It's mind-boggling, what Tor users may have available. If these sites are genuine, then it's clear this underground network is rich with beneath-the-table resources, including fake IDs, fixed sporting events, counterfeit money, child pornography, stolen

"It’s mind-boggling, what Tor users may have available. If these sites are genuine, then it’s clear this underground network is rich with beneath-the-table resources, including fake IDs, fixed sporting events, counterfeit money, child pornography, and stolen credit cards, passports and social security numbers. And that’s just scratching the surface."
====================
FAKE IDs, STOLEN CREDIT CARDS and SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS.
====================
There are a great many places to look, and a LOT of Info, under such headings as "Deep Web" and "Dark Web" and "Silk Road" and "TOR". I am not going to give references here, ANYbody can look them up.
It's a Revelation, all right.
WHY am I putting this out here - and suggesting that you, if interested, go look up MORE stuff on your own???

In regard to FAKE IDs, and IDENTITY THEFT - Identities are a HOT COMMODITY on the Internet, there is technology in place to CAPTURE, and to SELL, and to USE these FAKE IDENTITIES.

CARE2, with its MILLIONS of members - it's like a GOLD MINE OR DIAMOND MINE, yes, a MINE - for NAMES, PICTURES, PROFILES AND IDENTITIES. Like, there are MILLIONS of them, right???!!! MILLIONS of US!

You know those "cute little chickies" with generally blond hair and smiling faces, twenty-somethings, who advertise "my roommate made thousands of dollars at home with her computer" or garbage like that - "go to this site for more information"....
YOU'D BE AN UTTER FOOL, TO GO THERE! Even out of curiosity, or whatever....
FIRST OF ALL,
you see essentially the SAME ads day after day after day, with DIFFERENT pictures....
THESE ARE NOT "PRIVATE" INDIVIDUALS, OBVIOUSLY, BUT A COMPANY.
Do you think that little chickie is such a computer genius that "she" can APPEAR ON SEVERAL CARE2 THREADS SIMULTANEOUSLY??? as they do, on 20 or more threads AT ONCE, SIMULTANEOUSLY.
SECONDLY,
That cheesy "business" is NOT ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THIS HUGE BLAST OF ADVERTISING, the TECHNOLOGY required for it.
That cheesy "business" is NOT EXPECTING ANY REAL "CUSTOMERS" TO "BUY" ANYTHING AT ALL.
They just want to LURE you to GO there.
I just figured that all out, it's OBVIOUS.

Once someone actually GOES there, even for the briefest space of time -
I am a computer dummy, I admit it.
But, I think they must have a REASON for wanting to LURE people to that site.
I think they can CAPTURE AND MARKET people's IDs and Information.
I think they have some way of GETTING INTO YOUR COMPUTER... to get AT your private info.
I think those "chickies", they are THEMSELVES innocent people whose names and pics have been STOLEN.
They probably have NO IDEA they are being USED to advertise in this way...
After all - this should shock us all -
A COMPANY USED RANDY PAYNTER'S PIC, AND A PIC OF HIM WITH HIS KID, TO ADVERTISE A PHONEY LOTTERY...... under the names of "The Team" and "Our Team".
I admit, the first time I saw a pic of him & his cute kid, and the logo "The Team", I THOUGHT IT WAS FOR REAL.
If it can happen to RANDY PAYNTER, it can happen to YOU - to ANYBODY on Care2.
This is SINISTER - it is NOT FUNNY.
Go and READ UP ON "The Dark Web".... as I said, there are LOTS and LOTS of articles and References...

I think we on Care2 need to get our heads together and discuss HOW WE CAN PROTECT OURSELVES AGAINST THIS IDENTITY THEFT....
It won't be easy.....

Something Must Be Done.....
If you go to "Community" - then to "People" - then to "Members" - "New Members" - "More New Members" -
You will find how these CRIMINAL SYNDICATES get onto Care2.

They can be FLAGGED AS THEY COME IN.
Thing is, there has to be SOMEBODY ON WATCH 24/7 for that to happen!
I myself have flagged HUNDREDS.{Well, it feels like hundreds!}
There is NO WAY to keep them out with filters!
This has to be done "by hand". A Human Brain is needed. There is no "mechanical" way.

Also, wouldn't it be GREAT if there was somebody "on duty" 24/7 to ERASE THESE IDENTITY THIEVES AS SOON AS THEY ARE FLAGGED???!!!

