The Kermode or Spirit Bear (Ursus americanus kermodei) is a rare subspecies of the Black Bear. Estimates place the Spirit Bear population between 400 and 1000, although the general consenses would appear to be 400 or fewer.

Signed and noted. We are running out of time to save all of the animals that are endangered whether they are listed or not. If we cannot get pro conservation and wildlife officials elected, I am very concerned for our environment and the wildlife that depend on protected habitat.

while we do need to act on individual species that are at immediate risk, the main focus MUST be shifted to protection of enire ECOSYSTEMS - or nothing we do will accomplish anything lasting. our being able to say "well, we tried" will be little consolation to the lost.
