Dr. Michel Obeid of Lebanon discovers major cancer drug
Sunday, 18 March, 2007 @ 5:16 PM

Beirut & Paris - Lebanese Medical student Michel Obeid held a news conference at the National Council for Scientific Research in Beirut to talk about the medication he discovered few months back in France to treat cancer patients .

He said the medication works on activation of the immune system , so it detects cancerous cells and destroys them. The medication that he discovered was able to destroy about 90 % of the cancerous cells after a couple of weeks of treatment and the remaining 10% was nearly cancer free.

Under the title "We did not lose the war against cancer," Obeid explained his findings to a crowd of doctors and scientists .

He demonstrated how our immunity system plays a significant role in overcoming all diseases and how chemical drugs play a secondary role. Obeid explained that cancer cells have the capability of hiding away from the immunity system and this keeps the disease hidden in our body. So the solution, Obeid continued, does not lie in chemotherapy as practiced today in hospitals across the world, but in enabling our immunity system to play the greater role of detecting the tumor and eliminating it.

The research of his findings proved effective after carrying out tests on some 5000 mice he said.

Obeid said that the new treatment is a combination of a protein called Calreticulin a drug which he did not disclose for the time being. The new drug had no side effects on the tested mice nor did it cause any loss of weight.

Obeid also said he will soon start experimenting with human beings and as soon as he secures the needed funding and the registration of the patents .

It will be several years before the medication will be approved for treating human beings

About Obeid
Michel, 24 was born in Bkerzla in the Akkar region of northern Lebanon. 3 years ago he obtained a scholarship from the National Council for Scientific Research to complete his PhD in France at the Institute Gustave-Roussy (IGR), which is the leading European anticancer centre.

Michel dedicated his finding to all the Lebanese and expressed hope that his discovery would serve humanity. He certainly makes the Lebanese proud

I know this is old news but today I found on Care2 front page, in the Pulse Area, a question about "if there is going to be a cure for cancer in year 2008".
So I had to put an old news to show that person there they already have in year 2007. Well, at least they started to have one.

This is the poll's link: http://www.care2.com/polls/vote?pollID=319
In 2008, how likely is it that a cure for cancer will be found?
Poll Results: 1,173 votes

41% Not too likely.

34% Not at all likely.

16% Somewhat likely.

9% Very likely.

A big THANK YOU to you, Juliana for all the info. I didn't know about this discovery, and its future use. Wow!

Anytime you all. This man is a neighboor of mine back from our village in the north. I didn't know him but since he's been on TV, I see him all the time whenever I go to visit my family.
Maybe I used to see him but didn't pay attention much to him.
Now he lives in France most of the time. Can't believe he's still so young!!!

Perhaps this IS old news, Juliana,
but it's NEW news to me! Like Shane,
I had not heard about this, and it's
very happy news.
Here's more good news about cancer
that did not make the mainstream U.S.
media last year:
A European University stidy has discovered
a component in Marijuana smoke which STOPS
rhe growth of lung cancer cells: It does
not merely SLOW the growth, but STOPS it
completely. Imagine the day, maybe it's now,
when a person can treat and eliminate their
lung cancer by smoking Marijuana.

Thanks, Juliana!
noted.

Soyons prudents!

Maybe if stories like this had more continued exposure then funding would be a bit easier to contuinue this research.

In the US many patients travel to Mexico for Herbal and/or alternative treatments. Also many more doctors here in the US have begun to accept that cancer patients combine natural alternatives.

I think any treatments should be more personalized to the individuals chemistry, rather than text book one size fits all.
Thanks for keeping the story alive. We need awareness and I always worried and get mad thinking about where all of the donated money for research really goes too.