Just like OIL COMPANIES DRILL FOR OIL IN THE ARCTIC, COAL COMPANIES MINE IN APPALACHIA FOR COAL, GOLD MINES DIG UP GOLD - AND DIAMONDS - IN SOUTH AFRICA -
in just the SAME way, CRIMINALS ARE MINING PLACES LIKE CARE2 FOR I.D.s THAT THEY CAN SELL AND USE.
For a PROFIT, of course. If they can't profit off your LABOR or your Country's NATURAL RESOURCES, they can profit off your PICTURE, NAME, PROFILE, whatever.... and you might never even know it!

If you look at the "FAKE NEW MEMBERS" as they come in - you can quite easily learn to RECOGNIZE them! - you see the FAKE PROFILES some of them have obviously BORROWED from somewhere else... the Fake Profiles are often inconsistent in giving the name, sex, or country... contradictory info from DIFFERENT sources is given in the Fake Profiles of Fake "New Members". It's ONE of the ways you can tell... and then FLAG THOSE PROFILES, of course...

From an article in TheGuardian, on the Dark Web:
"There's a well-known crime syndicate called the Russian Business Network (RBN)," says Craig Labovitz, chief scientist at Arbor Networks, a leading online security firm, "and they're always jumping around the internet, grabbing bits of [disused] address space, sending out millions of spam emails from there, and then quickly disconnecting."

The RBN also rents temporary websites to other criminals for online identity theft, child pornography and releasing computer viruses.
The internet has been infamous for such activities for decades; what has been less understood until recently was how the increasingly complex geography of the internet has aided them. "In 2000 dark and murky address space was a bit of a novelty," says Labovitz. "This is now an entrenched part of the daily life of the internet." Defunct online companies; technical errors and failures; disputes between internet service providers; abandoned addresses once used by the US military in the earliest days of the internet – all these have left the online landscape scattered with derelict or forgotten properties, perfect for illicit exploitation, sometimes for only a few seconds before they are returned to disuse.

WHERE DOES ALL THAT CYBER-CASH-FLOW ULTIMATELY GO?
GOOD QUESTION.
HERE'S AN ANSWER: ILLEGAL TRAFFICKING OF ALL KINDS. What else?
Causes Article:
The $19 billion global black market in wildlife is not only threatening the survival of elephants hunted and other endangered species. It is threatening the very stability of governments, says a just-released study (pdf) by the conservation group WWF. Rebel groups are using funds from trafficking to purchase weapons and finance civil conflicts and even terrorist cells.

John Scanlon, secretary general of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (Cites), said that rebel groups are literally “cashing in” on world-wide demand for elephants, tigers and rhinoceros, whose body parts are in high demand in parts of Asia for use in traditional medicine. In northern Cameroon, Chad, the Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, 450 elephants were slaughtered last year and their ivory directly used to finance arms and bribe government officials. The number of rhinos killed for their horns (worth some $600,000) has risen from about 20 a year to an expected 600 this year.

The illegal sale of animals and plants is, says the study, the fourth largest kind of illegal trading in the world, after narcotics, counterfeiting of products and currency and the trafficking of people.

The study is based on interviews with 15 government officials and seven representatives of international organizations that deal with trafficking. But two government officials objected to answer questions about government corruption and Vietnam, which has become a central market for the illicit trade in rhino horns, refused to participate.

Organized Crime Has Entered the Illegal Wildlife Trade
Even more, the WWF report suggests that “ power and sophisticated crime syndicates” are behind a huge rise in the illegal wildlife trade. The internet has also played a role as it has made illegal products available to many, many more

'"power and sophisticated crime syndicates” are behind a huge rise in the illegal wildlife trade. The INTERNET has also played a role as it has made illegal products available to many, many more...'

And THAT, boys and girls, is the ULTIMATE PURPOSE of those "annoying ADS" that appear on weekends on OUR ANIMAL-LOVING SITE HERE.....!!!!!?????

From the CROSS-REFERENCED article, "The Brave New World of Cyber Heists": Comment:

WHEN YOU SEE ONE OF THOSE "NUISANCE" ADS POPPING UP ON CARE2 THREADS...
"Cute young thing" says her "roommate made umpteen dollars easy at home with her computer and bought a Lexus"....
THIS IS WHAT IT REALLY IS.
That "Cute young thing" is nothing but a STOLEN PICTURE, and a STOLEN NAME {not having any relationship with each other!};
just GOING to that site at all, I wouldn't recommend, as IDENTITY-THEFT and CREDIT-CARD INFO THEFT are possibilities...
[The SPECIFIC PURPOSE of those "annoying ads", is to RECRUIT PEOPLE TO HELP LAUNDER MONEY FOR RUSSIAN AND UKRAINIAN ILLEGAL NETWORKS. Not the "innocent" money-making easy jobs they SEEM... ]
[I have DONE MY HOMEWORK and RESEARCHED THIS from several Sources... Research which is REPLICABLE, anyone can do it. Including MANAGEMENT of this Site... if they want to.]

