Please consider using Coca Cola's vast influence over the Winter Olympics to condemn these terrible laws & encourage Russian parliament to re-think its stance on the gay community. We need this backward way of thinking to become financially unsustainable.

Target: Muhtar Kent, Coca Cola CEO
Goal: Urge Coca Cola to condemn Russia’s anti-gay agenda in the Sochi Winter Olympics

The Russian parliament and president Vladimir Putin have recently gone on a rampage, destroying and denigrating the rights and freedoms of Russia’s gay citizens. They have put laws into effect that illegalize “gay propaganda,” a phrase so loosely defined that it could apply to anything from visual art to teachers in their classrooms. The law institutes fines and punishments up to 3-year jail sentences for those found guilty of breaking the law, including foreigners on Russian soil.

These laws have led to a direct increase in public anti-gay violence along with a strong anti-gay sentiment that pervades the social climate, with some international rights groups calling the situation “the worst human rights climate in the post-Soviet era.”

Not only do these absurd and myopic laws endanger the safety and wellbeing of Russia’s own gay citizenry, but as this year’s Winter Olympics are being held in Sochi, these laws pose serious threats to the international community. Visiting athletes and their supporters are in danger of fines and jail sentences if they dare to speak out about gay rights, and their very lives are at stake in the volatile anti-gay climate amidst the population.

Coca Cola is a major investor in the Sochi Olympics, and their condemnation of these brutal affronts to civil liberties would not be ignored. Executives at Coca Cola will be meeting in order to discuss whether or not to condemn Russia and its anti-gay agenda. Please sign this petition to urge Coca Cola to condemn Russia’s anti-gay laws.

Why are the Russians doing this? It makes no sense! They are driving scores of people away from their Olympics by passing these laws!! Just what do they think they will accomplish by banning the LGBT community? It just puts the whole country in a bad position!
I think everyone should be able to live their life the way that makes them happy! I'm a straight person for LGBT Rights. There is no reason to try to legislate someone's private life!!
Thanks, B. M.for the share!

If you look, you will find that the RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH is behind a lot of the anti-Gay legislation.
Religion ALWAYS makes people Irrational. [I should say, PATRIARCHAL Religion, does.]

Putin and the Russian Orthodox Church have an unholy alliance, just the same as in the days of the Tsars.
The idea, is to keep people under CONTROL.
There are LOTS of Russians who DISAGREE with this!

The continued repression of the LGBT community in Russia is inexcusable. Pressure must be brought to bear against Russia so that they reverse their antiquated and prejudiced thinking.

Events like the Olympics provide a platform for people around the world to protest this kind of repressive and repulsive legislation.

Well said Craig. I think the Olympics should be boycotted, though I feel very sorry for the athletes who would lose such a glorious chance to showcase their talents.

It is too late for a boycott of the Winter Olympics, or, what would have been even better, moving them to another place. There was not enough unity behind such a boycott - that idea was a flop from the beginning.
However, we CAN boycott actually GOING to the Olympics in Sochi -
and boycott ALL travel and tourism to Russia - many tours have already cancelled!
We can boycott going to film festivals, etc., in Russia.
We can boycott products from Russia, such as Russian-made vodka {a big thing in Gay bars!}.
We can boycott SPONSORS of the Olympics, such as Coca-Cola; Sony; GeneralElectric; and other biggies.
We can boycott the NETWORK that carries the Olympics - NBC.
And we can TELL all these Sponsors WHY we are boycotting - there are several Petitions, and we can also write letters, send e-mails and make phone calls...
