, solipsistic narrative continue until they find themselves living in some American version of Europe, with low growth, high unemployment, even higher debt—and real geopolitical decline.

Or they can opt for real change: the kind of change that will end four years of economic underperformance, stop the terrifying accumulation of debt, and reestablish a secure fiscal foundation for American national security.

Be sure to read the whole article. Ferguson’s article does a fantastic job comparing Obama’s many failures to the strengths and experience of the Romney/Ryan team.

Of course, I don’t believe for a second that the editors of Newsweek actually believe what Furguson has written. They’ve made their editorial position more than clear over the past few years, like when they stooped to kiss the hand of Obama, comparing him to Lincoln. Or when they lauded his presidency with the declaration, “We’re All Socialists Now.” Or when Newsweek assistant managing editor Evan Thomas told Chris Matthews that Obama is “sort of God.” Or when they ran a cover story calling Obama “god of all things.”

I think Newsweek is so broke and desperate for sales, they’ll say anything to boost attention. I fully expect them to get back to their servile boot-licking next week.

RELATED: Hot Air‘s Ed Morrissey notes that the Super-PAC founded by Romney aides deliver the same message as Furguson’s article in a new 30-second ad called “Debate.”

"Debate" Restore our Future

The debate this fall… Who can turn around America’s economy?

Mitt Romney spent his life in the private sector, creating thousands of jobs. Barack Obama wasted $800 billion on a failed stimulus and the jobless rate went up.

Romney cut spending and balanced budgets without raising taxes. Obama has added $5 trillion in debt.

Proven leadership to fix the economy. Mitt Romney.

It's what the people say by the majority who ........hits the road....and as the Republican/Teabaggers are doing the same as to lies and general B.S. , Mitt and Paul are on that some road to the bridge to nowhere just like $arah and McCain in the last election. So which corporate controls newsweek I wonder ....

Long and kind of boring read but thanks for sharing the wishful thinking of teabaggers with them for sure :-) ...

That is the majority of the peoples votes and that of ..the electorial vote :-) ....

You can't screw up what was a disastor left behind by Dubya...and after that the GOP in Congress...almost anything is an improvement..and the voters will not forget the DUbya years or the last four of the actions of the GOP in Congress ...the numbers ? Give us a break...that's more than equal to your above LOL.....The teabaggers will see to it that Romney my opinion, just as they did the GOP Presidental/V.P. candidates in my opinion.

So tell us again some of the positive about Romney again ? SKip the lies and talking points...little detail would be nice.......oooops, I forget there are none of those are there :-) ........

Thing to me is that all the media want to keep interest going so they have viewers/ the hype for each is ramped up...that's why it kind of a waste of time for any of us to go all LOL over these headlines in whatever publication in my opinion. The things that matter are the lessor headlines and money raised each month...and I guess it would be fair to say that the next few weeks are going to interesting media wise and fun wise in general, in my opinion as each banters for their side. Which come down to another republcian winning or Obama staying. Most of us do recall the last Republcian administration and the current GOP in Congress all too well so I'm banking that is what will matter on election the average voter and that little thing about Romney being high up in the Mormon priesthood religion thing that goes against so many of the other Christian religions will have a big negative impact for a lot of voters..especially those in 'the south' who are wising up to those difference really fast these days....

Jae..Well I guess we will see how much President Bush affected the voters...there are more than you think that wish he was back in there right now! I would go so far as to say over the amount that lost the last time! And Romney's religion won't affect the votes in the least...all people are thinking about now is saving our country!!

Thanks so much John!!

Lots of Tea Party backlash. That's fine but it seems to occur in some sort of timewarp. This article is only a couple months late, but the GOP platform is more than 60 years behind.

We are still the 99% which incorporates the 47%. There's a lot more of us than there are of them.

Romney is kicking most of us in the (should be off limits) areas of sex,(birth control and obligatory parents of the children of rapists) money (Our pocketbooks to fatten his overseas bank accounts) our environment, (that includes housing, vacations and our kids growing up place which is already polluted and Romney told us clearly that he doesn't care about the environment, he's going to take care of us!....still sounds like a threat to me.)