...even a "sophisticated", but jobless and desperate, person like Contreras, FELL for the "offer" and thus became a "MULE" - unwittingly carrying out the business of an INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL GANG.

THAT is what is REALLY being offered by those annoying "work from home" ads.

By the way, the STOLEN MONEY is being used to FINANCE, among other things:
DRUG TRAFFICKING
WEAPONS TRAFFICKING
HUMAN TRAFFICKING, including Trafficking of Women and Children for Sexual Exploitation
TERRORISM, and Civil Wars over Minerals, Gold, Diamonds, etc.
and, POACHERS AND INTERNET SELLING OF ANIMAL PARTS, including Ivory, Rhino Horns, parts of Tigers, etc.....
THAT'S what those "Cute young thing" ads are REALLY ABOUT.
When you see them, think of POACHERS, Endangered Species...
I'm just TRYING to WARN ya.......

What I am trying to Establish here -
and believe that I HAVE Established beyond any doubt -

is a DIRECT LINK between those "Annoying Ads" that come onto threads especially on the Weekends, come on by the DOZENS all at one time! - the "easy money easy living work at home from your computer says Cute Young Chickie" ads -

and, via RUSSIAN CYBER-CRIMINALS, aided by U.S. CRIMINALS such as JESSE WILLMS, recruiting thru THESE VERY SAME ADS, deceptively recruiting MULES to use the Internet to STEAL AND LAUNDER MONEY sent all over the place, ending up in CRIMINAL HANDS -

and those SAME CRIMINALS, INCREASING THEIR HUGE CRIMINAL EMPIRES, by TRAFFICKING of all kinds:
Drug and Weapons and HUMAN and ANIMAL TRAFFICKING. POACHED ANIMAL PARTS which are trafficked on the Internet - the only place they CAN be sold! without the Law stopping it! - leading to FUELING TERRORISM AND CIVIL WARS and mass deaths resulting from that...

There is a REAL DIRECT LINE HERE, that can be TRACED.
Annoying Ads - Credit Card and Identity Theft - recruiting "Mules" to pass Illegally-gotten money around in Cyberspace - Super-wealthy super-Criminals - Trafficking of all kinds on the "Dark Web" - Very lucrative Poaching and killing and selling body parts of Elephants, Rhinos, Tigers, etc. - Fueling Terrorism, Fanaticism, and Civil Wars.

THIS IS THE TRUE PICTURE OF THE CYBER-WORLD WE ARE LIVING IN.
No use hiding one's head in the sand!
I HAVE DONE THE RESEARCH - and ANYone can Replicate and Verify the SAME RESEARCH, thru multiple Channels!
So - I have traced a DIRECT LINE BETWEEN THOSE "ANNOYING ADS" ON THIS SITE - at one end -
and ANIMAL POACHING OF ENDANGERED SPECIES ON A HUGE, AND TERRIFYING, SCALE - at the other end.

THAT'S why I am so CONCERNED about those "Annoying Ads" - do they BELONG HERE? on a site that DOESN'T SUPPORT POACHING to say the least???
But, by being a CONDUIT for those Ads, we ARE SUPPORTING THOSE MAKING PROFITS FROM POACHING AND KILLING ENDANGERED SPECIES - we are AIDING AND ABETTING, altho of course not "on purpose", but DOING SO ANYWAY.
This is something that "some people" DON'T LIKE ME TO POINT OUT.
Altho it is TRUE, AND PROVABLE.

VERY INTERESTING stuff that's coming out now about the massive Target Credit Card Attack:

Haven't I been telling people to BEWARE of having their Info and Credit Card Numbers STOLEN - that there's HI-TECH stuff out there that can do it EASILY?!

"The malware involved something called "memory-scraping," Reuters reported. That means that the moment you swipe your card the malware grabbed your credit card info.
This POS malware seems to be a known variety, spotted as early as June, 2013, Krebs says. It looks like something called BlackPOS that sells on hacker forums for $1,800-$2,300.

Hackers can sell the credit card numbers for $35 - $100 each. Gold or platinum credit cards go for $60 each, business credit cards $80 and some platinum cards, $100, Cisco security researcher Levi Gundert wrote this week in a blog post. That's a stunning potential payback on a $2,300 piece of software.
