Ohio couple who have returned their adopted son to the county after nine years now face charges of reckless abandonment by a prosecutor with little patience for the situation.

The parents, Cleveland and Lisa Cox, adopted the 9-year-old as an infant through Butler County Children Services; they brought him back there in October, citing issues of “aggressive behaviors” for which he had refused help, according to the Associated Press.

The Coxes could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted of the first-degree misdemeanor.
From The Associated Press Article... This is it!! 6 months in jail and $1000 fine??? This breaks my heart. I had an adopted child that felt like he was my own. As if I gave birth to him. He had many many issues but none of them deterred me. I loved him to death.... He just needed Love. That's my experience. This makes sick and shocks me. It says the Judge has little patience for the situation... I thought that meant he would really do something more than 6 months in Jail and a $1000 fine.

Believe me ,I went through a lot but I didn't care and He was a good boy.He was abused ,my adopted son and he was had many issues but filled with love and never was too hard to handle.Never!!
I know many horror stories when adopting and almost all can always be worked out. Once in a very great while maybe it really can't but I don't find that to be the "norm".

This will traumatize this poor child. 9 years old since a child and they gave him back. There is something wrong here and they need to be charged severely. This poor boy.

If this child did anything that bad ,it would be documented. To say he wouldn't get help is not good enough. Obviously if these parents can give him back after 9 years ,they did some pretty bad parenting.

All during the most important years of his life. There is a lot missing here. This does not even make sense to me.

John ,I hope you can get one of the links to work for you. Either one is is fine.

Noted thank you. If the child was returned he should not be sent back to this family they do not want him anyway. He would never have a normal life he would become a victim.

Peta, I agree!! They have done enough damage to a young child. My heart goes out to him.

Returning the child to the social services where is adoption was arranged from isn't reckless abandonment. Reckless abandonment would be leaving him in a park, in the street or somewhere alone.

Yes this couple have given up and abandoned this child BUT they haven't done so recklessly. Once again the terms used by laws and the media are being battered around with correct usage. No wonder our languages are changing at the fastest rate ever when people are actually changing and twisting terms to present a story/ event in certain ways.

Sounds like they shouldn't have ever had any children to begin with. Reminds me of the young teens and early twenties girls who have kids when they aren't married and aren't responsible for their self let alone a child then get on welfare and expect everyone else to take care of them so they can have a good time. The new ness wears off and they are not good parents. It is a shame.....children can't pick their parents.

G-d bless the little boy. I hope he becomes so successful that his ex-adoptive parents and siblings feel like Scrooges.

Nikki I understand the words may not be the most appropriate but this family has abused/negelected and severely damaged a child for 9 years of his early life. They need to be charged and not just a 6 month jail time w/$1000 fine. That's a joke. This is a child ,you don't give away a child like this. I don't see one word of anything mentioned that he was that dificult to deal with. They didn't like the way he may have been being abused or their rules. I don't know what really happened but if they can do this to their child ,they are not decent people/parents to begin with.

This will weigh heavy on this young boy for a long time. Trust is gone. A lot of issues he didn't have will now be there. He was thrown away . Wrong!!
There has to be something more to pucnish these people with. I thought the judge meant he would definitely show them they were wrong but it might mean he has no interest/patience for what he considers to be no big deal in his court room??!!/ The parents wont serve 6 months in jail. $1000 fine- they should be paying monthly child support at the least until he is 21 . At the very least....

Thanks to all who noted the article. I'm disgusted and I was shocked when I saw this.
