The Seeds of Rebellion Are Taking Root, and Protests Against Injustices Are Blooming Across the Country
This week saw thousands protesting the Zimmerman ruling, continued bravery in California's prisons, and much more.
July 19, 2013 |

Stephen Shapiro describes Occupy as a “dandelion moment” in which the movement successfully dispersed seeds to float and root, thereby growing into a bigger movement. We would not limit the seeds to the US Occupy, but include the Arab Spring, the Indignados, the current revolts in Brazil and Turkey and the new phase of revolt in Egypt. All of these mass actions spread around the globe like seeds spurring more mass actions. In the US we certainly see ongoing activism around many issues and flowers of resistance growing.

Shapiro also describes the moment we are in as a potential pre-history moment, asking: “What if we are in a time akin to the early 60s and in a few years there is a May 1968 moment?” The actions around the country indicate a potential pre-history moment, a lot is bubbling around the country, not quite boiling but getting hotter.

This week the verdict in the George Zimmerman case caused strong reactions with thousands marching throughout the country, sometimes met with abusive police force like the LAPD shooting rubber bullets. While people were directly upset with the verdict, they also connected the decision to evidence of widespread racially unfair bias in the criminal justice system, white privilege, the long history of racism in the United States and the disregard for young black men. People are focusing on repealing “Stand Your Ground” laws that have been pushed by groups like ALEC and the NRA. In fact, Floridians have occupied Gov. Scott’s office for three days.

Yes. This is an international movement.....or rather a movement without borders or traditional national "entities"..

It was one thing in the Arab Spring, then the anti Austerity movements in Greece and the "Take the Squares" in Spain and Occupy (more successful in Quebec than anywhere else) now the Brazilian Autumn.

The movement must replace the bankster rigged currencies and the entrenched politicians and parasite public servants. All are oppressors and have an entirely different definition of "entitlement" where they are the only ones entitled.

Do you realize that the employed poor in Brazil must spend over 30% of their gross pay for public transportation to their places of employment? This extraordinary injustice takes about 3 meals a week away from their children due to supporting an enormous array of government officials riding on top of the public transportation system. At the same time, Brazil plunges into, of course, huge debts to stage athletic events.

What privation must be coming to the poor in the Russian Federation in order to stage Putin's Olympics. The stuff of horror for poor parents?

Yes, there is a hard, hard rain going to fall. Unfortunately, it has to be a catastrophe of global proportions.

I do hope we are in a pre-history moment, and frankly, the very concept helps give me that hope. (Incidentally Joan Baez' mother passed away just this year at if I recall correctly the age of 101, for what it is worth.)

Other signs are the movements to take back homes and neighborhoods from the banks and release of persons without criminal records from ICE, like Arapaio's workplace raids victims...lots percolating.

If you remember Dorli Rainey - the over-80-year-old woman whose photo WENT VIRAL after she was TEAR-GASSED at an Occupy Seattle event -
Well, I am proud to say I know her - and, recently, in Seattle,
SHE HAS BEEN TAKING PART IN SIT-INS OCCUPYING AND TAKING BACK HOMES FROM FORECLOSURE.
She is now 86 years old!
She doesn't mind getting arrested...
We all must be IN AWE of Dorli Rainey! She has unbelievable ENERGY for Activism...

And if it weren't for the Internet, how would we even KNOW about all this, beyond what was happening in our own backyards???
The media now know that describing Resistance, ENCOURAGES it - so the best policy is to say NOTHING, or as little as possible - distorted, of course!
Without the Internet, the info here in this article would be available to ONLY A FEW RESEARCHERS... and stop there!!!

Oh I like dandelions moments......lol It is the reason I use the name.

As with all movements, there is a build up. Nothing is being done to help the average person, in fact when there is something done, it makes it worse. Eventually, the straw that breaks the camels back will happen.

The Hierarchical way of organizing on the Left, has proven a DISASTER - "Support the Leader - me! - or be expelled!" just shows what any "Leftist" or any other Party, would be like if GODDESS FORBID, they ever actually came to power!