The 99% and the 47 included %, we worry about our kids and about our SELF. The 47% sure can't afford to take care of their Moms and their Pops to whom they have a certain sentimental attachment.

And that's just a piece of the self-centered pie.

We are not ascetics,

Helen Porter (39)
Tuesday October 9, 2012, 2:21 am
It is a law of nature. If you don't take care of yourself first, you can't take care of anybody else effectively.

The enemy, I mean Romney, wants to prevent us by law from taking care of ourselves.

Old news!? What do you consider new!? Sorry JL..gotta disagree with you on it being old news!

Cecilly...As JL said the date is August 2012... old is defined in what a person considers old so what you might think is old I don't. So you don't like the Tea Party...guess you don't like the Constitution, lower taxes, getting the government out of everything they have their noses in and much more then huh!?

Thomas..No I didn't bump my head or any such thing..this article for the 3rd time now is NOT THAT OLD....OK..if it does not interest you then just please move on without comment...just saying it's old is not informative and has no knowledge in the reply at all!

DAVE.....ARTICLE IS NOT OLD...BRING LINK TO YOUR CLAIM....OBAMA DOES NOT DESERVE A SECOND CHANCE...HE IS AS FAR AWAY FROM BEING LIKE REAGAN AS ANYONE COULD EVER IMAGINE...CAPITALIZATION FOR EMPHASIS ONLY....I Want you all to know this article may not be current as in today but it is in fact 7 weeks and 2 days old in case anyone wants to get precise about it! So in fact Thomas you are WRONG!! I have NEVER had anyone make such a BIG issue about an article that was not from today or yesterday....unreal!!

Helen Porter (39)

That old cliche "Me thinks the lady doth protest too much."

Sorta like Romney. He says he wants us to take care of ourselves instead of depending on the government while he threatens a government that will not allow us to take care of ourselves and our children and our grandchildren but will reduce us to slavery......another day older and deeper in debt..,.,,,the government's
taxes taken from the middle class to deposit in over seas bank accounts in the name of Romney.

Hold on to your credit cards. You may have to max them all out to pay taxes, surcharges, and buy a few groceries,

But isn't that the way of compulsive liars? If you reverse everything they say, you may come to the truth.

Helen Porter (39)
Tuesday October 9, 2012, 2:53 am
Then please tell me, how can we take care of ourselves with heavy taxes, an explosion of new born children.,
People aren't going to give up sex. The environment more polluted, the middle class threatened, other countrys offended by his stupid, insulting remarks. Feel free to add many etc.s

Carol D (346)
Tuesday October 9, 2012, 3:09 am
Zee.Romney does not protest too much...Romney only wants to get this country back on track. And I agree with him having people take care of themselves instead of the government taking care of them. The way it is today look at all of the programs where Welfare is holding people captives by giving them practically anything and everything they need or don't need! He wants a country where everyone has the same chance to become whatever it is they want to but by using their own drive and hard work ethics...nothing wrong with that. He wants the Health care system to be overhauled where people can pick their own affordable providers....he wants to get rid of the excess government programs that are costing money and not doing anything worthwhile and combining others to cut costs..he wants a strong military which I agree with..not like it is now with Obama cutting many things for the military. There are many more things he wants to do for the betterment of the American citizen and this country. He also cares about the Senior citizens and their health care and their retirement finances. As far as birth control..i do not believe in abortion because it is murder of an innocent child...Romney does not agree with far as a rape victim..the child is not the enemy but as a result of a rape the child is the one who would pay with it's life. I would rather see the woman getting counseling and encouragement to keep the child with some help given to her along the way. That would be a win/win situation IMO. Romney will not take money away from Americans to stick in his over seas bank accounts either....he has given a lot of money to many different charities and he has been out there getting his hands dirty in disasters. There is a side to Romney that I don't think you are seeing or want to see but I wish you would at least tray and do some research on him. There is no way that Romney is going to make us slaves....Obama on the other hand...he's working on it!!

