(NEWSER) – Barack Obama’s record-breaking $485-million war chest includes a number of small, illegal donations that federal officials have ordered the campaign to return, reports Newsweek. The GOP has requested a federal investigation into Obama’s campaign finances, the Washington Post writes. Roughly half of Obama's funds have been raised through donations of $200 or less, which are exempt from disclosure regulations. The system can be manipulated by determined contributors.
Newsweek highlights two donors who gave a combined total of more than $28,000 in small contributions, exceeding the $2,300-per-person federal limit. Other reports suggest that the campaign may have accepted $34 million from donors who might be foreign citizens. Obama officials say they’ve implemented several safeguards in an attempt to prevent illegal contributions. They also note that John McCain has been ordered to return more than $1.2 million in possibly illegal donations.

John..Good question...I saw that but thought why would they be posting something like that in today's news? I mean everything else is up to date. Maybe it's a booboo!?

Jae..I read the article and also read another longer article on this. And the way the topic is headed it makes it sound like Romney is the crook for taking these donations and basically being the instigator which is not true. It's the owner of the coal mines who does what he does to his workers in order to get them to contribute which I DO NOT agree with his tactic!!!! And no where does it say that Romney KNEW this is what happened in order for him to get donations from this company!! So by him accepting donations from someone without knowing how they were accumulated is not his fault especially when they were in the legal amount that he could accept. The owner of these mines is a staunch Republican supporter. Here is the link to the other story I's long but informative!

So there was nothing crooked about the donations that Romney received from that business.

This puts the lie to Democrats' supposed concern for the integrity of campaign donations.

Haven't heard anymore on this Marilyn so I wonder what's going on! They sure have backed off on their attack ads against Romney!!