A "Horizontal" way of organizing, is being experimented with by the Occupy Movement {which like the Dandelion, has DISPERSED ITS SEEDS, NOT gone away!}.
INNOVATIVE ways of "Unity" must evolve. FORCED Unity under ANY pretenses whatsoever, will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER SUCCEED...

[The "success" of a Forced Unity, would actually mean its FAILURE... just ANOTHER top-down, repressive Hierarchical system, no different in nature and effect, from the old Hierarchies...]
The Internet itself, is a way we can organize and express our Unity and Resolve, HORIZONTALLY...
From the GROUND UP, and NOT the Top Down...

Shades of he 60s Batman! Right now there are pockets in many different places, not yet overflowing - and not sewn shut...Always has been from the ground up, word of mouth - that's what gets NSA so jumpy...

Anyone remember For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield?? Listen...Whispers...

Random thoughts and ideas, floating on the wind like many seeds, not just dandelions, but so many kinds, gathering, all blowing thru the pollution coming from various governements, religions, and their toadies...

I truly believe that what is happening in Detroit right now is a precursor to what the 1% and the gop plan as a larger strategy for this country. They replace local elected officials with emergency managers (or whatever they will call them elsewhere), privatize public services so that those tax dollars flow not into the hands of the people but into private companies coffers, think Halliburton on a much larger scale and with a multitude of companies providing various services now provided by public servants. They will be able to use temporary workers at lower wages, with no benefits, no unions and no pensions. I think it a plan to take over America and ultimately destroy our constitution and our country for the benefit of the few - much like what is and has always been the case in many countries around the world. These are not simply citizens of America, these 1%er's, they are citizens of the planet with homes spread across the globe. They have no loyalty to any particular country and their only God is money. I think an American spring is due and when it comes these will be sorry they did not support gun control as the militia's rise up against them. Not science fiction and I don't think it even that far-fetched, nor do I think it beyond the 1% to be planning exactly this. Detroit is a testing ground and we will watch as those tactics roll out across the country, Chicago is near bankrupt too, is that the next city to be privatized? They have limitless resources, we, the people, have only our spirit and faith in freedom. I hope it is enough to stop them.

I very much agree with you, Gene.
This from drwes@realchangenews.org:
"The Wall Street Journal recently published an editorial that said Egypt would be best off if the military installed a Pinochet-style dictator. This inspired me to wonder how long The Wall Street Journal has waited for a chance to tell us how much they admire Pinochet. Next I wondered, 'When will they tell us how wonderful it will be the day the United States gets its own Mussolini?'
It's good to know where The Wall Street Journal stands on the pressing issues of our time, such as the question of whether oppressive dictators who torture and murder dissenters are underrated."
[The name of Dr. Wes Browning's column is "Adventures in Irony".]

But - Gene, which side do you think the militias will be on?
I guess it could go either way -
but what *I* see, is the attempt {very successful!} to "divide and conquer", painting the INNER CITY POOR {and not-incidentally, Black people} as The Threat and The Enemy. {The Trayvon Martin case is being USED this way.} Then the Armed Militias will TURN THEIR GUNS AGAINST THE INNER-CITY POOR when they rise up - seeing them as "The Other", the Zombies, the Invaders - instead of making COMMON CAUSE with them AGAINST the govt and the Corporations and the 1%.

"They have no loyalty to any particular country and their only God is money."
This needs to be REPEATED and REPEATED and REPEATED.... so that people are UN-BRAINWASHED...
Thank you, Gene.

You may want to ALSO go to this article I posted:

http://www.care2.com/news/member/911530155/3615269

It is about FBI STING OPERATIONS, the PHONEY "WAR ON DRUGS" and "WAR ON TERROR"; and the NOT phoney Boston Bombings - in which the FBI seems to have had a "hidden hand", somehow...
More on HOW OUR FREEDOMS ARE BEING TAKEN AWAY and the Public attempted to be fooled and lulled into compliance with a Police State, "trading Freedom for the idea of Security".
[Note: Some of this is WELL-DOCUMENTED material that has appeared in published books and magazines by respected researchers. Some of this is MY OWN SPECULATIONS, developed by nobody but myself. Make up your own mind on the latter, it's open-ended...]

