As host of the 2014 Olympics in Sochi this coming February, Russia will open its arms to visitors from around the world -- so long as they're not gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. At least, that's what gay rights activists fear.

As host of the 2014 Olympics in Sochi this coming February, Russia will open its arms to visitors from around the world -- so long as they’re not gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. At least, that’s what gay rights activists fear after the government passed one of the most draconian anti-gay laws on the planet this week." (Mark Johanson, International Business Times, July 4, 2013)

“It is now literally illegal in Russia to say that you are gay. It is illegal to kiss your partner in public -- say, after you win a gold medal. It is illegal for a gay athlete to wear the rainbow flag. Or even to acknowledge during an interview that they are gay -- or for the foreign press to acknowledge it -- unless they mention that gay sexual orientation in a negative way.” (eTN Global Travel Industry News, July 2, 2013)

Russia has made it clear to all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender athletes, guests, and journalists, that they are not welcome at the Sochi games if they do not remain silent about who they are and what their most significant relationships mean to them. They call this propaganda. Interestingly however, everyone is free to discuss these issues so long as they paint them in a negative light, and yet that is not considered propaganda.

As host nation, Russia has an obligation to welcome all athletes, guests, and journalists equally, and not to place onerous conditions on their participation in the games. We, the signers of this petition, call on the International Olympic Committee and all National Olympic Organizations of the world to demand that Russia guarantee the freedom of expression to all attendees and participants in the Sochi games.

If Sochi, Russia is like OTHER cities that have hosted the Olympic Games, they are not only getting stray ANIMALS off the streets to make them "clean and pretty" for the tourists -

I bet they are also going to CLEAR OFF THE HOMELESS and other "Undesirables" - will there be a Petition about THAT, I wonder?

ALWAYS happens, when there's an Olympics anywhere.
Also RENTS GO UP so poor people can't afford them any more - and CITIES RUN UP ENORMOUS DEBTS. Which then somehow the taxpayers are stuck with...
Oh, but, the, the, the PRESTIGE of it all!!!!!!
"Worth it" for the destruction of PEOPLE AND ANIMALS BOTH, huh?????

IF the Olympic Committee and the Russians don't respond, is an INTERNATIONAL BOYCOTT BY LGBT PEOPLE THE ANSWER?????

Gay people and, of course, their Allies, are EVERYWHERE - including in Athletics everywhere - and
WE HAVE SHOWN OURSELVES A POWERFUL FORCE. {In getting Equality in Marriage and other Equal Rights in so MANY countries!}
A massive International Boycott could TOTALLY DISRUPT THE WINTER OLYMPICS - for sure, Gay People are that strong and can be that organized!!!

Coca-Cola, Proctor&Gamble, Visa, Samsung, Panasonic, and OTHERS:
Please go HERE:

"Some gay rights activists like RUSA LGBT have asked corporate sponsors and partners of the Sochi Olympics -- including Coca-Cola, VISA, Omega Watches, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Procter & Gamble, Samsung and Panasonic -- to withdraw their support and funding unless Russia can ensure the safety of all visitors to the Olympic Games."

You can also look these Corporate Sponsors up on the Internet and e-mail them directly.
LETTERS, real OBJECTS they can handle, ALSO can have a MAJOR impact!

Another idea - call or e-mail or write the NETWORKS that will be CARRYING the Olympic Winter Games!
There is a LOT that we can do, starting NOW!
Gay people of the World, must look out for one another! and their Allies!