Carol D (346)
Tuesday October 9, 2012, 3:24 am
Zee...He is not going to raise taxes!! I just saw a story today where everything Obama was going to raise went WAY up..Romney's was WAY down and now.. I believe it was death tax..Obama's was high! Romney had 0!!

As far as explosion of children...we need to educate the people!! Get the message out there that anyone planning on having sex it is their responsibility to use precautions....these people are not informed Zee and it is so pathetic and sad it makes one want to scream!! By having the government handing out abortion right and left it has control over people and is keeping them down so they have no self esteem to better themselves and crawl out of that hole and say to themselves "I can do this on my own!"

My Grand Daughter was on wasn't the whole ball of wax but it was enough that she felt trapped....well she finally got off of it and she said the day that happened she felt like a weight was off of her shoulders and she felt SO good!!

This is what people need to feel in order to take charge of their lives. I have no problem with people getting a "hand up" but a "hand out" is setting a person up to failure. There is no motivation or incentive to them if they get things handed to them. The welfare system along with others I feel that Romney is going to have them overhauled...we can not afford to keep paying out for welfare.

And the Medicare will still be there plus they are going to work a program where the younger generation will have to work a couple more years before they can qualify for Medicare BUT with the set up they plan to do by the time they get old enough to claim it they will have it! The way it is going now under Obama it would be destroyed in a couple years. Scary thought!

Inbred goal and single motivational path clear from birth.

Bi-racial "product" picked up and packaged by handlers/bundlers/donators of the leftwing/radical/democratic groups seeking further footholdes in America, both with and w/o regard for the erosion from within to follow. A product readied to present to a trusting nation hungry for a return to greatness.

Each in turn, for THEIR personal goal, has helped create this monster ... now closer than ever to HIS goal (the Divided States of AmeriKa vs. Land of the Free), out of control (Executive Privilege when all else fails) and negative falsehood advertisding campaign now their combined last-ditch effort to avoid the impending fail

Even his own handlers facing the truth but hellbent on downplaying our slow and steady erosion from the inside out.

Carol, how well you prove that old adage, There is none so blind as they that won't see. Jonathan Swift.

I wonder if you are not a staunch Republican. Maybe so, maybe not.

I respect your expression of your opinions in fact I'm finding them quite helpful to me. The more you say, the more decided I become. That's a good thing about doubts (and I had many) they point out the weak places in our plans. It takes a good critic, such as yourself, to sometimes point out the weak places so that one can strengthen the plan. by resolving the doubt After reading your attacks, I find myself decided that, though I am an Independent, I must vote a straight Democrat ticket. I don't like doing that but you are convincing me that I must.

Yet, Carol, I hope you are right....most certainly I do if Romney gets elected. I don't think he will. Even if he does not get elected, I hope you are right. Romney is a government leader. He does have much influence. I just hope you're right.

For myself, I must vote straight Democrat. I can return to my preferred Independent when the election is over and hopefully O Bummer gets another 4 years. He's the least of two evils. I must vote for the one whom I believe will cause the least damage. Neither one of them, in my opinion, should be on the ballot.

Thank you, Carol.

Zee, how well you prove that old adage, There is none so blind as they that won't see. Jonathan Swift.

And to that I would have to ditto Zee! You have to do what you feel is right and so do I.I am not willing to sacrifice my country for my children, Grand children and Great Grand children for another 4 years of a dictator who is intent on destroying this country. So many can see what he has done and is trying to do and so many do not...:-( I honestly think that if you can say you are no better or are worse off than you were 4 years ago and you are willing to try ANOTHER 4 years of the same and worse!? I do not understand the logic of that kind of thinking......I really don't! And I certainly hope you do not base your decision on my comments or thinking because if you do then you truly are selling yourself short. There is still more time yet for you to listen and learn about who has done better for this country and who has not and base your decision on that....not what anyone else says! You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.....that quote is so very true in this coming election. Experience is the best teacher....I have experienced the worst 4 years under ANY President that I have ever experienced in my life...and by the way I consider myself and Independent also! I did vote for Clinton...what a mistake that was too! He proved to me he was not who I thought he was...we live and hopefully learn!