Thank you, BMutiny. I'm sorry to be out of stars for you today. And, let's not forget NC and the "Moral Mondays" where more and more protesters are being arrested every week. Although I haven't peeked in on network news, so I don't know if they are reporting these protests and arrests....I read about them online daily. I agree with many here that we in the U.S. are reaching a critical mass, and look forward to protests like the big one planned for Nov. 5th....I will be there!

Watch out for those ATTEMPTING TO PROVOKE VIOLENCE during November 5th demonstrations.
DON'T let them get away with it! STOP THEM physically, if you have to!
They are TRYING TO PROVOKE A "GOOD REASON" FOR VIOLENCE *AGAINST* YOU!
By either the cops, or the gun-toting "stand your ground" crazies, or BOTH.
Those urging on violence in the demonstrations, ARE ACTUALLY WORKING FOR THE OPPOSITE SIDE.

DON'T let agitators between now and Nov 5th - like on Faux News - don't let them DIVIDE THE RACES AND CLASSES, one from the other!
They will try to have us TURN AGAINST EACH OTHER, instead of against the 1%!
This often has worked QUITE WELL!
They will MANIPULATE YOUR PERCEPTIONS, play on everyone's fears...
WATCH OUT FOR, and EXPOSE, instances of this when you see them...

There are TWO "fault lines" where the 1%, and their agents, will TRY TO DIVIDE US.
By MANIPULATING OUR PERCEPTIONS of each other.
[And they have almost the entire Media to do it with!]

One is, the OBVIOUS one, of DIVIDING US BY RACE - BLACK AGAINST WHITE.
You can see this starting NOW, with Right-wing media's reaction to the Trayvon Martin case.
They will TRY TO POSIT US, AS EACH OTHERS' ENEMIES - Blacks vs. Whites, "Dangerous" Blacks vs. "Racist" Whites - instead of us UNITING IN A COMMON CAUSE - as we DID do during the Civil Rights Movement!
That is ONE, very OBVIOUS way the 1% are trying and WILL TRY HARDER, to turn us against EACH OTHER rather than Unite against the Elite 1%!

The OTHER great fault line they will use, is MEN AGAINST WOMEN. One tactic of the AGENTS infiltrated into the Movement, is to DISPARAGE AND ATTACK WOMEN - AS WOMEN. Then the Women get MAD, then the Agents diss them even MORE, then the Movement Women get mad at ALL THE MEN {for not defending them}, and so it ESCALATES. Then the Women might even leave in a huff! or some of them... Mission Accomplished!!!
If you SEE A MOVEMENT MAN DISPARAGE AND ATTACK A WOMAN, OR WOMEN, *AS* WOMEN - then you are DEALING WITH AN AGENT, NOT with a "real" Movement person. {Same with Gays - but I have not heard of this tactic actually being used, yet. But, it is theoretically possible.}
I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE. Believe me!!! No Bullscheiss.....

I will try and post REMINDERS every once-in-a-while, to keep us READY AND ON OUR TOES...
Oh by the way, SOME AGENTS POSE AS GAY PEOPLE {when they're not} - for extra "street creds"...

Yes November 5th...!!! And from that point on hopefully there will spring up more and more grass roots events and public interest (waking up) all through the winter months......... If we don't stand up for our rights and for the sanctity and dignity of all our lives and our environment, who will?
We are like shepherds of the 'seeds of truth' ....The fields need to be sown now....!!!!!!

Well put, Devon - and all of you who commented.

You know that November 5th is Guy Fawkes Day, a national holiday in Britain, like our 4th of July?
[And that that grinning mask, is supposed to represent Mr. Fawkes himself - who got caught while trying to blow up King James {of the King James Bible} and the British Parliament with barrels of Gunpowder in the basement?] [Some people say he was FRAMED...]
[Also of course the mask is from the movie "V - for Vendetta" which for some reason I haven't seen yet...

I hope people are spreading the news about November 5th to your friends on OTHER SOCIAL NETWORKS..
