Corporate lawyer Patricia Millett is disconnected from the reality facing working Americans like me and her legal track record makes clear that she would not be able to rule impartially on questions of worker freedom of association. A Shill for Starbucks!

I, like many other workers, had fallen victim to Starbucks' anti-union campaign, indistinguishable from Wal-Mart's. Three judicial determinations have held that Starbucks broke federal law when it fired me for sticking up with my-coworkers for reliable work schedules, pay to support our families, and respectful treatment from management. But year after year has gone by and Starbucks is choosing to spend enormous sums on legal fees instead of accepting justice in the case of one barista.

Nominated by President Obama today for the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Patricia Millett is the attorney for Starbucks trying to cut down my nearly eight year quest for justice. She argued in the Second Circuit to reverse the three judicial victories that I have won against the anti-union strategy that her law firm devised for Starbucks.

Ms. Millett successfully got my case sent back down to the National Labor Relations Board where it's quite possible that I will lose after all these years. But it gets even worse. She is now claiming that the Labor Board does not have the power to even rule on my case because she argues that President Obama's appointees to that federal agency are unconstitutional. Under her tortured logic, I'm in a legal purgatory where I can't win (or even lose) as the years continue to go by.

Corporate lawyer Patricia Millett is disconnected from the reality facing working Americans like me and her legal track record makes clear that she would not be able to rule impartially on questions of worker freedom of association.

To:
The President of the United States
The U.S. Senate
Howard Schultz, CEO, Starbucks Corp.
Patricia Millett, Nominee to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals
Patricia Millett has a deep track record of animosity to workers coming together to protect their rights. It's clear that she is incapable of ruling impartially in cases impacting the freedom of association of workers. Please rescind Ms. Millett's nomination to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The big campaign bucks are really making history set'n nomination/appointments over the last decade aren't they. Problem is they are all use to working for profit based concepts that drain the publics wallets , not tax dollar funded which in D.C. means free money to do whatever basically ..for too many years ...which is also a drain on the public. They're not bookkeepers or accounts or even familiar with checks and balances all too often and they are certainly not interested in the needs and betterment of the people to begin with. Their judgements are based on profit motives and on and on. Of course anything for a corporate will be ruled on as Ok or denied those against them...regardless of what it means to the public..as usual. All in all, I say HELL NO on this nomination also.

Signed and noted and thanks for the find/share BMutiny.

Signed. Let me get this straight. Obama is nominating her BUT then she's carrying a case for Starbucks in which she claims the Labor Board does not have the power to even rule on the case because she argues that President Obama's appointees to that federal agency are unconstitutional. Is Obama aware of this? The woman says Obama violates the US Constitution and yet he nominates her!!!

This sure sounds like the Peter Principle at work --- rising to the height of one's incompetence.

Thank you, BMutiny. Signed and noted.

Many of President Obama's appointments just plain suck. There is no nice way to say it. One after another, they have a right wing ideology. I am very disappointed. I have grown ever more suspicious of President Obama.

Signed and I wish I had seen this earlier. It IS confusing to me; just last week I posted a petition telling Senate to end obstruction and fill the DC circuit (http://www.care2.com/news/member/153110506/3591548 ) with the nominees, Millet being one of the three. There it says:
"The abuse of Senate rules to obstruct judicial and executive branch nominations must come to an end immediately.

Act without delay to CONFIRM D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals nominees Cornelia Pillard, Patricia Ann Millet and Robert Leon Wilkins. Each one of these nominees has superb credentials, is well within the mainstream and is the definition of uncontroversial.

No more excuses. Fulfill your constitutional duty: Confirm these nominees and fill the vacancies on the D.C. Circuit."

I'm now wondering what's worse-the vacancies or nominees with anti-union ties. Thx Barbara

Angelika: Confusing indeed!
Now it makes you wonder about the OTHER two judicial nominees...

"superb credentials... well within the mainstream... the definition of uncontroversial"
By WHOSE definitions? the Bosses? {or maybe Labor "doesn't count"...}.

I don't believe Obama is your man. Hasn't he shown his colors enough? More wars, drone strikes targeting civilian gatherings, civil rights/liberties violations, and as Edward Snowden revealed - lots of illegal surveillance. Do you think he is out for your good? Good luck.