You are welcome and Thank You Also!! (((HUGS)))

OK...I yield to temptation, Carol.

You said...."You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.....that quote is so very true in this coming election. "

I can make that horse drink, I'll feed him salt.

And that is so true for the way I think. Most old sayings just don't hold water. I am an iconoclast. (One who attacks established beliefs or customs.) I look at both sides. One of my favorite diversions is to take something I believe to be true, I mean really believe to be true. Then I form arguments against that "false" conclusion. I learn a lot that way, especially if I can find someone who believes my opposite and who is willing to switch sides and debate.

Mark Twain once remarked that we had heard God's side of the story but he hadn't heard the devil's side.
Well, if Mark were around I could give him lots of facts proving the rightness of the great political rebellion. I could also show him scriptures which prove they're still good friends. It's all part of the drama of the creation of worlds. Remember they made a friendly bet over Job.

Seems to me almost anything could be argued from opposing sides with near equal numbers of experts and establishments of supposed truths.

I learn a lot that way and I also make a lot of enemies! I'm glad you're not one of them.

What will I do on election day? There are staggering facts on the side of both dangerous candidates. Maybe, I'll throw dice. Ought oh, both sides are glaring at me.

Outta here!

Peeking back in, my animal is the trickster.

Carol D (346)

Ahhhhhhhhh...Zee..there this in all fairness and good faith and morals what we would expect our politicians to do for us!? It's kind of like the Food Stamp program and Welfare....temp them...get them addicted to it...make them depend on it and then you have them hooked!! Is this in all honesty how you want our country to be run!? I don't! I want a politician who can keep as close to his word as what he promised...we all know that they may have good intentions but in all honesty how many Presidents have been able to fulfill every claim they made!? I would be damn happy if they got 50% done and anything above that is icing on the cake!

I understand where you are coming from! And I see the wisdom in your ways! :-) Sometimes we gotta do what we feel we have to in order to try and stay on top of things. That's all we can do and then hope to heck that we can gain the integrity to be able to decipher what is right, wrong and moral..but the way I look at it a person can look at a situation and most of the time be able to tell right off the bat what sounds right and what don't or what actions appear right or those that don't. The older we get I like to think the wiser we get! At least most of us I think feel this way!

I may make enemies too the way I think and feel about things but I really try hard not to!! It just gets frustrating when I can see things so clearly as to what's going on..and I am not a wizard by any means but I am not stupid...and I figure if I can see what is going on and what's happening why can't these other people see it that I feel are a lot smarter than me!? Or at least I give them the benefit of the doubt that they are intelligent..but some of the most basic common sense actions I see results that just blow me away! LOL..

All I can honestly say is go with your gut feeling and what is in your heart along with the process of elimination and by that I mean put the candidates side by side and then do the process of this one did this and that one did that OR check their backgrounds and their accomplishments....heck I don't know the real answers because for me it happened before Obama ever got in. I saw him giving a speech...I was at my sons place in Anchorage and his X girlfriend was there (both my son and her were Obama lovers) anyway I told her "I don't like that guy!" He is too smooth and says all the right things and if sounds too good to be true it usually is! Besides I got this gut feeling in my stomach that was an actual physical ache..then I knew i was right.Well my son and her are not together anymore and I think my son has changed his tune..I can only hope!!

I have one questin to ask. I think most of us are not better off than we were four years ago. Neither is our nation.

What can be more dangerous than an ineffective president?

Answer an ineffective president who CAN NOT be relected.

Think on it.

Power is addictive. The possibility of another four years in power does hold some check on the actions of a president - even an ineffective one. When that check is gone.........heaven help us!

The possibility of another four years in power does hold some check on the actions of a president - much check have we had in the past 4 years with Obama in!? He does what he wants no matter what we the people want or what the Congress wanted. A check like that is actuality there is no I would say another 4 years with a president where there is NO far more dangerous than electing one who loves this country and only wants to do good by her! JMO

The one thing OBummer is effective at is raising the national debt which is inherited by our children and our grandchildren.

I SO agree with you on this Zee!! That's a clear fact!! (((HUGS)))
