5,000 African black rhinos are now estimated to live in the wild, but that isn't stopping a Texas-based group from killing one of the endangered animals. the Dallas Safari Club auctioned off a permit to hunt a rhino in Namibia for a whopping $350,000

OMG, this makes me sick and sad. What are they doing?? This is an Endangered animal and their "BS" story of where the money goes is a bunch of crap. Who came up with that and it makes NO sense at all. This is an Endangered animal. ONLY 5000 left. BUT because people pay and the older Rhinos are NO good for breeding ,this is legal??!! I can't even believe what I am hearing. I can believe it . We hear it all but I still do even see how they managed to make sense and allow this legally. They are lying to themselves and the world!!! I'm disturbed by this and saddened. I can't believe I came across this.
"They've also noted that the older males being hunted under the permits tend to become aggressive and territorial, and are often culled by wildlife officials in an effort to protect younger rhinos. "
*Some of you may believe this to be the right decision but I really don't, this is so wrong. You don't kill to begin with and NO ONE even has the right. It's horrible!! They should be able to live out their own lives.

"Despite that caveat, and assurances from the hunting group that proceeds from the auction will go to conservation efforts, the event hasn't exactly been met with plaudits from animal advocacy groups like the Humane Society and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). "This auction is telling the world that an American will pay anything to kill their species," Jeffrey Flocken of the IFAW told the Associated Press of the event. "This is, in fact, making a spectacle of killing an endangered species." "

Big Rhinos, Small Hunters. What is lacking in their lives for them to want to be indiscriminate killers? It doesn't make them Big Men in people's eyes. Maybe just to other Bubba Burpwads like themselves.

I have a vision in my mind------with all the animals having the guns and looking for hunters. The above rhino hunt is one of the most barbaric and ignorant hunterisms I have ever heard of. We can pray they will see the light before they do this dire deed. Hopefully, all the ire over this will get to them . Noted/thanks

This is an Endangered animal so I was surprised.
I know people pay a high price to hide in a shack and kill an animal in plain sight. Sickening.

I don't know what they think they are doing here with there "BS" excuses. Everyone must know they are lies.

these people that hunt do not care one tiny bit about animals. For some reason it does give them a high and makes them feel like they are bigger than life. They are paying to kill . I don't want to live in a world with people like this.

The reasoning here absolutely makes NO sense.

These poor animals are older and can't just be left alone??!! Personally that's hits me hard. What did they do. They are allowed to be killed because they serve no purpose anymore. NO!! This is so wrong and I can't even help.

Gypsy thanks for noting along with everyone else . Your dream would be wonderful. Sadly I don't think it will happen but hold onto it!!!

Aren't Endangered animals suppose to be pretty much protected??
I'm sad....

This is a scary thing. How did the trophy hunters ever get the upper hand? How is it that those who are destructive to the earth and everything in it become the norm and all those opposed to death and destruction become the the whack jobs? These people don't own the animals, they shouldn't be the only ones with the say so, in fact, they shouldn't have any say so. I find this especially heinous since the rhino is so close to completely disappearing from life. Not long ago, the West African Black Rhino was declared extinct, are already going to make another species go the same way? I can't believe the BS they are trying to sell.

Hunters are a very sick breed. They have so many excuses for murdering defenseless animals, but the real reason is very simple, they are serial killers at heart and just love to kill. Very sick that such a act should be allowed to happen. But, hey it is happening in Texas, so why should I be surprised.

Hopefully the "winner" will prove to be a big person and just take a picture of the rhino. Although it said on the news this old bull rhino was killing other rhinos which is why they want him removed. Sigh.
Sigh again.

These low-lifes said they would raise $1 million for rhino research; big difference between $350,000 and $1 million. I hope the permit is denied.

Making excuses for- murdering this endangered black rhino is -pathetic -just another -trophy on the wall for this ego maniac -the great white hunter -there will be no -contest -the rhino doesn't stand a chance against a telescopic rifle -this poor excuse for a human being is not admired for his -bravery?he is denigrated for his -cowardice -his lack of compassion and the loss of his humanity for -ego,the fish and wild life organisation sanctioned this act of depravity to the animals -the very ones that are supposed to protect the wild life -sold them out -they no longer have my support .

If the winner of the lottery shoots the rhino may he have 350,000 days of bad luck. And my he live 359 years to receive all of the bad luck.

Endless stupidity and greed or as a TV report somewhere mentioned that the Black Rhino is worth more dead than alive. Sad, since this is an endangered species and the Black Rhino when alive is really: Priceless.
Leave them alone. Hunt them with a camera only. Put a three D silicone head mount made of artificial material up on the wall as a 'trophy' but leave the live animal alone, the rhino itself is endangered.

Why don't these asses just donate all that money they so freely put up to kill a rhino. Then they'd be doing something worthwhile instead of killing for the thrill.

This is disgusting beyond belief! If they really wanted to help the Black Rhino, they would have had an auction of the rights to go help the Rhino Recovery! And then donated ALL the proceeds to the African Endangered Species instead of making it a hunt. They could have done SO MANY OTHER THINGS, but, nooooo! They gotta go KILL something to make them look like the Great White Hunter!
Its like a contest to see who has the biggest "gun"!
