This is why I read ALL food labels. I avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup at all costs. Also hydrogenated oils. It just is not safe to eat commercially made food. Big Business does not care what health issues their products cause. It's all about making money.

@Robert B.: D'ACCORD I do the same: *any* (half-)synthetic item is a reason for me to boycott ana (pseudo)-food-(mixture)
And: industry producing their sickening junk stuff ... is one part of the problem
idiotic consumerists [which I cannot avoid observing every single time I buy my food] throwing money away for that junk is the other part; said industry couldn't exist without them...

Best is to avoid eating any and all foods containing high fructose corn syrup.
Read all labels including those you think are your favorites that do not contain
high fructose corn syrup. One of my cereals I thought did not contain corn syrup
actually does have corn syrup in it. A shock.
Kellogg's cereals are one to avoid these days as it contains, gasp, GMO's...!

Thx Suzy... I gave up soda's literally a couple decades ago, about the time Coke quit putting real sugar in their drink, and don't miss it a bit. I must have sugar in my tea though but try to stay away from pre-made tea with corn syrup... I have read other articles that say it is bad for you.
This is the trend we are seeing form all the processed foods we eat, and believe that is a big reason we are seeing so many health issues especially in urban areas where so much is consumed on a regular basis. Cost savings is killing us. I also believe we should take many lessons learned from herbal and dietary health research and apply it our health-care reforms as we are becoming addicted to our prescription drugs as well. Most of them have unintended side-effects that have yet to realize their full impact on our health.

noted -- great article on how high-fructose corn syrup can mess us up mentally as well as physically -- i try to avoid this nasty stuff -- i don't put any sugar in anything!

Read everything!!!I don't use sugar much, not even in my tea anymore and I make as much from scratch with whole ingredients as possible and I still read labels on the things I can't make from scratch. I try to buy as much organic as I can financially manage. I grow the rest from heirloom seeds. It pays to read what is in your food. They ARE trying to dumb us down and/or kill us slowly and forcing us to go on killer pharma-drugs while we die. I HATE Agribusiness/chemical fascists like Monsanto-Dow and CONAgra....there I said the H word. It is one thing I truly do hate. Whatta oxymoron there....CON (against) Agra (agriculture) DUH!!!!

Wonderful article. This is one of the reasons that some elements of the Occupy movement say "we do not forgive". The corporations who are poisoning us know what they are doing but profit is their only interest.

Watch you sugar intake!
If highly-refined sugars had to go through rigorous testing by the FDA, like newly developed products, they would never be approved for use in humans, as they are associated with far too many health risks: obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, tooth decay/gingivitis, etc.

I comment on this same subject yesterday, and how mad i am that the network channels are running an add sponsored by the industry trying to sell this crap to us with the end of the commercial saying what great stuff it is, and gently assuring us that "... our bodies don't know the difference" (between sugar and HFCS).
Yeah, right. A bullet in your hand is no different than a bullet that's chambered, but one can kill you alot quicker, and they're both deadly. Thanks Suzy

Our LIVER knows the difference. It treats high-fructose in exactly the same way it does alcohol. That is why people are getting fatty liver disease (steatosis) from ingesting too much of the stuff regularly.

Thanks a lot Suzy ;), I already heard about that and I'm paying more attention now... but I didn't notice any difference where my brain is concerned *lol* But I'm sure it's a lot healthier to consume as less sugar as possible ;)
